Installation Steps
Step 1: Draw Center Lines
Draw horizontal device and strike center lines (CL). For double doors with a mullion and strike already installed, use the existing strike center line. [RHR/LHR indicators]
Step 2: Prepare Frame for Strike
Prepare frame for strike using paper templates. Refer to pages 9 and 10 for strike templates and frame preparation dimensions. [Diagram showing strike preparation for metal/wood frames with drill bit sizes]
Step 3: Install Strike
Install strike using two screws only at this time. For Panic Devices, install strike 1/16" past the door side of the stop. For Fire Rated Devices, specific strike types (299F, 499F) are mentioned.
Step 4: Install Wear Strip (1439 Strike)
If using a 1439 strike, install the wear strip. Center the wear strip on the strike, mark and drill four 1/8" diameter holes, and install with four flat head drive rivets.
Step 5: Tape Template and Mark Door
Tape the paper template to the door and mark the door cut-out and screw holes. Mark a vertical line X-X for trim alignment. Note: Line X-X is a reference line on the paper template used for trim and exit device alignment.
Step 6: Prepare Lock Side of Door
Prepare the lock side of the door for the device and trim. Refer to trim instructions for pull side door preparation. [Diagram showing drill and cut-out information]
Step 7: Measure and Cut Device
Measure to determine the length to cut the device. Ensure 1-3/16" minimum clearance with the end cap removed. The device should be aligned with mounting holes. Note: If a 5/8" diameter wire access hole is predrilled in the door, cut the device 5/16" from the center of the hole.
Step 8: Cut Device if Necessary
If necessary, cut the device. Prepare the device for cutting by removing the anti-rattle clip and ensuring the cover plate is flush to the pushbar. Cut the device square and remove all burrs. Note: The device must be cut square for proper end cap fit. [Diagram showing cutting the device square]
Step 9: Prepare Cylinder with Tailpiece
If using a cylinder with a tailpiece, prepare the device and cylinder. Cut the tailpiece if needed. Rotate the tailpiece guide to match the tailpiece. [Diagram showing tailpiece preparation]
Step 10: Attach Center Case
Attach the center case to the door. Use trim (optional) or #325 Sex bolts.
Step 11: Install Hinge Stile Mounting Bracket
Install the hinge stile mounting bracket. Mark and prepare two mounting holes. Ensure the mounting bracket is flush and the device is level. Drill holes as specified for wood or metal doors and secure with #425 Sex bolts.
Step 12: Adjust Strike
Adjust strike as needed. Shim strike for 3/16" clearance to the chassis for both 1409 Strike and 299/299F/1606 Strike types.
Step 13: Install Strike Support Screw
Install strike support screw. [Diagram showing screw installation for metal and wood]
Step 14: Install Support Screws and Center Case Cover
Install two support screws and the center case cover. For fire devices only, use #8-32 machine thread screw.
Step 15: Install Support Screws and Center Case Cover
Install two support screws and the center case cover. [Diagram showing end cap installation]
499F Strike Installation
1. Prepare and install screws through two strike slots.
For metal frames, drill and tap 2 places with #7 Drill, 1/4" (6 mm)-20 Tap. For wood frames, drill thru for sex bolts, 2 places with 13/32" (10 mm) drill. Install roller against the door.
2. Install strike hook and additional strike screws.
For metal frames, drill and tap 2 places with #25 Drill, #10-24 Tap. For wood frames, drill and tap 3 places with #25 Drill, #10-24 Tap.
3. Template aligns as shown.
Align template on the center line (CL) and against the strike. Note: If using a mullion, holes may be predrilled.

Strike Frame Preparation and Templates
1439 Strike Frame Preparation
Detailed diagrams provide measurements for cut-outs and drill holes for the 1439 strike on wood and metal frames, including dimensions from the blade stop and door face. [RHR/LHR shown]
299/299F/1606 Strike Template
Diagrams show template placement for 299, 299F, and 1606 strikes on doors and mullions. Instructions include cutting the paper template along a line and placing it on the door stop against the edge of the door. Measurements for drill holes and alignment are provided.
75 Rim Device Template
Detailed templates for the 75 Rim device provide precise measurements for door cut-outs and screw hole locations on both wood and metal doors. Includes reference lines (X-X) for trim and exit device alignment, and guides for aligning with the strike or roller. Specific cut-out depth for wood doors is noted (5/8" deep).
