DOWNLOAD APP

  1. Android: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app on Google Play.
  2. iPhone: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from the App Store.

REGISTRATION AND LOGIN

  1. Run the “Brookstone Smart" app from your smartphone.
  2. Register and login.

The app's initial screen shows options to "Register" or "Log in with existing account". After logging in, the home screen displays weather information (temperature, humidity, air pressure) and categories like "All devices", "Living Room", "Bedroom". A large plus (+) symbol within a house icon indicates where to add a new device.

ADD DEVICE

  1. Screw the Smart Edison Bulb into a light socket until the light turns on. Then unscrew until the light turns off. Repeat this process 5-6 times until the light bulb begins to blink rapidly.
  2. Ensure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network and that it is a 2.4GHz network.
  3. Press the plus (+) symbol in the top right corner of the app and select the "Smart Bulb" option from the list of device types. The "Smart Bulb" icon resembles a light bulb.
  4. Confirm the Smart Edison Bulb is blinking and press the "confirm indicator rapidly blinks" button in the app. The app screen shows a circular indicator with a blinking light icon.
  5. Ensure your phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network that the device will connect to. Enter your password for the Wi-Fi network.
  6. The connecting process will begin. Do not unscrew the Smart Edison Bulb or turn off your phone while connecting. Wait for the connection process to complete. A progress circle shows the connection percentage.
  7. Once the device has been successfully added, name the device as desired within the app. The Smart Edison Bulb is then ready for use. The app screen confirms "Device added successfully" and allows naming the bulb and assigning it to rooms like "Living Room", "Bedroom", "Dining Room", "Kitchen", "Study Room".

CONTROLLING THE DEVICE

There are three main features of the bulb: On/Off, brightness, and setting a schedule. These features are accessible at the bottom of the app screen when the bulb is selected.

The app screen for controlling the bulb shows a large light bulb icon with a brightness slider, indicating "Brightness: 100%". Below it are three control buttons: one for brightness adjustment (left), one for on/off (center), and one for scheduling (right).

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS

  1. You can turn on/off notifications for all devices connected to the app by clicking on the “Me” button at the bottom right of the screen. The "Me" button is represented by a person icon.
  2. Then click on the "Settings" button. From there, you can toggle push notifications on or off. The settings screen includes options for "Sound", "Push Notification", "About", "Clear Cache", and "Log out".

REMOVE A DEVICE

  1. From the home screen, click on the device you would like to remove.
  2. Then click on the edit symbol (pencil icon) on the top right of the screen.
  3. From there, click the "Remove Device" button at the bottom of the screen.

The device details screen shows options like "Check Device Network", "Supported Third-party Control" (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant), "Share Device", "Create Group", "Device Information", "Feedback", "Add to Home Screen", "Check for Firmware Update", and finally "Remove Device" and "Restore Factory Setting".

How to control the Smart Bulb with Amazon Alexa

Ensure your Alexa app is connected to your Amazon Echo and both work successfully on your Wi-Fi home network.

  1. Step A: Log into your Alexa app, tap the top left corner (menu icon), and then tap "Skills". The Alexa app home screen displays daily information like date, weather, and a list of options including "Add Device", "Lists", "Reminders & Alarms", "Contacts", "Routines", and "Things to Try" which contains "Skills & Games".
  2. Step B: Type "Brookstone Smart" in the search results, find the "Brookstone Smart" app, and tap the "enable" button. The search results show "Brookstone Smart" by Tuya Inc. with a rating.
  3. Step C: Enter your account info for the "Brookstone Smart" app, tap "Link Now", then tap "Authorize" on the next page to link your Brookstone Smart account to Alexa. The linking screen prompts for email/phone and password, then asks for authorization to receive public profile and control devices.
  4. Step D: Once your Brookstone Smart account is successfully linked to Alexa, the next page will pop up. Tap "Done" on the top left corner, then tap "Discover Devices" on the next page. The app confirms "1 device discovered" and prompts to "Choose which device you'd like to set up first" or "Set Up Device" for the "smart bulb".
  5. Step E: Wait a few seconds for Alexa to detect the Smart Edison Bulb from the Brookstone Smart app. The device named "Smart Bulb" will be paired to the Alexa app from the "Brookstone Smart" app. When you click on a device, you can then name it as you choose. The Alexa app's device control screen shows the bulb's on/off state and brightness percentage.
  6. Step F: You are now able to control the Smart Edison Bulb via Amazon Alexa.

Note: The device name is the one you give to the smart plug on the "Brookstone Smart" app. For example, if you name it "Living Room", you can say:

How to control the Smart Bulb with Google Assistant

  1. Pair the Smart Bulb with the Brookstone Smart App and name it with an easily recognizable name.
  2. Download the Google Home App and register and log in with your Google account info.

The bulb is compatible with Hey Google voice assistant.

  1. Step A: Once you are logged into your Google Home App, you should see buttons at the top to connect your Brookstone Smart account to the Google Home App. The Google Home app's home screen shows a "Connect Brookstone Smart" button.
  2. Step B: Tap the "Brookstone Smart" button to link your account with the Google Assistant.
  3. Step C: Enter your account info for the "Brookstone Smart" app, tap “Link now", then tap "Authorize” on the next page to link your Brookstone Smart account to the Google Assistant. This process is similar to the Alexa linking, requiring login credentials and authorization.
  4. Step D: You will find that the Google Assistant has found the device named "Smart Bulb" on this page. Scroll down on the home page to see the devices linked to you. You can now control the device through the Google Home App. The Google Home app's home screen shows connected devices, including "Smart Bulb" under a "Front Porch" section, with on/off toggles. The Smart Bulb control screen shows a large power button and brightness percentage.
  5. Step E: You are also able to control the Smart Bulb with Google Assistant.
