Vertical Blinds

Fitting the brackets

There are two types of brackets for vertical blinds, each offering a different installation method:

Top-Fixing

Use the single hole in the top of the bracket to fix to the lintel (the 'ceiling' of the recess).

Diagram Description: A vertical blind bracket designed for top-fixing is shown, with a single mounting hole located at its top, intended for attachment to a ceiling or lintel.

Face-Fixing

Use two screws through the back plate to mount onto a facing surface (a wall or window frame).

Diagram Description: A vertical blind bracket designed for face-fixing is shown, with a back plate featuring two screw holes, intended for mounting onto a wall or window frame.

Important Spacing:

The outermost brackets should be positioned at least 5cm away from the ends of the rail. Any other brackets should be evenly distributed across the width of the rail.

Diagram Description: A horizontal line representing the blind rail, with markings indicating a 5cm distance from each end where the outermost brackets should be placed.

If using top-fix brackets, ensure they are mounted at least 7.5cm in front of the window frame, or any protruding vents or handles. This clearance allows the louvres to turn open and closed.

Fitting the blind

Top-Fixing

1. Situate the front lip of the headrail into the front of the bracket.

2. Lift the back of the headrail and push up firmly to secure the back of the rail into the bracket.

Diagram Description: A step-by-step visual showing the process of attaching the headrail to a top-fix bracket: first, the front lip of the headrail is inserted into the bracket's front slot, followed by lifting the back of the headrail to securely clip it into the bracket.

Face-Fixing

1. Situate the back lip of the headrail into the back hook of the bracket.

2. Lift the front of the headrail so it is level, then tighten the screw in the front of the bracket to secure the rail in place.

Diagram Description: A step-by-step visual showing the process of attaching the headrail to a face-fix bracket: first, the back lip of the headrail is hooked into the bracket's rear hook, then the front of the headrail is lifted to be level, and finally, a screw is tightened in the front of the bracket to secure it.

Hanging the louvres

? Top Tip: Before hooking the louvres onto the rail, use the control wand to turn the hooks so that they all face side-on. This makes it far quicker to hook the louvres on and also ensures that the louvres will not clash when you first use the blind.

Diagram Description: A close-up of the headrail hooks. A control wand is depicted being used to rotate these hooks so they are all aligned in a side-on position, facilitating easier louvre attachment.

Hook the louvres onto the rail.

Diagram Description: Individual vertical blind louvres are shown being attached to the hooks on the headrail.

Hook the control wand onto the eyelet at the end of the hooks.

Note that the control wand will be located according to which side you chose to 'stack' the blind on. Most blinds will have a single wand, but wider blinds provided with two headrails will comprise of one left-stack blind and one right-stack blind, so there will be two wands in the centre.

Stacking Options:

  • Left stack
  • Split stack
  • Right stack

Diagram Description: Three diagrams illustrate different ways vertical blinds can stack: 'Left stack' shows louvres accumulating on the left side; 'Split stack' shows louvres dividing from the centre; and 'Right stack' shows louvres accumulating on the right side.

Slide the weight into the pocket at the bottom of the louvre.

Diagram Description: The bottom edge of a vertical blind louvre, which has a fabric pocket, is shown with a plastic weight being slid into this pocket.

Clip the stabilising chain onto the weights. One chain will run along the back and the second will run along the front. Any excess clips can be cut away; just snip the cord flush to the last clip attached to a weight.

Diagram Description: The bottom of two adjacent louvres are shown connected by a stabilising chain. The chain is depicted clipped to the weights, with one segment running behind the louvres and another in front. An indicator suggests trimming any excess chain length.
