Introduction to Infrared Saunas
What Are Infrared Rays?
Infrared is a band of light perceived as heat. Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air, infrared rays heat the body directly through a process called conversion. Our sun produces most of its energy in the infrared spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without heating the air in between.
Infrared is divided into three segments by wavelength (in microns):
- Near Infrared: 0.76-1.5 microns
- Middle Infrared: 1.5-5.6 microns
- Far Infrared: 5.6-1000 microns
Far Infrared penetrates organic substances like the human body two to three inches, providing a uniform warming effect.
Are Infrared Rays Safe?
Yes, infrared rays are part of sunlight and are considered safe and beneficial to the body on a cellular level. Health professionals have used infrared heat lamps for decades to treat muscle and joint problems, and they are used in hospital baby care units to keep newborns warm.
What is an Electromagnetic Field (EMF)?
An Electromagnetic Field (EMF) is a physical field produced by electrically charged objects. Maxxus sauna products are designed to have low EMF. Low EMF models range between 5mG-10mG at two inches from the heater panel, and Ultra Low EMF models range between 3mG-5mG at the same distance.
EMF Levels from Common Homes Sources
Numerous studies on EMF exposure have been conducted. While no government body has established definitive permissible exposure limits (PELs) for EMF, scientific evidence suggests that low-power, low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, like that from infrared saunas, does not constitute a short or long-term health hazard.

Disclaimer
The infrared rays emitted by your sauna are reported to offer potential therapeutic benefits based on research. These benefits are for reference only, and no implication of infrared saunas creating a cure for any disease is made. Consult your medical physician before use if you have any medical conditions, are taking prescription drugs, or have acute joint injuries. Individuals with surgical implants should also consult their physician.
How It Works
Infrared saunas use infrared radiant energy to penetrate body tissue and produce perspiration. This differs from traditional saunas that heat the air. Infrared saunas require lower temperatures (up to 120°F) compared to traditional saunas (up to 190°F) to achieve perspiration, making the environment more tolerable.
A diagram compares Traditional and Infrared saunas, showing heat waves penetrating the body directly in the infrared model.
Health Benefits
Infrared rays provide a deep heating effect in muscle tissues and internal organs without overburdening the heart. The body's natural cooling process of perspiring helps remove toxins, waste residues (like sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol, and heavy metals), and old skin cells, leaving skin glowing and clean.
Health Benefits Include:
- Pain relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Increases blood circulation
- Cardiovascular conditioning
- Relaxes muscle spasms
- Clears, rashes, acne
- Reduces stress & fatigue
- Reduces cellulite
- Enhances skin tone
- Removes toxins
Sauna Maintenance
Infrared saunas require minimal maintenance. Wipe the interior with a damp, soft, clean cloth. Do not use chemical-based cleaning agents, as they can be absorbed into the wood.

Operating the Sauna
Note: Confirm connections to the POWER SUPPLY, HEAT EMITTERS, and TEMPERATURE SENSOR are secure. The power supply voltage and frequency must match the sauna's requirements (120VAC 15AMP or 120VAC 20AMP Dedicated Circuit). This is a residential/semi-commercial appliance. For every 3 hours ON, the unit must have 1 hour OFF.
Minimal clothing is recommended for maximum effect, as infrared rays penetrate the body. The sauna is designed to heat you, not the air. The temperature gauge is for safety. Drink water before, during, and after sauna use to prevent dehydration. Avoid showering immediately after use, as skin pores may absorb substances from the water.
Control Panel
An image shows the control panel with separate sections for Temperature and Timer, featuring buttons for power, heat, light, and timer adjustments.
1. Precautions:
- Ensure your wall outlet meets the required specifications to avoid safety risks.
- Set temperature and time to a comfortable level. The average temperature range is 118°F – 122°F (48°C – 50°C). An average session is 20-30 minutes. Pre-heat the sauna to the desired temperature before entering. If the ambient temperature is below 72°F (22°C), pre-heating will take longer. Do not use the sauna in ambient temperatures below 60°F (15.5°C).
- Drink water prior to, during, and after your sauna session to replenish body fluids.
- After 2 hours of continuous use, the sauna must be shut down for one hour.
- Do not touch the heating element to avoid burns.
2. Operating The Sauna:
- Review the electrical label on the sauna and plug it into the proper wall outlet. No other appliance should be on the same electrical breaker. Use the ON/OFF button to activate the sauna.
- Unplug the sauna when not in use. If the plug is inaccessible, use a heavy-duty surge protector.
- Setting Temperature: Press the temperature buttons (e.g., '+' and '-') to increase or decrease the temperature. The "Heat" light indicates the temperature is being adjusted. The "Heat" light turns off when the desired temperature is reached.
- Light Control (Color Light Therapy System): Press the light button to turn the interior and exterior lights ON/OFF. To access color therapy, while the interior light is ON and the display shows "2n" (light mode), press the color selection button to cycle through colors. Two "white" selections are available: one cycles through shades of white, the other displays a solid white light. Press the timer button to return to Timer mode.

