Before You Begin

This cleaner is intended for domestic household cleaning only, removing DRY dirt and dust from carpets, flooring, walls, and fabrics. It is not suitable for industrial use, as this will void the manufacturer's warranty.

Important: Always switch off and unplug the cleaner before cleaning, maintenance, or when not in use. Ensure the cleaner is connected only to an AC supply matching the rating plate voltage. Use only for its intended purpose.

Precautionary Measures:

  1. ? Do not operate the vacuum cleaner too close to heaters, radiators, or other hot surfaces.
  2. ? Before inserting the plug into the wall, ensure your hand is dry.
  3. ⚠️ Before vacuuming, remove any large or sharp objects from the floor or cleaning surface to prevent filter damage.
  4. ? When unplugging, pull the plug itself, not the power cable.
  5. ? If the hose inlet, floor tool, or telescopic tube becomes blocked, switch off immediately, disconnect from mains power, and clear the obstruction before restarting.

Safety Precautions & Warnings

IMPORTANT: Always switch off and unplug the cleaner before any maintenance. Use only with filters installed. Never operate without filters.

  1. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised by a responsible person.
  2. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  3. Do not immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or other liquids to prevent electrical shock.
  4. Do not use the vacuum cleaner outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  5. Always check the power cord and plug for damage before use. If damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent, or qualified persons.
  6. Do not unplug by pulling the power cord; grasp the plug. Use only approved extension cords.
  7. Do not pull or carry the appliance by the power cable. Avoid running the appliance over the power cable or pulling it around sharp edges.
  8. Ensure the appliance is switched off before unplugging.
  9. Do not handle or operate the appliance with wet hands. Follow all electrical safety precautions.
  10. Exercise extreme caution when using the appliance on stairs.
  11. Switch off and unplug before changing attachments. Use only manufacturer's recommended accessories.
  12. Do not operate the vacuum cleaner too close to heaters, radiators, or hot surfaces.
  13. Do not use the appliance to pick up flammable items or combustible liquids (e.g., petrol, hot ashes, cigarettes, matches, explosive materials).
  14. Do not use the appliance to pick up toxic materials (e.g., chlorine bleach, ammonia).
  15. Ensure the appliance is disconnected from the mains power supply before connecting the hose.
  16. Do not operate or use the appliance without the dust bag and/or filters in place.
  17. Before vacuuming, remove large or sharp objects from the floor to prevent filter damage.
  18. If the hose inlet, floor head, or telescopic tube is blocked, switch off immediately, disconnect from mains power, and clear the obstruction.
  19. Hold the plug when rewinding the cord. Do not allow the plug to whip.
  20. Do not extend the power cable beyond the yellow mark.
  21. Do not leave the appliance unattended when connected to a mains power supply.
  22. Before any maintenance or cleaning, switch off and disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the power supply.
  23. Keep hose ends, telescopic tube, and other openings away from your face and body.
  24. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it is damaged or breaks down. Check electrical components regularly.
  25. Never clean the vacuum cleaner or electrical parts with water or liquid cleaners.
  26. Never attempt electrical modifications to the vacuum cleaner.
  27. Always store the appliance indoors in a cool and dry place.
  28. This appliance is for dry household use only; do not pick up water.
  29. Damage caused by improper use or failure to observe instructions will void the warranty.

Instructions for Use

WARNING: Always remove the plug from the power socket before fitting or removing accessories.

Assembling the Vacuum Cleaner:

  1. Insert the hose end into the hose inlet until it clicks into position.
  2. Insert the telescopic tube into the combination floor tool.
  3. Fit the other end of the telescopic tube to the handle.
  4. To rewind the power cable, press the cable rewind button with one hand and guide the cable with the other hand to prevent whipping. Never extend the power cord beyond the yellow mark.
  5. Press the On/Off button to switch the vacuum on.
  6. Rotate the speed control dial to adjust the suction power.

Maintenance

WARNING: Ensure the cleaner is disconnected from the mains power supply when performing any maintenance duties. Always operate with the dust bag installed and filters in place.

Changing the Dust Bag:

  1. Replace the dust bag when the blockage indicator turns red or suction is low. Check the air channel for blockages.
  2. Open the front cover. Pull the dust bag holder upwards to remove the dust bag.
  3. Replace the paper bag when it is full of dirt with a new one.
  4. Push the bag holder back and close the cover by pressing down until it is locked.

Cleaning and Changing the Filters:

Cleaning or Changing the HEPA Filter:

  1. Pull the dust bag and filter supporter upward and remove the filter.
  2. Rinse the filter in lukewarm water and dry it completely before refitting.
  3. Place the filter back into the appliance.

Replacing the Exhaust Air Filter:

  1. Open the front cover and remove the dust bag.
  2. Firmly grip the HEPA filter tab and pull it out. Replace with a new filter, re-insert the dust bag, and close the front cover.

Troubleshooting

Problems and Solutions:

Fault Cause Solution
Motor does not start or stops. No power supply. Check cable, plug, and socket. If still inoperative, contact a service agent.
Suction force gradually decreases. Filters are dirty, suction hose or telescopic tube is blocked. Clean or replace filters. Remove objects from hose and telescopic tube.

Conditions of Warranty

Your Hoover Smart vacuum cleaner, for domestic use, comes with a one-year warranty against product defects and failures, provided it is used according to the terms and conditions outlined in this statement.

This warranty is provided by Electrical Home-Aids Pty Limited (ABN 62 007 539 577). The warranty commences from the original purchase date and is non-transferable. Proof of purchase is required for all claims. This warranty is valid only in the country of purchase.

The Hoover Smart must be operated according to these instructions and used solely for domestic household cleaning. It is not designed for industrial use or for collecting materials like vitreous building material, particle board, construction products, wood/fibres, cement, fillers, fibre glass, or excessive sand, as this may cause damage and void the warranty.

Accessories and consumables (dust bags, filters) are not covered unless defective in manufacture. Regular care and maintenance are recommended to prolong their life.

Misuse or failure to follow instructions in this manual will void the warranty.

Electrical Home-Aids Pty. Limited is not responsible for repairs not carried out by an authorised service agent or for defects arising from the use of non-genuine parts. Replacement parts will be genuine functional parts if original parts are unavailable. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, alterations, improper installation, physical abuse, misuse, or accidental damage.

Work carried out without proof of purchase will be at the claimant's cost. Warranty repairs or replacements do not extend the original warranty period.

The benefits of this warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies under Australian consumer law, including rights to replacement, refund, or compensation for major failures or loss.
