Before You Begin

Important Notes

For Installer: Read this manual thoroughly before starting installation to promote safety and minimize problems. Leave this manual with the user. Record the appliance's model/serial numbers for service/maintenance reference.

For User: Keep this manual for personal reference and for inspectors/service personnel. Overall design and accessories may differ by model.

Important Safety Instructions

For Your Safety

• WARNING: For personal safety, remove house fuse or open circuit breaker before beginning installation. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.
• Ensure your cooktop is installed properly by a qualified installer or service technician.
• To eliminate the risk of burns or fire, avoid cabinet storage above surface elements. If necessary, install a range hood projecting at least 5" beyond cabinets. Cabinet depth above cooktop should not exceed 13".
• Ensure cabinets and wall coverings around the cooktop can withstand temperatures up to 194°F (90°C).
• The cooktop should be easily reachable and illuminated.
• Always disconnect electrical service before repairing or servicing. Know where your main disconnect switch is located.
• This appliance must be supplied with proper voltage/frequency and connected to an individual, properly grounded branch circuit, protected by a 40A circuit breaker (30" models) or 45A circuit breaker (36" models).
• We recommend a qualified electrician for wiring and hookup.
• Cooktop conduit wiring is approved for copper wire only. Use UL-approved connectors for joining copper to aluminum if you have aluminum house wiring.

WARNING: Before beginning installation, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting switch. If it cannot be locked, attach a prominent warning device (tag) to the service panel.

WARNING: This appliance must be properly grounded.

Installation Requirements

Tools and Parts

Tools Needed:

• Pencil
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Ruler or Straightedge
• Safety Glasses
• Saber Saw
• 1/8" Drill Bit & Electric or Hand Drill

Parts Needed:

• A UL listed or CSA approved connector for 1/2" (1.3 cm) diameter conduit
• UL listed wire connectors
• Check local codes. Check existing electrical supply.
• It is recommended that all electrical connections be made by a licensed, qualified electrical installer.

Parts Included:

• 6 screws (M4 L10 2 ea, M4 L16 2 ea, UNC 243/16 L75 2 ea)
• Bracket Guide: 2 ea
• Foam tape

Location Requirements

• Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
• Cabinet opening dimensions shown must be used.
• Recessed installation area must provide complete enclosure around the recessed portion of the cooktop.
• Grounded electrical supply is required.
• Note: It is recommended to install the junction box on the right side of the cabinet. If installing near the left side, ensure it does not interfere with the cooktop (conceal inside the wall).
• IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to cabinets, check with your builder or cabinet supplier regarding materials' resistance to discoloration or damage from heat (up to 194°F / 90°C).

The following table details the dimensions for the DTI30M (30") and DTI36M (36") models.

Clearances and Mounting

IMPORTANT: If installing a range hood or microwave hood combination above the cooktop, follow their specific installation instructions for dimensions and clearances.

The diagram shows required clearances from the rear wall, countertop, and side walls, as well as junction box placement.

Under Counter Installation (Single Oven): Refer to oven installation manual. Key dimensions for under-counter mounting are provided:

Note: If a cabinet has a drawer, a minimum 5" (127 mm) depth clearance is required from the bottom of the cooktop to the top of the drawer or other obstruction.

IMPORTANT: The junction box must be located to allow considerable slack in the conduit for serviceability.

Electrical Requirements

WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect power before servicing. Use 8 gauge solid copper wire. Electrically ground cooktop.

Refer to the label on the bottom or front of the cooktop for power requirements and model information.

This cooktop must be connected to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system. Ensure the electrical connection and wire size are adequate and conform to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) or CSA Standards (C22.1-94, C22.2 No. O-M91) and all local codes.

Before making the electrical connection:

• A 3-wire or 4-wire, single phase, 208 or 240 volt AC, 60-Hz power supply is required.
• Use a dedicated double pole circuit breaker: at least 40 amps for 30" cooktop, at least 45 amps for 36" cooktop.
• Note: The cooktop is rated 240 volt. Some models have a neutral (white) wire.
• Connect the cooktop directly to the junction box via flexible, armored, or nonmetallic sheathed copper cable.
• Locate the junction box to allow maximum slack for servicing.
• Do not cut the conduit; use the provided length.
• A UL listed or CSA approved conduit connector is necessary at each end of the power supply cable. A connector is provided at the cooktop.
• If house wiring is aluminum: Connect a section of solid copper wire to the pigtail leads. Connect the aluminum wiring to the added copper wire using special connectors/tools designed and UL listed for joining copper to aluminum. Follow manufacturer's procedures. Ensure compliance with local codes and industry practices.

Electrical Connection Options:

1. 4-Wire Cable from Power Supply to 3-Wire Cable from Cooktop:

Use this method where local codes do not permit connecting the frame-ground conductor to the Neutral (N) junction box wire.

Wiring Steps:

1. Disconnect power.
2. Remove junction box cover.
3. Connect cooktop flexible cable conduit to junction box using a UL/CSA approved conduit connector. Tighten screws.
4. Connect the two L2 wires (typically Red) together using UL listed wire connectors.
5. Connect the two L1 wires (typically Black) together using UL listed wire connectors.
6. Connect the Ground (G) or bare ground wire from the cooktop cable to the Ground (G) or bare ground wire in the junction box using UL listed wire connectors.
7. Put a UL listed wire connector on the end of the Neutral (N) wire (typically White) from the power supply.
8. Install junction box cover.
9. Reconnect power.
10. Note: Do not connect the bare ground wire to the Neutral (N) wire in the junction box.

2. 3-Wire Cable from Power Supply to 3-Wire Cable from Cooktop:

Use this method where local codes permit. Connect the cooktop ground wire to the neutral wire from the junction box.

Wiring Steps:

1. Disconnect power.
2. Remove junction box cover.
3. Connect cooktop flexible cable conduit to junction box using a UL/CSA approved conduit connector. Tighten screws.
4. Connect the two L2 wires (typically Red) together using UL listed wire connectors.
5. Connect the two L1 wires (typically Black) together using UL listed wire connectors.
6. Connect the Ground (G) or bare ground wire from the cooktop cable to the Ground (G) or bare ground wire in the junction box using UL listed wire connectors.
7. Install junction box cover.
8. Reconnect power.

Complete Installation

1. Check that all parts are installed. Revisit steps if extra parts remain.
2. Verify all tools are accounted for.
3. Dispose of/recycle all packaging materials.
4. Clean the cooktop with a mild solution of liquid household cleaner and warm water. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Refer to User's Manual for more details.
5. Reconnect power.

Note: Keep the serial-number label (located on the top of the cooktop) in the user manual or a safe place for future reference.
