Tools Required for Installation/Maintenance

Prior to Installation

All Bristan products are safe when installed, operated, and maintained according to these instructions. Installation must comply with The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009 and The Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014. For full requirements, visit www.wrasapprovals.co.uk/approvals-directory.

Isolation valves must be fitted to inlet water supplies for maintenance. Thoroughly flush the water supply before installation to remove debris. Ensure full access for future maintenance. Modifications will invalidate the guarantee.

Important Notes

Images are for illustrative purposes only. Your purchased tap may differ in appearance but installation steps remain the same. Your specific contents page is definitive. Contact customer support if components differ from the contents page.

Installation

  1. Feed the tap body through the plinths, ensuring rubber plinth seals are in place. Once aligned, feed the threaded tails through the tap holes. Note: Some models may have a pre-attached plinth.
  2. Align the hole on the plinth with the exposed grub screw and ensure the rubber seal is correctly positioned before attaching the washer and backnut.
  3. To secure the taps to the bath, use a box spanner to tighten the metal backnuts underneath, ensuring the washer is correctly positioned between the backnuts and the bath.
  4. Connect the hot and cold water supplies to the threaded tails. Remember: Hot on the left, Cold on the right!

General Cleaning

Bristan products use premium materials with durable finishes. Clean taps/showers regularly with warm water, a mild pH-neutral liquid soap, and polish with a soft cloth. Rinse off residues from soap, toothpaste, shampoos, and shower gels promptly to prevent blemishes.

Avoid household bleaches and cleaners, as they contain harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. Do not use abrasive cloths, scouring pads, scrub sponges, or steel wool.

Maintenance - Valve Replacement

Note: Taps shown are illustrative; these instructions apply to all taps.

  1. Isolate the water supply before starting! ⚠️
  2. Remove the handles, including any spline adaptors. Note: Grub screws and caps may be located at the front of the handle.
  3. Remove shrouds, screws, and spline adaptors if your model has them.
  4. Unscrew the handle and washer to remove the handles.
  5. When replacing, ensure the valve is fully closed with the handle parallel to the spout.
  6. Remove the valve using the required tool. Check seals and O-rings for damage. Replace the valve if necessary. Take care when removing/replacing the long-stemmed valve, as the finish could be damaged or scratched.

Maintenance - Clean/Replace Outlet

  1. Housed Outlet: Using an adjustable spanner, gently unscrew to remove the outlet.
  2. Recessed Outlet: If provided, insert the key tool into the outlet and twist to release it.
  3. Coin Slot Outlet: Using a coin, insert into the slot on the outlet and twist to release it.

Refer to your contents page to identify your outlet type.
