12 Assembly

12.1 Preparatory activities

12.1.1 Scope of delivery

After receipt of the delivery, check if all parts are in order. Report any damage or missing items immediately to your dealer or the shipping company. Visible damage must also be recorded without delay in accordance with the provisions of the warranty on the delivery, otherwise the goods shall be accepted as proper.

12.1.2 Workplace

Choose a suitable place for the machine. Observe the safety requirements of Chapter 11 and the dimensions of the machine from Chapter 3.2. The selected location must ensure the possibility for connection to an extraction system and a suitable connection to the electrical grid. Make sure that the floor can support the weight of the machine. The machine must be leveled on all bases simultaneously.

You must also ensure a clearance of at least 0.8 m around the machine. Before and behind the machine, the necessary distance must be provided for the supply of long workpieces.

12.1.1 Transport / unloading the machine

Lifting it out of the package for mounting and positioning on the workstation requires at least 2 people!

WARNING ⚠️ The lifting and transportation of the machine may only be carried out by qualified personnel with appropriate equipment.

For maneuvering of the machine in the packaging, a pallet truck or a forklift can also be used.

You can move the BS 128HDR after assembly by the wheels. To do this, pull the lift handle and lift the front machine part. Now you can move the machine.

12.1.2 Preparation of the surface

Eliminate the preservative, which is applied for corrosion protection of the parts without painting. This can be done with the usual solvents. Do not use nitro solvent or similar means, and in no case use water.

NOTE ℹ️ The use of paint thinners, gasoline, corrosive chemicals, or abrasive cleaners will result in damage to the surface! Therefore: When cleaning, use only mild detergent.

12.2 Assembly of the dismantled parts Transport

The BS 128HDR is assembled ready in principle. You only need to assemble the undercarriage. Mount the wheels first. After that, the base must be assembled (fitting in with the chassis). In the end, the band saw is placed on the base and fastened with screws.

Screw the suspension

The spring bracket is screwed as shown on the console.

13 Operation

12.2.1 Electrical connection

Only a qualified electrician is authorized for the electrical connection, including the installation of the supply part. This must be cut off before the electrical connection. Only if the main power supply is cut off, each contact can be closed. The cowl box is attached to the back of the machine body. There is also a junction box on the page, which you have to connect just as marked.

12.2.2 Earthing connection

ATTENTION ⚠️ When working on an ungrounded machine:

Serious injury due to electric shock in the event of a malfunction possible! Therefore: Machine must be grounded and be connected to a grounded outlet.

13.1 Adjustments before initial startup

13.1.1 Check the screwed

Check all screws before commissioning and tighten them if necessary.

13.1.2 Before you use:

Before you start the saw, make sure:

13.1.1 Adjusting the vertical bandsaw blade guide for clippings

Slightly loosen the left bandsaw blade guide with the screw for fixation.

The tolerance is set by lowering the bandsaw blade guide leveling on the bearing roll on the bandsaw blade to zero.

Slightly loosen the nuts on either side guide rollers with a wrench SW17.

With a wrench SW12, adjust the eccentric bearing roller externally or internally. Repeat on both sides until there is no play between the bearing rollers. The bandsaw blade should be centered on the upper bearing roller.

CAUTION: The two lower side rollers do not clamp!

After both bearing rollers are adjusted free of play, tighten the two nuts on the leadership roles.

Example of a perfect adjustment of the bandsaw blade guide:

Left Image: The bandsaw blade has too much play and is therefore still canted between the lateral bearing rollers.

Right Image: The saw blade is completely vertical without any play between the lateral bearing rollers.

CAUTION: Before tightening the bandsaw blade guide, examine whether the saw band is set perfectly vertical below and readjust the bandsaw blade guide accordingly.

Tighten the bandsaw blade guide with the screw for fixing.

NOTE: Check the 90° bandsaw blade guide with an angle gauge or with a rectangular workpiece. Repeat this process on the right if the saw band blade guiding is not performed exactly vertical.

NOTE: The bandsaw blade guide slides (left/right) as close as possible to the workpiece. By loosening the fixing nuts (12), the blade guides can be moved.

CAUTION: Bevel cuts result from not exactly vertical set saw blade guides and too much play between the lateral bearing rollers!

WARNING ⚠️ Perform all conversion work in isolation from the mains!

13.1.2 Select the saw blade speed

The saw blade is driven via a belt drive. Adjust the saw blade speed according to the material to be cut.

Diagram Description: A diagram shows a motor pulley and a saw pulley with belt positions labeled A-F.

Select the feed according to the following table.

