Ebeco Thermoflex Underfloor Heating System
Installation Guide, Specifications, and Warranty
This document provides comprehensive information for the installation, use, and maintenance of Ebeco Thermoflex underfloor heating systems, including models Thermoflex Kit 200/500 and Thermoflex 45/60/120/160.
Welcome
Thank you for choosing Ebeco. We hope you will be happy with your underfloor heating system for many years to come. For the guarantee to apply, the product must be installed and used as described in this manual. It is therefore important that you read the manual.
If you have any questions, please contact Ebeco. Call +46 31 707 75 50 or send an email to info@ebeco.se. More information is available at ebeco.com.
Important Safety Information ⚠️
- The underfloor heating system is a high voltage system and must be installed according to applicable regulations by an authorised electrician.
- For the guarantee to apply, the guarantee certificate must be correctly and completely filled in, and signed by an authorised electrician.
- May only be installed indoors.
- The heating cable must not be cut. Furthermore, it may neither be crossed nor installed with spacing of less than 5 cm.
- The connection cable may be cut.
- The thermostat's sensor cable may be cut.
- The cable must be measured for resistance and insulation as per the instructions. Document the values in the Garantera Ebeco web app or in the guarantee certificate.
- Either a diagram or photo of the cable routing must be documented.
- The sign "Heating Cable Installed" must be posted at the main junction box.
- Heating must be regulated with Ebeco's EB-Therm thermostats.
- The system must be connected to 230 V via a 30-mA earth fault circuit breaker.
- The heating cable must not be run under stationary furnishings, such as kitchen counters, closets, inner walls, etc., as this produces elevated temperatures.
- In wet rooms, the heating cable must be run under a sealing layer.
- Wait 4 weeks after applying screed before turning on the heat to allow the screed to dry properly.
- In rooms with wooden floors, the Room and floor thermostat function must always be used.
- The maximum permissible heat resistance of the floor material is 0.16 m² K/W.
Installation Guide
Subflooring
The heating cable is laid on floor constructions of concrete, plaster, or chipboard and must then be screeded with a suitable levelling compound. Wooden and chipboard floors over joists spaced at more than 30 cm need to be strengthened to prevent cracks and tile detachment. Use Ebeco Thermo Board (see Energy Saving Tips and product's installation instructions). For uninsulated concrete floors against the ground, additional insulation is recommended, and the heating should not be switched off completely during summer to counteract moisture rising.
Flooring Materials
Thermoflex can be installed under tiles, natural stone, wood, laminate, and linoleum floors. When screeding, the heating cable must be laid in a minimum screed layer as follows:
- Tile/natural stone floor: 5 mm
- Wood/laminate flooring: 10 mm
- Linoleum: 15 mm
Refer to applicable industry regulations for detailed instructions on floor construction, screeding, sealing, tiling, and jointing.
Recommendations and Maximum Output
The room's heat requirement depends on its insulation level, air circulation, and outdoor temperature.
Heating Cable (for screed) | Recommended Output | Floor Material | Regulation | Subflooring |
---|---|---|---|---|
45-160 W/m² | Tile/natural stone: Max 160 W/m² | Room/Floor | Concrete: Max 160 W/m² | |
Wood/laminate/linoleum: Max 75 W/m² | Room + Floor | Combustible: Max 120 W/m² |
Industry guidelines for wood/laminate and linoleum on underfloor heating:
- General conditions: Maximum permissible surface temperature is 27°C, including under carpets and furniture.
- Coverage: Covering wood/laminate/linoleum floors laid on underfloor heating risks overtemperature in the floor or the room temperature becoming too low. Coverings include carpets, beds without ventilated bases, bookshelves with fully-covering bottoms, kitchen cabinets, etc.
Positioning of Sensor Cable and Connection Cable
1. The Thermoflex Kit includes a flexible conduit with a sealed end. Insert the thermostat's sensor cable into this conduit.
2. The underfloor heating cable has a 2.5-meter connection cable. This should be laid in a plastic pipe designed for electrical material (not included). For supplementary kits, both cold cables should be pulled up and connected in parallel at the thermostat.
3. Place the flexible conduit and pipe alongside each other in a recess in the wall. Make a groove in the floor halfway between where two cable loops will lie. Position the end of the flexible conduit here. The splice between the heating cable and connection cable must also be placed in a groove so it does not protrude from the filler. Do not install in the wall or in the pipe.
Installation Steps
Prepare the Substrate:
- Ensure the floor is firm, does not sag, and is free from dirt and old floor covering. Prime the floor surface with Ebeco Primer + and let it dry.
- Draw on the floor how the mats are to be positioned.
Mounting:
- Perform the first insulation and resistance measurement of the cable. Fill in the test report or use Garantera on your smartphone.
- Start fixing the Thermoflex in a corner. If the cold cable is not long enough to reach the connection point/thermostat, cut the matting into sections and install the cable along the wall. The cable splice should be inset in the floor.
- Remove the protective foil from the mat and align it. Roll out and bond the mat to the floor, pressing it firmly.
- Roll out the matting to the opposite wall. Cut the mesh without damaging the cable. Roll the matting back. Ensure cables are not closer than 5 cm when cutting the mesh.
- Do not lay the matting under fixed fittings like toilet pans. Toilet pans can be fitted with silicone instead of screws. Cut and release mesh sections as needed to navigate around fittings.
- Press the matting down firmly with hands or feet for proper adhesion, especially on rough surfaces like concrete. Use soft-soled shoes or go barefoot to protect the cable. If not applying filler immediately, press the matting down again before filling. For improved adhesion, re-prime the floor with undiluted primer. Mesh can also be stapled to plasterboards.
- Perform other insulation and resistance measurements and document cable location with a photo.
- Cover the floor with suitable floor filler, ensuring the cable is under the sealing layer in wet rooms.
- If possible, after screeding or flooring installation, perform a third insulation and resistance measurement. Fill in the test report or use Garantera.
Wait four weeks after installation before switching on the heating. Increase heat gradually.
Energy Saving Tips!
Ebeco Thermo Board is an insulation board designed for Thermoflex Kit 500/200 under tile and natural stone floors. Its properties make the underfloor heating system extremely fast-acting. Combined with the thermostat's energy-saving program, it creates an energy-saving system. Thermo Board can be used in both wet and dry areas and replaces plasterboard in the floor construction.
