Understanding Infrared Technology
What Are Infrared Rays?
Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. We cannot see this band of light with the naked eye, but we can feel this type of light in the form of heat. Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between. This process is called conversion.
The infrared spectrum is divided into 3 segments by wavelengths measured in microns: Near Infrared (0.76-1.5 microns), Middle Infrared (1.5-5.6 microns), and Far Infrared (5.6-1000 microns). Among these segments, Far Infrared penetrates organic substances such as the human body two to three inches, providing a very uniform warming effect.
Diagram Description: An illustration showing the electromagnetic spectrum, highlighting the position and range of Near, Middle, and Far Infrared wavelengths.
Are Infrared Rays Safe?
Because infrared rays are part of sunlight, they are not only safe but also highly beneficial to our bodies on a cellular level. Health professionals have used infrared heat lamps for decades to treat muscle and joint problems. In hospital baby care units, incubators are often equipped with infrared heating systems to keep newborn babies warm.
What Is An Electromagnetic Field (EMF)?
An Electromagnetic Field is a physical field produced by electrically charged objects, representing one of nature's fundamental forces. It is a combination of an electric field and a magnetic field. The magnetic field is measured in milligauss (mG). Maxxus sauna products are designed to have low EMF. Our Low EMF sauna models range between an average of 5mG-10mG at about two inches from the heater panel, and our Ultra Low EMF sauna models range between 3mG-5mG at the same approximate distance.
EMF Levels from Common Homes Sources
After extensive studies on EMF exposure, no government body, including OSHA, has established permissible exposure limits (PEL). Currently, there is no consensus on the potential health hazard from EMF exposure. Mainstream scientific evidence suggests that low-power, low-frequency electromagnetic radiation associated with household currents, like that of infrared saunas, does not constitute a short or long-term health hazard.

Disclaimer
The infrared rays emitted by your sauna are reported to offer a wide range of possible therapeutic benefits based on research completed over the last 40 years. These benefits are presented for reference purposes only, and no implication of infrared saunas creating a cure for or treating any disease is implied. If you have a medical/health condition, are taking prescription drugs, or have acute joint injuries, please consult your medical physician before using the sauna. Persons with surgical implants should also consult their medical physician or surgeon before using the sauna room.
How It Works
Infrared Saunas differ from traditional saunas by using infrared radiant energy to directly penetrate the body's tissue to produce perspiration. Traditional saunas use steam to heat the air, requiring temperatures upwards of 190 degrees Fahrenheit to be effective. Infrared saunas achieve the same effect at temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, making the environment more tolerable and easier to breathe.
Diagram Description: An illustration comparing a traditional sauna, where heat warms the air, and an infrared sauna, where radiant energy directly heats the body.
Health Benefits
Infrared rays penetrate the body, creating a deep heating effect in muscle tissues and internal organs without overburdening the heart. The body's natural cooling process of perspiring removes waste residue like toxins, sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol, and heavy metals. This process opens skin pores, shedding old cells and leaving the skin glowing and clean with improved tone, elasticity, texture, and color.
Health Benefits Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Pain relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Increases blood circulation
- Cardiovascular conditioning
- Relaxes muscle spasms
- Clears, rashes, acne
- Reduces stress & fatigue
- Reduces cellulite
- Enhances skin tone
- Removes toxins
Sauna Maintenance
Infrared saunas require very little maintenance. Wipe down the interior with a damp, soft, clean cloth. Do not use any chemical-based cleaning agents, as they can be absorbed into the wood.

Operating the Sauna
NOTE: Please check and confirm that the POWER SUPPLY, HEAT EMITTERS, and TEMPERATURE SENSOR are connected properly. The power supply voltage and frequency must match the sauna's requirements (120VAC 15AMP or 120VAC 20AMP Dedicated Circuit). This is a residential/semi-commercial appliance. For every 3 hours ON, the unit must have 1 hour OFF.
Since many materials absorb infrared rays, minimal clothing is recommended for maximum effect. The infrared sauna emitters are designed to heat your body directly, not necessarily the air inside the sauna. It is not a hot box like a traditional sauna. The temperature gauge is a guide for your safety. It is recommended that you drink water before, during, and after sauna use to prevent dehydration, as body fluids will be lost through perspiration. It is not recommended to shower immediately after use, as the pores in your skin will be open and could absorb anything in the water.
Control Panel Functions:
The control panel typically features:
- TEMPERATURE: Buttons to increase/decrease temperature. The "Heat" light indicates the setting is active.
- TIMER: Buttons to set the session duration (5-60 minutes).
- POWER: [power-button] Turns the sauna ON/OFF.
- LIGHT: [light-button] Controls interior and exterior lighting, including Color Light Therapy.
- BLUETOOTH: [bluetooth-icon] For wireless audio streaming.
- MP3 JACK: [mp3-jack] For wired audio connection.
Precautions:
- Ensure your wall outlet meets required specifications to avoid safety risks.
- Set temperature and time to a comfortable level. Average temperature range: 118°F – 122°F (46°C – 49°C). Average session: 20-30 minutes.
- Pre-heating the sauna is recommended. Pre-heat time may be longer if ambient temperature is below 72°F (22°C). Avoid use in environments below 60°F (15°C).
- Drink water prior to, during, and after your session to replenish body fluids.
- After 2 hours of continuous use, the sauna needs to be shut down for one hour.
- To avoid burns, do not touch the heating elements.
Operating Procedures:
- Plug the sauna into the proper wall outlet. Ensure no other appliance shares the same electrical breaker.
- Turn on the sauna using the [power-button] to activate it.
- Unplug the sauna when not in use. Use a heavy-duty surge protector if the plug is inaccessible.
- Setting Temperature: Press the [plus-button] or [minus-button] to adjust the temperature. The "Heat" light indicates the setting is active. Holding the button for three seconds increases/decreases the temperature more quickly. The "Heat" light turns off when the desired temperature is reached.
- Color Light Therapy System:
- Press and hold the [light-button] for 2 seconds while the interior light is ON to enter "light" mode, indicated by "2n" in the LED display. If no buttons are pressed for 15 seconds, it reverts to Timer mode.
- In "light" mode, toggle the exterior light ON/OFF using the [light-button] in the exterior light section of the control panel.
- Toggle the interior light ON/OFF using the [light-button] in the interior light section of the control panel.

