General Information
This manual provides essential information for the installation, utilization, and maintenance of Aquastrong swimming pool pumps. It is recommended to read this manual carefully and keep it for future reference.
These pumps are designed for permanently installed pools and are horizontal, self-priming centrifugal pumps. Proper installation and maintenance are crucial for optimal performance and longevity.
Safety Precautions:
- This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
- Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
- If the appliance or the supply cord is damaged, it must be repaired by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a qualified person.
- Do not dispose of electrical appliances as unsorted municipal waste; use separate collection facilities.
- The pump must not be used when people are in the water.
- Always disconnect power to the pump at the circuit breaker before servicing.
Pump Fixing
Ensure the pump and terminal connections are protected from moisture and potential flooding. Installation is authorized only in swimming pools and basins that comply with current standards.
Pumps are typically installed between the skimmer and the pool filter, positioned as close as possible to the water level to minimize suction distance and reduce head losses. It is recommended not to install the pump more than 10 ft above the water level.
The pump must be mounted on a firm base and can be bolted to the ground. The shaft should be in a horizontal position with the pre-filter cover on top. Ensure the transparent cover is accessible for cleaning the filtering basket.
Install pumps in a dry, well-ventilated place, sheltered from the rain. If in doubt, contact your specialist supplier or a qualified electrician.

Installation of the Pipes
If plastic pipes are used, seal them with Teflon tape. The diameter of the delivery and suction pipes must be greater than or equal to the pump's inlet and outlet ports.
Minimize head losses by limiting the length of the suction pipe and avoiding bends. Use new, clean unions for absolute tightness. Delivery and suction pipes must not induce mechanical loads on the pump. Install suction and delivery valves to isolate the pump.
Electrical Installation and Wiring
All electrical wiring must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. Ensure the circuit is protected by a Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI).
The pump accepts 220V, 60 Hz single-phase input power. Use appropriate wire sizes (up to 16 AWG solid or stranded wire) and ensure all connections are clean and tight.
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. Always disconnect power before wiring or servicing. Permanently ground the motor using the ground screw. Bond the motor to all metal parts of the pool structure and equipment.
The pump should be permanently connected to a circuit breaker, 2-pole timer, or 2-pole relay. If using a GFCI circuit breaker, ensure it is dedicated to the pump.
Caution: The pump must be located in Zone 2 (at least 2 meters from the pool), and the power supply connection in Zone 3 (at least 3.5 meters from the pool), according to IEC 60364-7-702.
The pump's electrical power supply must have a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA. The power cable must comply with type H05RN-F 3X0.75mm.
Equipotentiality: The pump's equipotentiality terminal must be connected to the building installation's equipotentiality terminal. The symbol for equipotentiality is shown.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the grounding terminal and bonding requirements for the pump installation.
Check Before First Starting the Pump
- Verify that the mains power voltage and frequency match the pump's identification plate.
- Ensure the pump shaft turns freely.
- Unscrew the pre-filter cover and fill the pump with water up to the lower level of the suction pipe.
- Screw the pre-filter cover back on firmly.
- If the motor does not start or no water is extracted, consult the troubleshooting table.
- NEVER OPERATE THE PUMP WHEN NOT FILLED WITH WATER or with the water inlet sucked.
Starting the Pump
After filling the pump with water, open all suction and delivery valves and start the motor. Wait for self-priming. The pump is correctly primed when the water level is just below the transparent cover.
Timer Instruction
Calculate the appropriate pump run time based on pool size. To set the timer:
- Wait until the desired start time. Plug in the power supply; the indicator light will flash.
- Press the timer button to select the desired running hours (e.g., "10" for 10 hours).
- Press the ON/OFF button. The pump will run for the set duration daily at the specified start time.
Note: There is no functional difference between the indicator light flashing red or green.
Diagram Description: The diagrams illustrate the steps for setting the timer function on the pump's control panel, showing the ON/OFF button and the TIMER button with running hour indicators.
Servicing
Aquastrong pumps require minimal servicing. Periodically clean the pre-filter:
- Close suction and delivery valves.
- Loosen black nuts and remove the pre-filter cover.
- Withdraw and clean the filtering basket.
- Examine the pre-filter cover gasket and replace if damaged.
If the pump is not used during winter, empty it (remove drain plug) to prevent freezing damage, clean it, and store it in a dry, well-aired place.
In case of failure, do not attempt to repair the pump; contact Aquastrong technical service. Always disconnect the pump from the electrical supply before any servicing.
Problems and Solutions
Possible Faults | Causes | Solutions |
---|---|---|
Pump does not prime | Air entry, Bad watertightness of cover, Excessive suction height, No water in prefilter | Verify watertightness of connectors and seals, Clean cover and verify seals, Set pump at suitable level, Fill prefilter with water |
Low flow rate | Filter clogged, Diameter of suction line smaller than required, Discharge clogged | Clean filter, Correctly dimension suction line, Inspect filter and discharge line |
Pump makes noise | Incorrect pump attachment | Attach pump correctly |
Pump does not start | Incorrect voltage, Motor blocked | Verify voltage, Call technical service |
Motor makes noise but does not start | No tension, Motor blocked | Reset the fuses, Call the technical service |
