Tamagotchi Instructions
Congratulations! You are now the caretaker for a genuine Tamagotchi. Tamagotchi is a cyber creature who has traveled millions of miles from its home planet to learn what life is like on Earth. Let me explain how to care for your Tamagotchi.
Getting Started
To set the time, first press the middle button (B) to bring up the timer screen. Use the left button (A) to set the hours and the B button to set the minutes. Once you have set the correct time, press the right button (C) to set the timer. Next, return to the main screen by pressing the B button again. When you have completed these steps, a pulsating egg will appear. Your Tamagotchi will hatch in about 5 minutes. During this time, only the timer and reset functions are available.
NOTE: Remember not to press the reset switch too hard when using a sharp rod, pencils, sharp pens, etc.
As soon as your Tamagotchi hatches, it will beep for attention. The health meter will help you determine its mood, health, and behavior.
Core Care Functions
- FEED:
- Press the A button until the knife and fork icon is highlighted, then press B. Select either Meal or Snack by pressing the A button to move the arrow, then press the B button to feed. Be careful not to overfeed your Tamagotchi, or it will refuse to eat.
- PLAY:
- Press A button until the bat and ball icon is highlighted, then press B to begin the game. Guess which way your Tamagotchi will turn. Press A for left, B for right. Correct guesses make your Tamagotchi happy. There are 5 chances per game. Press C to stop playing. Check the happiness meter afterward.
- LIGHT:
- Press A button until the light bulb icon is highlighted, then press B. Select On or Off by pressing A to move the arrow, then press B. The light should be off when Tamagotchi is sleeping to prevent restlessness. It will automatically turn on when it wakes up.
- DUCK (Bathroom):
- If droppings appear, clean them up immediately to prevent your Tamagotchi from getting sick. Press A until the duck icon is highlighted, then press B to clean the screen. Your Tamagotchi will be happy when the mess is cleaned up.
- MEDICINE:
- If a "skull" image appears, your Tamagotchi is sick and needs medicine. Press A until the medicine icon is highlighted, then press B. Sometimes 2 or 3 injections are needed.
- ATTENTION:
- When this icon is highlighted, your Tamagotchi needs something. Check the Health Meter to determine its needs. If it doesn't need anything, it may require discipline.
- DISCIPLINE:
- Discipline your Tamagotchi if it beeps when full and happy, won't eat when hungry, or won't play when not very happy. Neglecting discipline may result in an unattractive, ill-mannered alien.
Status Checks
HEALTH METER: Press A until the Health Meter icon is highlighted, then press B to check age/weight, discipline, hunger, and happiness. Press C to return to the main screen. Check this screen if your Tamagotchi beeps and the "attention" icon is highlighted.
HAPPINESS AND HUNGER STATUS CHECK: There are 4 hearts for "Happy" and "Hunger." More filled hearts mean a more satisfied Tamagotchi. Feed and play with your Tamagotchi to fill these hearts.
DISCIPLINE STATUS CHECK: The meter moving right indicates a well-behaved Tamagotchi. Scold when necessary to increase the discipline meter.
AGE AND WEIGHT CHECK: Converts and displays growth information in Earth units.
Biology and Growth
One Earth day equals about one year for your Tamagotchi. It will change appearance several times before reaching its adult form. Its shape, personality, and lifespan depend on your care. Each new Tamagotchi can grow into one of several adult forms.
Your Tamagotchi will always return to its home planet. How well you care for it determines how long it stays on Earth. When it's time for it to leave, there's nothing you can do, but you can always hatch another egg.
