Important Information About Safety Instructions

The safety instructions and warnings in this manual are not exhaustive. Use common sense and caution. Always contact the Dacor Customer Service Team about problems or situations you do not understand.

Safety Symbols, Labels, and Alerts

DANGER: Immediate hazards that WILL result in severe personal injury or death.

WARNING: Hazards or unsafe practices that COULD result in severe personal injury or death.

CAUTION: Hazards or unsafe practices that COULD result in minor personal injury or property damage.

Gas Leak Safety

DANGER: If you smell gas:

  • Do not use or light any appliance.
  • Do not touch any electrical switch or use any electrical devices, including the telephone in your building.
  • From a neighbor's phone, immediately call the gas supplier. Follow their instructions.
  • If you cannot contact the gas supplier, call the fire department.

IMPORTANT: To avoid the possibility of explosion or fire, do not store or use combustible, flammable or explosive vapors and liquids (such as gasoline) inside or in the vicinity of this or any other appliance. Keep items that could explode, such as aerosol cans, away from the cooktop. Do not store flammable or explosive materials in adjacent cabinets or areas.

General Safety Precautions

WARNING: NEVER use this appliance as a space heater to heat or warm the room. Doing so may result in carbon monoxide poisoning and overheating of the appliance.

WARNING: NEVER cover the slots between the burner control knobs and the trim rings on the cooktop. Doing so blocks air flow and may cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Aluminum foil linings may also trap heat, causing a fire hazard. Keep all slots clear of grease and grime.

CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING: The burning of gas cooking fuel generates by-products known by the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Ensure good ventilation when cooking with gas.

General Safety Precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious injury or death:

  • If you receive a damaged product, immediately contact your dealer or builder. Do not install or use a damaged appliance.
  • Ensure the cooktop is properly installed and grounded by a qualified installer. Know the location of the gas shut-off valve and power cord.
  • Do not install, repair or replace any part unless specifically recommended in the literature. All other service should be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Before servicing, turn off the gas supply and disconnect the power cord.
  • Use this cooktop only for expected home appliance cooking tasks. It is not intended for commercial use.
  • DO NOT TOUCH COOKTOP SURFACES DURING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER USE. Allow sufficient time to cool.
  • Ensure individuals using the cooktop are able to operate it properly.
  • Never allow children to sit, stand or climb on any part of the cooktop.

  • The cooktop should never be operated without knobs in place.
  • Non-stick coatings, when heated, can be harmful to pet birds. Relocate pet birds to a separate, well-ventilated room while using the appliance.
  • When deep fat frying: Ensure the pan is large enough to contain food without overflow. Never leave a deep fat fryer unattended. Avoid frying moist or frost-covered foods. Heat fat slowly and stir oils/fats before heating. Use a thermometer to avoid heating fat above its flash point.
  • This appliance is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug. If only a two-prong outlet is available, have it replaced by a licensed electrician with a grounded three-prong outlet.
  • DO NOT cut or remove the third (ground) prong.
  • DO NOT use an adapter plug.
  • DO NOT use an extension cord.
  • DO NOT use a power cord that is frayed or damaged.
  • DO NOT plug the cooktop into an outlet with a ground fault interrupter (GFI).

Cooktop Grease Fire Safety

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY TO PERSONS IN THE EVENT OF A COOKTOP GREASE FIRE:

  • a. SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet or metal tray, then turn off the burner. BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If flames do not go out immediately, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
  • b. NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN - you may be burned.
  • c. DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dish cloths or towels - a violent steam explosion may result.
  • d. Use a fire extinguisher ONLY if: You have a Class ABC extinguisher and know how to operate it; the fire is small and contained; the fire department is being called; you can fight the fire with your back to an exit.

PROLONGED POWER FAILURE

Do not attempt to use this appliance during a continuous power failure.

CAUTION

  • Do not allow acids (citrus juices, tomato sauces, etc.) to remain on surfaces; porcelain finish may stain.
  • Never use the cooktop surface as a cutting board.
  • Do not try to remove heavy spills with a sharp object (knife, metal spatula). Sharp objects may scratch surfaces.
  • Do not expose knobs or trim rings to direct flame, hot utensils, or other heat sources.

Getting to Know Your Cooktop

Parts of the Cooktop / Other Features

  • SimmerSear™ Burners: Dacor's exclusive precision burner control system offering a wide range of heat settings from simmer to sear.
  • Sealed Burners: Gaskets prevent spilled liquids from leaking into internal parts.
  • Long-Life Grates: Porcelain coated cast iron grates support cookware and are removable for easy cleaning.
  • Spill Tray: Catches food spills and protects the cooktop from boil-overs and drips.
  • Illumina™ Burner Control Knobs: Intuitive knobs that glow with a signature flame-white light to indicate when a burner is on.
  • Trim Rings: Located under control knobs, displaying burner and flame settings, including simmer settings.

