This guide provides instructions for setting up and using your PlayStation®5 console.
1. Attach the Stand
Secure the stand to the console in either the vertical or horizontal position. Reconfigure the stand based on the console's orientation by rotating the top and bottom parts in opposite directions until you hear a click.
For Vertical Position:
- Place the console with its back facing up and remove the screw hole cover.
- Attach the screw hole cover to the bottom of the stand.
- Remove the screw from the bottom of the stand.
- Attach the stand and secure it with the screw. Use a coin or similar object to tighten the screw. Ensure the hook is in the illustrated position before attaching the stand to the console.
For Horizontal Position:
- Ensure the hook is in the illustrated position before attaching the stand to the console.
- Place the console with its back facing up. Align the stand with the marked area on the console and push the stand down firmly.
2. Connect the HDMI and AC Power Cables
Use the supplied cables. Make all connections before plugging the AC power cord into an electrical outlet.
Connect the HDMI cable from the console's HDMI OUT port to your TV's HDMI IN port. Connect the AC power cable to the AC IN connector on the console and then to a power outlet.
3. Connect the LAN Cable (Optional)
For a wired internet connection, use a LAN cable (not included). If you are using a Wi-Fi® connection, do not connect a LAN cable and proceed to the next step.
4. Turn on the TV and Set the Input to HDMI
Ensure your TV is set to the correct HDMI input source.
5. Turn on the PlayStation®5 Console
Press the Power button ⌂ on the console. The power indicator will blink blue and then turn white. If the console is left idle for 60 seconds after powering on, the screen reader will activate, reading text and important information aloud. The screen reader is available in certain languages.
6. Connect the Wireless Controller to the Console via USB Cable and Press the ⏹ (PS) Button
To pair the controller, connect it using a USB cable to the console's USB port. Pressing the ⏹ (PS) button will turn on the controller.
7. Customize Settings
Follow the on-screen instructions to:
- Set up the console: Select your language, configure internet connection settings, and manage power-saving settings. The console is set to Low Power Consumption in rest mode to save energy when not in use.
- Set up your account: Create a new account or sign in with an existing one, such as one created on a PlayStation®4 console.
- Download your content: Download purchased games and media apps for PS5™. You can transfer data to your PS5 console if you own a PS4™ console.
Once setup is complete, a Welcome to PlayStation 5 message will appear. If the PS5 console will be used by a child, refer to the 'Content Filter' section.
Setup options are personalized based on your network environment and account.
You can change settings by selecting Settings ⚙️ from the main screen.
For PS4 Users:
- Play select PS4™ titles on your PS5 console: Play supported PS4™ titles on your PS5 console. Some features available on the PS4™ console may not be available when playing on the PS5 console. You need to update to the latest system software. An internet connection is required.

You can continue to use a USB drive used as extended storage for your PS4™ console by connecting it to your PS5™ console.
- Use the same account you created on a PS4™ console: You do not need to create a new account for your PS5™ console. Simply sign in with your existing account, and your game history, trophies, profile, and friend conversations will transfer to your PS5™ console.
Content Filter:
You can manage settings for minors using the PS5 console. The content filter allows you to set restrictions on games children can play, when and for how long, who they can communicate with, and more. Each adult (☐) and child (☐) will need their own account. When you create an account for a minor, it is automatically linked to your account, creating a family. You can only set the content filter for children in your family. For your PS5 console, you can use an existing account, such as one created on a PS4™ console. Family and content filter settings will apply to your PS5™ console.
Creating an Account for a Minor:
You can create an account for a minor and set up the content filter at the same time. Press the ⏹ (PS) button to access the Control Center. Select your profile picture, then select Switch User. From the user selection screen, select Add User to create an account.
Checking and Changing Content Filter Settings:
It is recommended to regularly check the minor's content filter. You can check or update settings by selecting Settings ⚙️ > Family and Content Filter from the main screen.
