Dash Disassembly
2004-2006 LAND ROVER FREELANDER
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit.
- Put gear shifter into neutral position then remove shift knob. (Figure A: Shows the gear shifter in the neutral position.)
- Unclip and remove gear shifter trim panel. (Figure B: Illustrates unlatching the gear shifter trim panel.)
- Unclip and remove rear ashtray panel from back of center console. (Figure C: Depicts removing the rear ashtray panel from the back of the center console.)
- Open center console lid and remove cubby box. (Figure D: Shows the center console lid opened and the cubby box being lifted out.)
- Remove the (2) screws securing the rear of the center console. (Figure E: Highlights the two screws securing the rear of the center console.)
- Remove the screw cover in front of the window switches then remove the (2) screws exposed underneath. (Figure F: Shows the removal of a screw cover in front of the window switches, revealing two screws underneath.)
- Unclip and remove the upper console finisher panel between the a/c vents and radio. (Figure G: Illustrates unlatching the upper console finisher panel located between the air conditioning vents and the radio.)
- Remove the (4) screws securing the center console. (Figure H: Indicates the four screws securing the center console and the two screws securing the radio.)
Kit Assembly

DIN HEAD UNIT PROVISION
- Slide the DIN cage into the Radio Housing and secure by bending the metal locking tabs down. (Figure A: Shows the process of sliding the DIN cage into the radio housing and bending the metal locking tabs downwards.)
- Slide the aftermarket head unit into the DIN cage until secure. (Figure B: Depicts sliding an aftermarket head unit into the secured DIN cage.)
- Slide the included pocket into the Radio Housing until secure. (Figure C: Illustrates sliding the pocket into the radio housing.)
- Install kit assembly into dash.

Instructions
- Locate the factory wiring harness in the dash. Metra recommends using the proper mating adapter and making connections as shown. (Isolate and individually tape off the ends of any unused wires to prevent electrical short circuit.)
- Re-connect the negative battery terminal and test the unit for proper operation.
- Reassemble radio and dash assemblies in reverse order of disassembly.
Final Wiring Connections
Make wiring connections using the EIA color code chart shown below and the instructions included with the head unit. Metra recommends making connections as shown below; Strip, Splice, Solder, Tape. Isolate and individually tape off ends of any unused wires to prevent electrical short circuit.