- Fahrenheit/Centigrade Display: Switch between °F and °C by pressing and holding the TEMPERATURE side buttons simultaneously, then pressing another button (specific button not clearly indicated in text, likely a dedicated switch or button).
- Bluetooth Function: Pair your device by opening your device's Bluetooth settings and selecting "BT-AUDIO" or "BT-SAUNA". Once paired, you can control volume and music from your device.
- MP3 Jack: Connect your musical device using an AUX wire. Plug one end into your device and the other into the MP3 Jack at the ceiling. Do not leave the AUX wire connected when not in use to avoid static interference. When disconnecting the MP3 wire, the sound system reverts to Bluetooth mode.
Heating Times:
- Approx. 20 minutes to reach 100°F (38°C) (starting above 70°F / 21°C).
- Approx. 25-30 minutes to reach 115-120°F (46-49°C).
- Approx. 35-40 minutes to reach 125-130°F (52-54°C).
- Approx. 45-60 minutes to reach 135°F (57°C).
You can preheat the sauna or sit inside as it heats up. The most common temperature setting is between 118°F and 122°F. Heat emitters turn off once the set temperature is reached. While the panel allows setting up to 151°F, the sauna room will not achieve this temperature; this setting is for users who prefer emitters to remain on longer. After 3 hours of continuous use, the sauna needs a 1-hour shutdown.
Towel Usage: Use two towels. Fold one for the bench to absorb perspiration and add comfort. Use the second towel to wipe perspiration from your body to enhance sweating and prevent dripping. Never place towels over the floor heater. A third towel can be used to cover legs for warmth.
CAUTION: Exit sauna immediately if you feel dizzy, sleepy, or any discomfort.
Tips for Using Your Sauna
- A hot/warm shower before use may increase perspiration and comfort.

Troubleshooting Guide
1. No Heat Coming From Some Of The Heat Emitters
- Solution: Check that all heat emitter cords are properly connected, including the one under the bench (if applicable). Verify connections on the roof and ensure cords are plugged into the power supply.
- Solution: If some emitters work and others don't, the non-working ones may be damaged. Do not continue use; contact the manufacturer for replacement parts.
- Solution: If emitters aren't working but the control panel displays time/temperature, the temperature sensor may be unplugged or damaged. Turn off the panel, go to the roof, locate the "TEMP SENSOR" wires (red and black near the air vent), disconnect them, and connect a spare sensor. Test by inserting the spare sensor into the roof vent. If emitters heat, the sensor was the issue. Replace the original sensor with the spare. Allow a few minutes for confirmation.
2. Control Panel Malfunctioning
- Solution: If the control panel turns on but not off, or numbers flash, it may be a connection problem. Go to the roof, locate the "CTRL" wire harness, disconnect it, check pins for straightness, and reconnect firmly. Test the panel again. Contact the manufacturer for further troubleshooting.
- Solution: If the control panel won't turn off, or power/heat/timer lights/buttons don't work, the control panel may be damaged and require replacement. Contact the manufacturer.
3. Sauna Shows Signs Of No Power
- Solution: Check if the power supply cord is plugged into the wall outlet and if the main circuit breaker has tripped. Inspect the power supply on the roof for signs of malfunction (high temperature, burning odor, strange sounds) and check power cords for damage. If issues are found, unplug the sauna immediately and contact the manufacturer.
- Solution: If the sauna is plugged in but has no power at the control panel, the power supply may need resetting. Locate the power supply on the roof and press the RESET button. Attempt to turn the sauna on again. Contact the manufacturer for additional troubleshooting.
- Solution: Damage to the temperature sensor can cause no power. If a spare sensor was provided, turn off the control panel, go to the roof, locate the "TEMP SENSOR" wires, disconnect them, and connect the spare. Test by inserting the spare sensor into the roof vent. If heat emitters work, the sensor is the cause. Replace the original sensor.
- Solution: Check wiring harnesses from the power supply on the roof. Ensure the "CTRL" harness is properly connected at both ends. Improper connection can result in no power.
4. CD Player Will Not Work
- Solution: Ensure the lock screws on top of the radio have been removed. The CD player will not function if these screws remain.
