Installing Ebeco Quick Board

Total build-up height for snow melting system including Quick Board is approx. 7 cm. The preparation steps for the surface are the same for any standard surface coating without a snow melting system. Comply with current industry regulations.

Step 1: Excavation

Dig out the ground if it has not been drained. The hole must be 10 cm larger than the insulation sheet (X) on each side for additional working space. The exact depth depends on local ground conditions. We recommend asking for advice where you purchase the paving stones. The excavation area should be approximately 40-50 cm deep.

[Diagram Description: Shows an excavation area for the snow melting system. It indicates an excavation depth of approximately 40-50 cm and an area that is X + 20 cm larger than the insulation board on each side. A shovel is shown in the excavation.]

Step 2: Preparing the Base Layers

Lay the fibre cloth (A) under the drainage material. Fill with the draining support layer (B). To get the correct height, base it on the final surface level after compaction. Discount the thickness of the surface material (G), the insulation sheet (D), the heating cable/mat (F) and the layer of sand between them (E). Fill with support material up to this level. Compact the bed. Fill then with sand or crushed stone (C) to adjust the height. Compact to an even, hard surface, preferably with a ground compactor.

[Diagram Description: Shows a cross-section of the layers: A (Fibre cloth), B (Draining support layer), C (Sand/crushed stone), D (Insulation sheet, 3 cm), E (Sand layer, 2 cm), F (Heating cable/mat), G (Surface material). The diagram illustrates calculating the required height by subtracting the thickness of layers D, E, and F from the final surface level G.]

Step 3: Placing Insulation Sheets

Make sure that the insulation sheets (D) are fully in contact with the substrate and do not sag. Fill the space around the sides of the sheets with sand so that they lie still.

[Diagram Description: Shows placing insulation sheets (D) and filling the surrounding space with sand to keep them stable.]

Step 4: Securing Sheets

Place timbers (approx. 22 x 95 mm) on the sheets to keep them in place.

[Diagram Description: Shows placing timbers on top of the insulation sheets to hold them in place.]

Step 5: Sand Layer for Heat Distribution

[warning] To spread the heat there must be at least a 2 cm deep layer of sand (E) between the insulation sheet and the heating cable/mat. If they are in direct contact, the sheets may melt and destroy the cable.

[Diagram Description: Illustrates the importance of the sand layer for heat distribution.]

Step 6: Leveling the Sand

Level out the sand.

[Diagram Description: Shows leveling the sand layer.]

Step 7: Installing Heating Cable/Mat

When the entire surface is covered with sand, the heating cable/mat can be installed. Follow the installation instructions that are supplied with the product.
