Product Overview

The AL5958Q is a 48-channel constant current source LED driver featuring 16 built-in NMOS scan switches, designed for automotive matrix display and illumination applications. Its comprehensive feature set enhances safety, personalization, and aesthetics in new vehicle platforms.

The AL5958Q's integrated intelligent matrix display command functions significantly reduce the processing load on the local microcontroller. These functions include automatic black-frame insertion to mitigate blur effects and other system compensation schemes. Additional performance features include open-LED fail line detection and staggered current output delay to minimize inrush current.

With its high 16-bit resolution dimming and RGB support, the device enables precise brightness control and sophisticated color mixing. The advanced multiplex-pulse density modulation (M-PDM) technology boosts the refresh rate of dynamic scanning systems without increasing the grayscale (GCK) clock frequency, thereby effectively reducing EMI.

The AL5958Q is available in the wettable W-QFN9090-76/SWP package. A standard compliance version, the AL5958, is also available for industrial and commercial applications.

This product is automotive-compliant, being AEC qualified and manufactured in sites certified to IATF 16949, supporting PPAP documents.

System Diagram

Each AL5958Q is configured to drive 32 RGB LEDs, totaling 96 channels across the two devices. The system utilizes a scan matrix approach where 32 scan lines (labeled scan1 to scan32) are used per chip. Each scan line activates a specific set of LEDs. The connections to the LEDs include VGB, VR, VGB, GND, DO (data output), and REXT (current setting resistor). The diagram implies that the 32 scan lines are sequentially activated to address individual LEDs or groups of LEDs, enabling dynamic lighting effects and matrix displays. The AL5958Q supports multiplexing and cascading for scalability.
