Land Rover Parking Assist Systems
This guide provides information on Land Rover's parking assist systems, designed to help drivers maneuver in tight spaces. These systems display obstacles around the vehicle on the touchscreen, providing visual and audible alerts.
Parking Aid System Operation
The parking aid system utilizes sensors to detect obstacles. The system is active when the vehicle is in motion at low speeds. The range of the sensors extends up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) for front, side, and outer rear sensors, and 1.8 meters (6 feet) for inner rear sensors.
When reverse gear (R) is engaged, front, rear, and side sensors become active. The system remains active until the vehicle speed exceeds 16 km/h (10 mph). If the gear selector is moved from Park (P) to Drive (D), the parking aid systems activate if the parking aid button is pressed and the vehicle speed is below 10 km/h (6 mph). Front and side sensors remain active up to 16 km/h (10 mph).
The parking aid system can be set to activate automatically when the vehicle speed drops below 10 km/h (6 mph) or when reverse gear (R) is engaged. A button with an indicator light activates the system. Pressing the button deactivates the system.
When an object is detected, the system emits an audible warning that increases in frequency as the vehicle approaches the object. The warning becomes continuous when the distance to the object is 300 mm (12 inches).
Note: If the parking aid system does not detect any objects, no information will be displayed on the touchscreen. Ensure sensors are kept clean for optimal performance.
System Malfunctions
If a system malfunction is detected, a long, high-pitched tone will sound, the switch indicator will flash, and a message such as "Parking Aid is not available. Please consult your dealer" will appear on the touchscreen. Contact your dealer or an authorized workshop.
Rear View Camera
The rear view camera is located on the tailgate. When reverse gear (R) is engaged, a panoramic view of the area behind the vehicle is displayed on the touchscreen. The display includes guide lines and active sensor indicators.
Note: The driver is responsible for judging distances and detecting obstacles when reversing. The camera may not detect low-hanging objects that could damage the vehicle.
If the vehicle is equipped with a rear view camera, its display takes priority over the parking aid system display.
The camera display can be turned off by pressing the Home Menu button or the back soft-key.
Guide Lines:
- 1. Broken guide line: Indicates safe clearance width, including exterior mirrors.
- 2. Solid guide line: Shows the calculated trajectory based on the current steering wheel position.
- 3. Parking Distance Control (PDC) graphics: Colored zones indicate the active rear parking sensor zones.
- 4. Tailgate access line: Do not cross this line if tailgate access is required.
For vehicles with a rear view camera, settings can be accessed by touching and holding anywhere on the touchscreen. Options include toggling guide lines (Park Assist guidance, PDC graphics, Hitch guidance) and activating Auto-towball zoom.
Auto-towball zoom: When the vehicle approaches a tow hitch within 600 mm (24 inches), the image automatically zooms in.
The rear view camera screen closes if reverse gear is engaged for more than 5 seconds, or if forward gear is selected and the vehicle speed exceeds 18 km/h (11 mph).
Detection of Moving Vehicles When Reversing (RTD)
The Reverse Traffic Detection (RTD) system assists the driver by detecting moving vehicles approaching from the sides when reversing. An amber warning light in the side mirrors and an audible alert indicate a detected vehicle. A warning message may also appear on the touchscreen.
Note: RTD automatically deactivates when a trailer is connected or when the Park Assist system is active. RTD does not replace the need for the driver to remain vigilant and use mirrors.
System Indicators:
- 1. Amber warning light: Indicates a detected vehicle.
- 2. Rear view camera display: Shows the detected vehicle's position.
- 3. Parking aid system display: May also show warnings.
- 4. Amber indicator lights in mirrors: Illuminate when RTD is switched off.
The RTD system can be switched on/off via the instrument cluster menu.
Sensor Blockage: If any sensors are partially or fully blocked (e.g., by ice, snow, dirt), RTD will automatically switch off. A "Reverse Traffic Sensor Blocked" message will appear. Ensure the rear bumper sensors are clear of obstructions.
System Not Available: If a radar sensor malfunction is detected, an amber warning light will illuminate, and a "Reverse Traffic Detection System Not Available" message will appear. The system may function correctly after the engine is switched off and then on again if the malfunction is temporary. Contact your dealer or an authorized workshop for persistent issues.
