Introduction
The Nikon GP-1A GPS Unit is an accessory designed to record location data such as latitude, longitude, altitude, and UTC onto your photographs. This manual guides users through the setup and operation of the GP-1A, ensuring optimal performance when paired with compatible Nikon cameras.
Key Features and Components
The GP-1A unit attaches to compatible Nikon cameras via specific cables. It allows for the addition of geotagging information to images, which can then be viewed on online map services when processed with compatible software like ViewNX.
Included Accessories:
- GPS Unit GP-1A
- 10-pin terminal cable GP1-CA10A
- Accessory terminal cable GP1-CA90
- Strap adapter GP1-CL1
- User's Manual
- Warranty Card
Connecting the GP-1A
The GP-1A can be connected to various Nikon camera models using either the 10-pin terminal cable (for higher-end DSLRs) or the accessory terminal cable (for entry-level DSLRs and other models). Ensure the camera's power is turned off before connecting the unit. The GP-1A receives power directly from the camera.
Additionally, the GP-1A supports connection with the optional MC-DC2 remote cord for remote shutter release functionality.
Mounting the GP-1A
The GP-1A can be mounted in two primary ways:
- Directly onto the camera's accessory shoe using its mounting foot.
- Onto the camera's strap using the included strap adapter. Note that mounting on the strap may affect GPS signal reception sensitivity due to the orientation of the internal antenna.
Important Safety Information
Users are advised to read the safety precautions carefully before use. These precautions cover potential hazards such as electric shock, fire, and injury resulting from improper handling, disassembly, exposure to water, or placement in extreme temperatures. Always follow the guidelines provided to ensure safe operation.