- To return to Timer mode, press the timer button.
- Operate the ceiling vent in the open or closed position as preferred.
- After your session, turn off the control panel using the [power-button]. Unplug the sauna cord to protect electronics from power surges.
- Setting Time: Press the [timer-up-button] or [timer-down-button] to set the timer from 5 to 60 minutes. Holding the button for three seconds adjusts the time more quickly. The timer will buzz and shut off automatically when expired. Note: Any active light must be turned OFF manually.
- Fahrenheit/Centigrade Display: Press and hold the TEMPERATURE side buttons simultaneously, then press another button to switch between Fahrenheit and Centigrade displays.
- Bluetooth Function: Pair your device via your device's Settings Menu > Bluetooth. Look for "BT-AUDIO" or "BT-SAUNA". Once paired, you can control volume and music from your device.
- MP3 Jack: Connect your musical device using an AUX wire to the MP3 Jack at the ceiling. Do not leave the AUX wire connected when not in use, as it may cause static interference. Disconnecting the MP3 wire automatically returns the sound system to Bluetooth mode.
Heating Time Estimates:
- Approximately 20 minutes to reach 100°F/38°C (starting above 70°F/21°C).
- Approximately 25-30 minutes to reach 115-120°F/46-49°C.
- Approximately 35-40 minutes to reach 125-130°F/52-54°C.
- Approximately 45-60 minutes to reach 135°F/57°C.
You can preheat the sauna or sit inside as the temperature rises. Entering before preheating increases the time to reach the set temperature. The most commonly used temperature setting is between 118°F/48°C and 122°F/50°C. Heat emitters turn off when the set temperature is reached. While the panel can be set to 151°F/66°C, the sauna will not achieve this temperature; this setting is for users who wish for emitters to remain on continuously. The sauna requires a 1-hour rest period after every 3 hours of continuous use.
Tips for Using Your Sauna

Troubleshooting Guide
1. No Heat Coming From Some Of The Heat Emitters
Solution: Check that all heat emitter cords are properly connected, including the cord to the bench emitter (if applicable). Verify connections at the roof and ensure cords are plugged into the power supply. If some emitters work but others do not, the non-working emitters may be damaged. Contact the manufacturer for replacement parts. If emitters are not working but the control panel displays time/temperature, the temperature sensor may be faulty or improperly plugged in. Turn off the panel, locate the "TEMP SENSOR" wires near the rear air vent on the roof, disconnect them, and connect a spare temperature sensor. For testing, place the spare sensor down the roof vent into the sauna. Press the power button on the control panel. If heat emitters now function, the original sensor was the issue. Replace the original sensor with the spare.
2. Control Panel Malfunctioning
Solution: If the control panel turns on but not off, or if displayed numbers flash, there may be a connection problem. Go to the roof and locate the "CTRL" wire harness. Disconnect it, check that the pins are straight, and firmly reconnect it. Attempt to turn the sauna on again. If the control panel will not turn off, or if power/work/heat lights do not come on, or if temperature/timer buttons are unresponsive, the control panel may be damaged and require replacement. Contact the manufacturer for further troubleshooting.
3. Sauna Shows Signs Of No Power
Solution: First, check if the power supply cord is plugged into the wall outlet and if the main circuit breaker has tripped. Inspect the power supply on the roof for any signs of malfunction (high temperature, burning odor, strange sounds) and check power cords for damage. If issues are found, unplug the sauna immediately and contact the manufacturer. If the sauna is plugged in but there is no power at the control panel, the power supply may need to be reset. Locate the power supply on the roof and press the RESET button. Attempt to turn the sauna on at the control panel. There could also be damage to the temperature sensor; test by replacing it with a spare as described in section 1. Ensure the wiring harness labeled "CTRL" is properly connected between the power supply and another "CTRL" harness; improper connection can result in no power.
4. CD Player Will Not Work
Solution: Ensure the lock screws on top of the radio have been removed, as the CD player will not function if they are still in place.
