Roth Basicline H/C 230 V Room Thermostat

User Manual

1. General Notes

Read these instructions carefully before installation and commissioning to ensure correct use! The unit may only be operated in the manner described. Any use under other conditions is not permitted and excludes liability for any resulting damage.

The appliance may only be operated with the accessories recommended in this manual.

The unit may only be cleaned when closed with a dry cloth.

2. Meaning of Symbols

Safety instructions are highlighted by a warning triangle and, depending on the degree of danger, are displayed as follows:

Attention! General danger zone. Death, serious bodily injury or considerable damage to property can occur if appropriate precautions are not taken!

Danger from electric current Warning of dangerous voltage or current.

3. Application

The electronic Basicline H/C 230 V room thermostat is designed for room temperature-dependent regulation of heating and cooling equipment in dry, closed areas.

4. Function

The room temperature is measured by the internal or external temperature sensor. The desired room temperature is set using the [rotary knob] to a value between 5 °C and 30 °C (scale-digits 1-6).

The internal light-emitting diodes [LEDs] indicate the energy demand.

An input [Change-Over input] allows switching to cooling mode by connecting L-potential (230 V).

An [Energy saving input] allows the setpoint to be lowered (heating mode) or increased (cooling mode) using a suitable control device (clock thermostat) or an external clock.

4.1 Heating

The output is activated when the room temperature falls below the setpoint. The red [LED] signals the energy demand. Active lowering reduces the setpoint by approximately 2 K.

4.2 Cooling

The output is activated when the room temperature rises above the setpoint. The blue [LED] signals the energy demand. The active energy saving input raises the setpoint by approximately 2 K.

5. Installation and Electrical Connection

The connection and service must only be performed by authorized personnel!

Connection errors can lead to damage of the control unit! No liability is accepted for damages resulting from incorrect connection and/or improper handling!

The connection of the control unit requires an all-pole switch/circuit breaker in the building installation. It must be marked as a disconnecting device for the unit. This switch must be suitably located and easily accessible to the user.

Before working on the unit, switch off all poles of the cables.

The device is intended only for connection to permanent wiring in dry, closed rooms.

The control unit must be mounted so that it can measure the average room temperature. Avoid the vicinity of inlet and outlet air channels, windows, and doors. Install on interior walls approximately 1.3 to 1.5 m above the floor and avoid direct sunlight.

Observe VDE 0100 and the regulations of the local power utility company.

Devices with safety extra-low voltage (SELV) must not be connected.

The connection must be made according to the provided schematic diagram.

The same phase (L) must be used for the power supply (terminal 3), the heating/cooling changeover (terminal 1), and the lowering function (terminal 6).

If the device does not function, first check the correct connection and the power supply.

5.1 External Sensor (optional)

Only RFK 133/4 or RFW 103 sensors may be used.

The sensor wire is live. Double insulation / dielectric strength up to 3 kV must therefore be used! Observe the corresponding installation regulations.

To avoid interference, the sensor wire should not be laid together with other conducting wires.

If the external sensor is used as a floor sensor, it must be installed in a conduit. If an open conduit is used, it must be closed with plugs to prevent tile cement or screed from entering the conduit.

5.2 Cooling Lock Function

The [slide switch S2] in the device allows selection of whether the cooling mode is deactivated. Factory setting is cooling mode activated (slide switch S2 at position 0, see adjacent drawing).

Cooling activated: [slide switch S2] at position 0.

Cooling deactivated: [slide switch S2] at position 1.

5.3 Internal/External Temperature Sensor Changeover

The [slide switch S1] in the device allows selection of whether the room temperature is measured by the internal or external temperature sensor. Factory setting is the internal temperature sensor active (S1 slide switch position as shown).

If the temperature is to be measured with the external sensor RFK 133/4 (Mat.-Nr. 1135006690) or RFW 103 (Mat.-Nr. 1135006689) (please order separately), the slide switch must be moved to the right. The external sensor is to be connected to terminals 7 and 8 (see connection diagram).

Internal sensor: [slide switch S1] in internal sensor position.

External sensor: [slide switch S1] moved to external sensor position.