Other Features

  • Flameless Ignition: Generates a spark to ignite a burner when the knob is turned to the flame icon.
  • Perma-Flame™: Instant re-ignition feature that automatically relights a burner for uninterrupted heating.

Diagram Description: A diagram illustrates the layout of Dacor cooktop burners, identifying them by location (LF, RR, LR, RF, CF, CR) and listing their types and BTU ratings. For example: LF SimmerSear™ Dual Burner (18,000 BTU), RF SimmerSear™ Dual Burner (9,500 BTU), LR SimmerSear™ Dual Burner (9,500 BTU), RR Single Burner (5,000 BTU), CF SimmerSear™ Dual Burner (12,500 BTU), CR SimmerSear™ Dual Burner (12,500 BTU).

Setting Up Your Cooktop

Burner and Grate Assembly

WARNING: Assemble the burners and grates only when the cooktop is cool.

SimmerSear™ Dual and Single Burners: Burner components include the burner assembly (attached to the spill tray) and the burner cap. Place the cap over the assembly, aligning a ridge on the cap with the top of the assembly.

Grates: Gently set the grates on the spill tray, resting the feet in the corresponding dimples.

Diagram Description: Two diagrams show the assembly of burner components: one for a Dual-Burner Assembly and one for a Single-Burner Assembly, illustrating the burner cap fitting onto the burner assembly.

Operating Your Cooktop

Selecting the Cookware

For safety and best performance, select the correct cookware. Improperly selected cookware will not cook food evenly or efficiently.

  • Use cookware that has flat, smooth bottoms.
  • Cookware should be well-balanced.
  • Use tight-fitting lids to keep heat, odors, and steam inside.

IMPORTANT: Avoid spills. Porcelain surfaces are acid-resistant but not acid-proof. Some foods can cause permanent damage if left on porcelain surfaces.

WARNING: To avoid burns and scalding, always turn pan handles to a position where they cannot be easily hit, and do not extend handles over adjacent burners. Always set cookware gently onto the grates and center them for balance. Do not drag cookware across grates, as this may damage the finish. Lift cookware to reposition. Do not drop it on the grate. Cookware with rough bottoms can damage coated grate surfaces.

WARNING: To avoid burns or fire hazard, reduce the flame level if it extends beyond the bottom of the cookware. A flame that extends up the sides of the pan is potentially dangerous.

Lighting a Burner

WARNING: To avoid fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide poisoning, do not use the cooktop without burners completely and correctly assembled. Burner rings must be fully seated for correct lighting and performance.

WARNING: Always light the burner before putting cooking utensil on the grate. Turn the burner knob to OFF before removing cookware. Always check knob positions to ensure the cooktop is off when finished.

WARNING: Do not turn the knob past the HIGH flame mark until lit. Doing so may result in a burst of flame.

WARNING: Do not touch any part of the burner while the igniter is sparking. An electrical shock could result.

WARNING: Never light burners with a match or other open flame.

If the gas does not ignite after four seconds or if the flame goes out and gas escapes, turn the knob to OFF. Open a window and allow at least five minutes for gas to dissipate. Repeat the lighting procedure.

  1. Press the knob that controls the burner and turn it slowly toward the light FLAME icon. The igniter will spark until the flame ignites and then stop sparking.
  2. Once lit, adjust the flame height by turning the control knob. The thickness of the black line under the flame on the trim ring corresponds with the flame height.

SimmerSear™ Burners: When turning the knob to the SIMMER flame level, only one of the two burners is used.

IMPORTANT: When the cooktop is cool, the igniter may continue to spark if the burner knob is set to LOW. The burner will stop sparking when warm. This tendency can be reduced by using the burner at a higher flame for 60 seconds, then lowering it. Placing cookware on the grate warms the burner faster. The igniter sparks automatically if the flame is distorted by a draft or ventilation system; eliminate drafts or reduce ventilation speed. Keep igniters, burner rings, and burner caps clean and dry for proper operation. Dirty or wet igniters cause constant sparking. The flame should burn evenly around the perimeter of the burner.

Burner Knob Icons and Operation

The icons around the knobs indicate burner operation:

  • OFF: Burner is off.
  • Large Flame Icon: High heat setting.
  • Medium Flame Icon: Medium heat setting.
  • Small Flame Icon: Low heat setting.
  • Simmer Flame Icon: Simmer setting (specific to SimmerSear™ burners).

Flame Appearance: A normal flame burns steady and blue. Orange flame during initial use may be due to foreign material in the gas line and will disappear with usage. Small yellow tips on flames are normal with LP gas.

Cooking Tips

  • Boil at the lowest flame necessary; food cooks just as quickly at a gentle boil.
  • Use low or medium flame for cookware that is a poor conductor of heat (glass, ceramic, cast iron). Reduce flame until it spreads approximately 1/3 of the cookware's base for even heating and reduced scorching.
  • Minimize liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
  • Use a timer instead of repeatedly removing the lid.
  • Dacor's SimmerSear™ feature offers precision flame control; larger burners have a wider range.
  • Refer to page 5 for heat ranges of different burners.

