Nikon D500 DSLR Camera: Technical Specifications

Concentrated Performance: The Nikon D500

The Nikon D500 is a DX-format flagship camera, offering exceptional power and precision for demanding photographic tasks. It serves as a smaller, lighter alternative to full-frame models, designed to meet and exceed advanced user expectations.

Feature Highlights

Flagship AF Performance

Equipped with the same autofocus (AF) system as the Nikon D5, the D500 provides unprecedented coverage with 153 focus points, including 99 cross-type sensors, covering nearly the entire viewfinder frame. AF sensitivity extends down to -4 EV at the central point and -3 EV (ISO 100, 20 °C/68 °F) for other points, ensuring superior low-light performance.

New Metering and Image Sensors

The camera features an all-new 20.9 MP DX-format CMOS image sensor and a 180K-pixel RGB metering sensor. These components deliver phenomenal subject recognition, detailed image capture, and richer, more accurate tonal gradations.

High-Speed Image Capture

The D500 can shoot at up to 10 frames per second (fps), capturing up to 200 NEF (RAW) or large JPEG images in a single high-speed burst. AF tracking and viewfinder visibility remain exceptional even during fast, unpredictable action. The camera includes two card slots, one for XQD cards and one for SD UHS II cards, facilitating incredible shooting speeds.

Phenomenal Sensitivity: Nail the Shots Others Can't Even See

The D500 excels in low-light conditions. Its new EXPEED 5 processing engine ensures unprecedentedly high image quality across the standard ISO range of 100 to 51200. ISO values can be extended up to ISO 1640000 equivalent at the Hi 5 setting, and down to ISO 50 equivalent at the Lo 1 setting.

High-Definition 4K/UHD Movies

The D500 supports 4K/UHD movies (3840x2160 pixels) at 30p/25p/24p using dot-by-dot native pixel crop for the highest image quality. Full HD (1080p) video can be recorded at up to 50p/60p in multiple formats. In-camera electronic Vibration Reduction (e-VR) significantly reduces camera shake during handheld Full HD movie recording. Users can also create 4K/UHD time-lapse movies directly in-camera.
