Overview - Buttons & Ports

The Saregama Carvaan is a portable retro music player with a user-friendly interface. Key components are located on the top, front, side, and back of the device.

Top View:

• [power-button]: The main power button for turning the device on and off.
• [battery-charging-indicator]: An indicator light that shows the battery charging status.

Front View:

• [categories-buttons]: Buttons for selecting music categories: ARTISTES, MOODS, GEETMALA.
• [display-panel]: A screen displaying the current song title, artist, and mode.
• [station-selector]: A rotary knob used to navigate through stations or songs within a category.
• [prev-next-button]: Buttons for skipping to the previous or next song/station.

Side View:

• [volume-knob]: A rotary knob for adjusting the volume.
• [audio-jack]: A 3.5mm audio jack for connecting external speakers or headphones.

Back View:

• [usb-port]: Port for connecting a USB drive to play music.
• [charging-port]: Port for connecting the power adapter to charge the device.

Reset Button:

A hidden reset button is available to re-configure Carvaan to its original factory settings.

Charging the Device:

To charge the Carvaan, plug the provided adaptor into an Indian Standard power socket (220V, 50Hz) and connect the other end to the charging port on the Carvaan.

Overview - Remote

The remote control provides convenient access to Carvaan's features:

• Category Selection: ARTISTES, MOODS, GEETMALA buttons to choose your preferred music category when in Saregama mode.
• Station Navigation: Use the '<' and '>' buttons to go to the previous or next station within a category.
• Song Navigation: Use the 'i<' and '>i' buttons to go to the previous or next song.
• Playback Control: Play/Pause button.
• Volume Control: '-' and '+' buttons to decrease or increase volume.
• Mode Activation: Buttons to activate Saregama mode, USB mode, FM mode, and Bluetooth (BT) mode.

Replacing the Remote Battery:

1. Open the battery compartment.
2. Insert a fresh CR2025 battery, ensuring correct polarity (-/+).
3. Close the battery compartment.
4. Dispose of the used battery responsibly.

Modes of Operation

You can switch between different modes by pressing the corresponding button on the Carvaan device or its remote. The button's illumination indicates the active mode.

Saregama Mode

Enjoy over 5000 ghazals, Bollywood songs, the Geetmala Ki Chaon Mein collection by Ameen Sayani, and devotional songs.

• Activation: Press the Saregama mode button on the Carvaan or remote, then select a category button.
• Content Categories:
  • Artistes: 24 music stations dedicated to legendary artists like Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, R. D. Burman, and Mohammed Rafi.
  • Moods: 9 music stations covering various moods such as Romance, Happy, and Sad.
  • Geetmala: 50 music stations featuring songs from the Geetmala Ki Chaon Mein collection spanning five decades, curated by Ameen Sayani.
• Navigation:
  • To move between stations within a category, turn the station selector left/right on the Carvaan or press '<' / '>' on the remote.
  • To move between songs, press the 'i<' / '>i' buttons on the Carvaan or remote.

Bluetooth Mode

Play music stored on your personal devices (mobile phone, tablet, etc.) wirelessly through the Carvaan speakers.

• Activation: Press the Bluetooth mode button on the Carvaan or remote.
• Pairing: On your personal device, turn on Bluetooth, and select 'Saregama Carvaan' from the list of available devices. Your device will automatically pair with Carvaan.
• Confirmation: Once paired, the display panel will show 'BT DEVICE PAIRED'.

Remember: Supports Bluetooth version 4.1. You can stream music from your device to Carvaan, but not from Carvaan to other devices like Bluetooth headsets. Playback control (play/pause/skip) is managed via your personal device.

USB Mode

Play songs stored on your USB drives via the Carvaan.

• Operation: Plug your USB drive into the USB port. Press the USB mode button. Use the station selector or '<' / '>' buttons to navigate folders. Use 'i<' / '>i' buttons to select the previous/next song.

Remember: Supports USB 2.0. You cannot play songs from phones/laptops using a USB connector.

