Installation Steps
1. Determine Handing
The hand of a door is determined from the secure side of the door. The term "secure" means the side from which you unlock and enter.
Diagram Description: A mortise lock mechanism is shown. Key components labeled include the Deadbolt and Latchbolt. The Latchbolt has a beveled edge that must face the strike. The RED Locking Slide should face the secure side of the door.
A key cylinder is used for cylinder option installation. A thumbturn is used when the mortise lock is equipped with a deadbolt.
2. Hand Latchbolt & Hubs (If Necessary)
This step involves adjusting the latchbolt and hubs.
Diagram Description: The process of adjusting the latchbolt is illustrated. It involves inserting a flat head screwdriver to pry the latch head up and rotating it to the correct orientation. Another part of the diagram shows pushing the locking slide to rotate it, ensuring the red mark on the locking slide is on the secure side of the door.
- Insert flat head screwdriver to pry latch head up. Rotate latch head to correct orientation.
- Push away from square hole to create gap. Check for free movement of locking slide.
- Push in causing locking slide to rotate.
- Continue to rotate locking slide from the other side until it is "set" in position.
- The RED MARK on the locking slide must be on the secure side of the door.
3. Prepare Door
Diagram Description: This section shows drilling procedures for the door. It illustrates drilling through holes 1/2 way through the door and then completing from the other side to prevent splitting.
Outside of Door:
- Mortise Key Cylinder Hole: Drill only 1/2 way into the door ONLY if the lock is equipped with a cylinder.
Inside of Door:
- Mortise Lock Cable Hole: Drill only 1/2 way into the door (7/8" depth) then STOP!
- Mortise Deadbolt Thumbturn Hole: Drill only 1/2 way into the door ONLY if the lock is equipped with a deadbolt.
4. Prepare Frame & Install Strike
Hardware: 2 x #12-24x1" Flat Head Combo Screw.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the preparation of the door frame and the installation of the strike plate. It indicates that this preparation is standard with or without a deadbolt.
Use a #3 Phillips head screwdriver (?) for installation. An optional strike box can be used.
5. Install Mortise Lock
Hardware: 2 x #12-24x1" Flat Head Combo Screw.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the insertion of the mortise lock into the door pocket from the inside of the door.
Ensure the mortise pocket is free from debris. Do not tighten screws until Step 10. Use a #3 Philips head screwdriver (?).
6. Install Key Cylinder (if applicable)
For Cylinder Option ONLY
Diagram Description: The diagrams show the process of installing the key cylinder into the lock from the outside of the door.
It may be necessary to loosen the cylinder set screw before installing the cylinder. Hand tighten the cylinder until it is snug against the door with the Accentra logo horizontal. Use a #2 Philips head screwdriver (?) to tighten the cylinder set screw.
Test Operation: Ensure the cylinder operates correctly.
7. Install Rose Trim - all types
Instructions: Adjusting for 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" Door (if necessary). Use the screw pack for thicker doors at this step. Use appropriate fastener lengths to ensure proper installation.
Hardware: 2 x #8-32x1" Pan Head Screw with Thread Locker (For 1-3/4" Door).
Diagram Description: The diagram shows how to attach the rose trim to the lock mechanism on both the inside and outside of the door.
Tighten screws securely, but avoid overtightening and warping the door. Use a #2 Philips head screwdriver (?).
8. Prepare Levers
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the inside spindle and the inside and outside levers.
Loosen the Inside Spindle 1/2 to 1 turn until the Correct Orientation is achieved.
9. Install Levers
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates pushing the levers together and securing them with a set screw.
Pushing levers together, use a hex wrench (? 3/32") to tighten the set screw securely against the spindle.
10. Install Thumbturn (if applicable)
For Deadbolt Option ONLY
Hardware: 2 x #6x3/8" Oval Head Screw.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the installation of the thumbturn on the inside of the lock mechanism.
Use a #2 Philips head screwdriver (?).
Test Operation: The deadbolt retracts and extends by thumbturn and key. Once extended, it will also retract by lever. The latchbolt retracts and extends by levers and key.
11. Install Armor Front
Hardware: 2 x 8x32-1/4" Flat Head Screw.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows attaching the armor front plate to the lock assembly.
The Accentra logo will be at the top and visible when installed. Tighten lockbody screws before installation of the front. Do not bow the front of the lock case by overtightening. Use a #2 Philips head screwdriver (?).
Test Operation Again: Perform a final test of the lock's operation.
12. Install Keypad
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the keypad unit and its connection to the inside lock mechanism via a cable.
13. Install Inside Mounting Plate
