Getting Started
1. Attach the stand.
Always attach the stand to the console in either the vertical or horizontal position. Place the console on a stable, flat surface when attaching the stand. The stand needs to be reconfigured for the console. Rotate the top and bottom pieces of the stand in opposite directions. Continue rotating until you hear a click.
For Vertical Position
With the stand attached, ensure the hook is in the position shown in the image below before attaching the stand to the console. Place the console with its back facing up and remove the screw cover. Attach the screw cover to the bottom of the stand. Remove the screw from the bottom of the stand. Attach the stand, then secure it with the screw. Use a coin or similar object to tighten the screw.
For Horizontal Position
Before attaching the stand to the console, ensure the hook is in the position shown in the image below. Place the console with its back facing up. Align the stand with the marked area on the console and press firmly.
2. Connect the HDMI cable and AC power cord.
Use the supplied cables. Connect all cables before plugging the AC power cord into a power outlet.
3. Connect a LAN cable.
For a wired internet connection, use a LAN cable (not supplied). If you will connect via Wi-Fi®, do not connect the LAN cable and proceed to the next step.
4. Turn on your TV and set the input to HDMI.
5. Turn on your PlayStation®5 console by pressing the Power button.
The power indicator will blink blue, then turn white. If you leave the console in rest mode for 60 seconds after powering on, the screen reader will turn on. You can listen to on-screen text and other important information to get the help you need. The screen reader is only available for certain languages.
6. Connect your wireless controller to the console using a USB cable, then press the PS button ⚙️.
To pair your controller, connect it with a USB cable to a USB port on your console. The controller will light up when you press the PS button ⚙️.
7. Customize it to your liking.
You're almost done! Follow the on-screen instructions to:
- Set up your console: Select your language, configure internet connection settings, and manage power saving settings. For power saving in rest mode, your console is set to *Low Power Use* mode. Refer to "Setting up your console for rest mode" (page 12).
- Set up your account: Create a new account or sign in with an existing one, such as an account you created on a PlayStation®4 console. Refer to "For PS4 console users" (page 6).
- Download content: Download purchased PS5™ games and media apps. If you have a PS4™ console, you can transfer data to your PS5™ console.
Setup is complete when the *Welcome to PlayStation 5* message appears on the screen. Will your PS5™ console be used by children? Refer to "Parental Controls" (page 6). The setup options you see are tailored to your needs and based on data such as your network environment and the account you're signed in with. You can go back and change any setting by selecting the *Settings* icon on the home screen.
For PS4 Console Users
Playing some PS4™ games on your PS5™ console
Enjoy supported PS4™ games on your PS5™ console. Some features available on PS4™ may not be available on PS5™. System software update required. Internet connection required.
Transferring data from your PS4™ console to your PS5™ console
Connect your PS4™ console and PS5™ console to the same network to transfer data such as game save data, user information, and downloaded content. If you have a USB drive that you use as extended storage for your PS4™ console, you can continue to use it by connecting it to your PS5™ console.
Using the same account you created for your PS4™ console
You don't need to create a new account for your PS5™ console. Just sign in with your existing account, and your games, trophies, profile, and any interactions you've had with friends will carry over to your PS5™ console.
Parental Controls
You can manage settings for children using your PS5™ console. Parental controls allow you to set limits on the games children can play, when and how much they can play, who they communicate with, and more. Each adult ☑ and child ☐ will need separate accounts. When you create an account for a child, it's automatically linked to your account, creating a family. You can only set parental controls for children in your family. You can use an existing account, such as one created on a PS4™ console, for your PS5™ console. Family and parental control settings will carry over to your PS5™ console.