FM Mode

Listen to local FM radio channels.

• Operation: Press the FM mode button. The first available FM channel will start playing automatically. Use the 'i<' / '>i' buttons or the station selector to switch between or tune FM channels.

Remember: Only FM radio channels are available in this mode. AM and SW bands are not supported.

Default Mode: Upon the first power-on, Carvaan defaults to Saregama mode.

Carvaan features over 80 pre-loaded stations categorized by Moods, Geetmala collections, and Artistes.

Battery Information

The battery indicator on the display shows the current battery strength. A full charge takes approximately 2-3 hours, providing about 5 hours of usage. The charging indicator light turns red while charging and switches off automatically when the battery is fully charged.

Safety Handling

1. Care for Product

• Keep the Carvaan away from heat sources like heat registers and stoves, as excessive heat can cause damage.
• Avoid spilling water or any other liquids on the device, as this can lead to failure or pose a fire hazard.
• For safety, unplug the unit during lightning storms or if you do not expect to use it for extended periods.
• Clean the unit only with a dry cloth.
• Ensure safe handling of the Carvaan during transportation.

2. Care for Battery

• Do not expose the battery to heat sources exceeding 60°C.
• Recycle or dispose of the battery when necessary, following proper battery handling and disposal methods.
• Protect the battery pack from mechanical shock.
• In case of a battery leak, prevent contact of the liquid with skin or eyes. If contact occurs, wash the affected area with water and seek medical advice.
• To prolong battery life, avoid completely discharging the battery.
• Switch off the power button if the battery is completely discharged.

3. Care for Charger

• Use only the charger specifically provided with the Carvaan.
• If the provided plug does not fit your power socket, consult an electrician.
• Do not walk on or pinch the power cord near the plug.

4. Care for Remote

• Do not expose the remote to extreme temperatures or high humidity.
• Do not immerse the remote in water.
• Remove the battery if the remote will not be used for a long time.
• Do not mix different brands or types of batteries in the remote.

5. Other Precautions

• Use attachments and accessories as specified by the manufacturer.

Dispose of used electrical products responsibly, following local authority guidelines for disposal and recycling.

Warranty Overview

This section provides a summary of the warranty terms. Detailed warranty information is available on pages 24 onwards.

Warranty Coverage:

• A 1-year warranty is provided on all parts of the Saregama Carvaan (excluding accessories), covering repair, replacement of damaged parts, and servicing.

Warranty Exclusions:

• Liability for loss of data/content due to misuse or tampering.
• Functionality of accessories.
• Wear and tear of the memory card, speaker, battery, and display panel if the product is used for commercial, business, industrial, educational, or rental purposes.
• Damage caused by acts of God, force majeure events, fire, water damage, or electrical disturbances.

To register a complaint or request service, please call the toll-free number 1800-102-7799.

Key Warranty Terms:

• Scope: Covers defects in manufacturer's material or workmanship. Excludes accidental damage, misuse, acts of God, and normal wear and tear, especially in commercial applications. Accessories are not covered.
• Period: 1-year standard warranty from the date of purchase.
• Type: Offers Home Service Warranty (technician visit) or Carry-in Warranty (customer brings product to service center).
• Terms: Warranty is valid only for products purchased from Saregama or authorized dealers/resellers. It terminates one year from the purchase date, regardless of usage. It is limited to manufacturing/workmanship defects.
• Void Conditions: Physical damage, unauthorized repairs or modifications, operation contrary to the user manual, improper storage, exposure to elements, or tampering with the model/serial number will void the warranty.
• Limitation of Liability: Saregama disclaims other warranties and limits its liability to the product's price or repair cost. It is not responsible for indirect damages like lost profits or data loss.
• Governing Laws: Disputes are governed by the laws of India, with exclusive jurisdiction in the courts of Kolkata.

The warranty card requires customer details such as Name, Address, Product Serial No., Date of Purchase, and Dealer's Name, along with signatures to accept the terms and conditions.