Material speed (m/min) Belt position (Motor pulley) Belt position (Drive pulley) Saw band
Stainless Steel, Stainless Steel ®, Tool steel - Alloy steel, Bearing bronze23ADBi-Metal
Structural steel - iron, mild steel - Thomas steel34BEBi-Metal
Brass - Aluminium, Similar materials54CFHSS

13.1.3 Setting the blading speed

Open the lid by tightening the knob and lift the lid.

Diagram Description: An image shows a knob for opening the lid.

Now you can use the speed table in the lid to change the cutting speed.

Turn the pulley easily and the V-belt in the provided disk groove screw.

CAUTION: The V-belts must always be connected to the opposite wheels in the same plane.

13.2 Operation

13.2.1 Setting the feed

The feed can be set on the set screw on the hydraulic lowering cylinder (4).

Select the feed according to the following table.

Diagram Description: An image shows the feed adjustment mechanism.

13.2.2 Adjustment of the miter angle

Diagram Description: An image shows the miter angle adjustment mechanism.

13.2.3 Clamping the workpiece

Place the workpiece in a vice and tighten it with the hand wheel (7).

13.2.4 Setting the saw band guide

Adjust the guide so that it is approximately 2 cm in front of the workpiece.

Diagram Description: An image shows the saw band guide adjustment.

13.2.5 Set the blade tension

13.3 Operating

13.3.1 Switch ON / OFF

The machine can be switched on via the green ON button and switched off with the red OFF switch button.

Diagram Description: An image shows the limit screw adjustment.

The automatic switch-off can be adjusted by readjusting the limit screw.

NOTE ℹ️ Allow the engine to start full before starting to cut.

13.3.2 Sawing

Turn on the machine with the ON / OFF switch (9).

Remove the positioning knob.

Diagram Description: An image shows the positioning knob.

The automatic feed to the saw arm moves downwards automatically.

Do not apply pressure.

The saw automatically switches itself off after cutting the material by triggering the OFF switch button.

Pull the saw arm into the air, and insert the positioning knob back in the hole.

THE TEETH OF THE SAW BLADE SHOULD BE ADJUSTED TO THE MATERIAL TO BE CUT:

  1. The thinner/narrower the workpiece, the higher the teeth count.
  2. Basic rule: At least 3 teeth should be in contact with the material at any given time.

NOTE: If the metal band saw is not used for a long time, you can relax the saw band with the adjustment of band tightening (10).

14 Maintenance and Care

ATTENTION ⚠️

Do not clean or perform maintenance on the machine while it is still connected to the power supply: Damages to the machine and injuries might occur due to unintended switching on of the machine! Therefore: Switch the machine off and disconnect it from the power supply before any maintenance works or cleaning is carried out.

The machine requires little maintenance and contains few parts that require operator service. Faults or defects that may affect the safety of the machine must be rectified immediately. Repair work may be carried out by qualified personnel!

Complete and thorough cleaning guarantees a long lifetime of the machine and is a safety requirement. After each shift, the machine and all its parts must be thoroughly cleaned by suctioning dust and swarf, and all waste disposed of by compressed air jet. Regularly check that the warning and safety signs on the machine are present and legible. Check the soundness of the safety devices before operation. When storing, this machine must not be stored in a humid place and needs to be protected from the influence of weather conditions.

Before first use, and subsequently (if required before cleaning chips and dust), apply a thin layer of oil or grease to all moving joints every 100 working hours.

14.1 Changing the saw blade

Diagram Description: An image shows the saw band guard.

14.2 Setting tape / camber

The impeller is factory aligned to the drive wheel. However, if the saw blade is not straight or runs off the impeller (especially after exchange), an adjustment may be necessary. The tape/camber can be adjusted.

Diagram Description: Images show the clamping screw and grub screw for tape/camber adjustment.

14.1 Lubrication

Ball bearings do not require lubrication. Lubricate the threaded rod of the jaw as needed. Cover all unpainted surfaces regularly with a thin layer of light machine oil. The transmission runs in an oil bath and requires an oil change approximately once per year: Bring the saw arm to a horizontal position. Remove the four screws (part. No. 80 in exploded view) of the gear cover (83) and remove the cover. Place a drain pan under the transmission housing. Lift the saw arm out so that the oil flows. Clean the gear case of coarser waste oil residues, fill with new TRANSMISSION OIL, and install the cover properly. Dispose of the used oil ecologically.

14.2 Cleaning

NOTE ℹ️ The use of solvents, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners leads to damage to the machine! Therefore: When cleaning, use water and mild detergent if necessary.

Impregnate bare surfaces of the machine against corrosion (with anti-rust WD40).

14.3 Disposal

Do not dispose of the metal band saw BS 128HDR in residual waste. Contact your local authorities for information regarding available disposal options. When you buy a replacement unit from your local dealer, the latter is obliged to exchange your old unit.
