Setup Guide
Step 1: Initial Setup
Connect the base station to the power adapter. Open the battery compartment and insert three 1.5V AA batteries (polarity correct). The batteries serve as backup power. Press and hold the GATEWAY button on the base station for three seconds to enter Access Point mode. The GATEWAY button is located inside the battery compartment.
Step 2: Connect to Station's WiFi
On your smartphone or tablet, disable mobile data. Open WiFi settings and connect to the station's network, identified by "TFA-ME-ID-XXX-XXX-XXX". You may see a message indicating no internet connection; this is normal and can be ignored for now.
Step 3: Configure WiFi Connection
Open a web browser on your connected device and go to me.local
(or IP address 192.168.8.1
). Select your home WiFi network, enter the password, and confirm. A confirmation beep and a static WiFi symbol on the station indicate a successful connection.
Step 4: Set Location via TFA.me Portal
Open go.tfa.me
in any browser. Select "Set Location" and follow the on-screen instructions to determine your location. This allows the station to receive the correct local time and weather forecasts. Registration is optional for basic use but required for online data access.
Step 5: Power Up the Transmitter (Manually)
Open the transmitter's battery compartment and insert two 1.5V AA batteries (polarity correct). All LCD segments will briefly light up, followed by version information.
Step 6: Pairing Transmitter with Base Station
On the base station, press the CHANNEL button to select a channel (1-5). Press and hold the CHANNEL button for three seconds to start a manual transmitter search; the reception symbol will flash. Briefly press the TX button inside the transmitter's battery compartment. The measured values will be transmitted. The transmitter has a unique ID number, usually found on a sticker in the battery compartment.
Additional Outdoor Transmitters:
To display multiple transmitters (up to 5), insert batteries into each transmitter and restart the base station or initiate a manual search. The station will automatically assign channels. Use the CHANNEL button to cycle through the connected transmitters.
Note on Transmitter Placement:
Place the transmitter in the desired location. For outdoor use, choose a shady, rain-protected spot. Direct sunlight can falsify readings, and constant moisture can damage electronic components.