Accessories

  • Wok Ring (Part# AWR4): For stir-frying. Place on grate, aligning feet with grate fingers. Holds most standard woks.
  • Griddle (Part# AG13): Non-stick finish for pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. Sits on grates. Use a maximum setting of medium to avoid damage. Refer to griddle instructions or www.dacor.com for details.

Care and Cleaning

WARNING: Clean only specified parts in the specified manner. Use only specified cleaning solutions to avoid dangerous fumes or damage. Turn off burners and ensure parts are cool before cleaning. DO NOT turn burners on during cleaning. Do not use a steam cleaner. Reassemble all burner parts before operating.

CAUTION: Do not use sharp objects to remove heavy spills. Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners (steel wool, scouring pads) unless instructed. Use only a sponge, soft cloth, plastic brush, or nylon cleaning pad. Clean carefully around control valve stems to prevent moisture damage.

CAUTION: Do not soak knobs in water or put them in the dishwasher.

Cleaning the Cooktop

Clean after every use and wipe up spills quickly. Be careful not to touch hot areas. Spills on hot burner parts will burn and be difficult to clean. Certain foods (tomatoes, citrus juices, vinegar, alcohol, milk) can damage finishes if left standing.

IMPORTANT: Cooktop parts are exposed to high temperatures and stress. Porcelain enamel parts may change appearance over time due to these conditions. Careful cleaning slows, but does not eliminate, this aging process.

Disassembly

  1. Disconnect the cooktop power cord.
  2. When cool, remove grates.
  3. Disassemble burners: Lift the burner cap off the burner assembly. Burner assemblies are not removable.

Cleaning the Grates, Spill Trays, and Wok Ring

WARNING: Do not clean grates, burner parts, or wok ring in a dishwasher; they will be damaged.

Grates, spill trays, and wok rings have a porcelain finish.

  • For everyday cleaning, use a soft cloth or nonabrasive pad with warm soapy water.
  • For tough stains, apply full-strength sprays like Simple Green™, Ajax™ All-Purpose Cleaner, or Formula 409™. Use the mildest cleaner needed.
  • For extremely stubborn stains, use a mildly abrasive cleaner or applicator (Soft Scrub™, Bon Ami™, S.O.S.™ pads). Use these carefully and occasionally, as aggressive use will damage the finish. Damage from abrasives is not covered by warranty.

Cleaning the Burners and Igniters

Use care while cleaning igniters; porcelain is fragile.

Igniters must be clean for proper function. Dirty or wet igniters may not spark.

  1. Clean around the igniter, including the metal top and porcelain base. A firm toothbrush is ideal. Do not use water; use a small amount of rubbing alcohol if necessary.
  2. Examine burner heads. Remove anything stuck in the holes with a straightened paper clip or wire. Do not scratch or distort the burner head holes. SimmerSear™ burner heads must be cleaned in place.
  3. Clean all burner parts (bases, heads) with window cleaner or rubbing alcohol using a plastic-bristle brush or toothbrush. Rinse all parts with clean water and dry completely before re-assembly.
  4. Assemble the cooktop according to page 6 instructions. Test burners.

If the flame is uneven, ensure parts are correctly positioned and check for remaining dirt. If erratic clicking persists, ensure the igniter is dry. Contact a Dacor Authorized Service Agent if problems continue.

Cleaning Stainless Steel Surfaces

WARNING: Always wipe stainless steel surfaces with the grain. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers to prevent scratching.

  • Clean stainless steel surfaces with Dacor Stainless Steel Cleaner (Part number A302) from www.everythingdacor.com, following package directions.
  • Alternatively, clean with a mild detergent and warm water solution. Rinse and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Cleaning the Knobs and Trim Rings

Diagram Description: An illustration shows the HDCT304 model with knobs and trim rings. It also shows the process of removing knobs by pulling them straight up. Trim rings can also be removed. The process involves washing them with liquid dish soap. For reassembly, trim rings are placed over valve stems, aligned with the 9 o'clock position of the flame icon, and gently twisted until clasps align. Knobs are then pushed onto the D-shaped valve stem opening.

  1. Turn knobs to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the cooktop power plug.
  3. Grasp each knob and pull straight up to remove.
  4. Remove trim rings for cleaning by grasping and pulling straight up.
  5. Wash knobs and trim rings with liquid dishwashing soap.
  6. Lay trim rings over valve stems. Move flame icon to the 9 o'clock position.
  7. Gently twist until clasps align inside the cylinder and the ring seats into place.
  8. Push firmly into position. Repeat for each trim ring.
  9. To replace knobs, align the "D-shaped" opening on the bottom of the knob with the valve stem end. Push until it stops.
  10. With dry hands, plug the cooktop power cord into an outlet.
