What is a Programmer?

Programmers allow you to set 'On' and 'Off' time periods for your heating and domestic hot water. Some models switch both simultaneously, while others allow independent control. You can set these periods to suit your lifestyle. Some programmers also allow you to choose between continuous running, timed periods, or being permanently off.

The time on the programmer must be correct, especially during the transitions between Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time. Temporary adjustments like 'Override', 'Advance', or 'Boost' may be available, as explained in the manufacturer's instructions.

Please note: The heating will not operate if the room thermostat has switched it off. Similarly, water heating will not function if the cylinder thermostat detects the correct temperature has been reached.

A timeswitch, like the TS715Si, is a single channel programmer, allowing you to set your system's On and Off periods.

1.0 User Instructions

1.1 Your Timeswitch

The TS715 Si allows you to switch your system on and off at times that suit you. You can programme up to 3 separate ON/OFF times per day.

1.2 Preset Programmes

The TS715 Si comes ready programmed with operating times that suit most users:

* Not applicable if unit set to 2 ON/OFFs per day by installer.
** Not applicable if unit set to 24 hour mode by installer.

If you wish to change these settings, follow the instructions on pages 9-14. First, ensure the correct time and date are set (pages 7-8).

1.3 Before you start

To prepare the unit, open the flap on the front. Press the RESET button using a non-metallic object (e.g., pencil/matchstick) until a click is heard and the red light on the front illuminates, then the LCD goes blank. This action reinstates preset programmes and sets the correct day and time.

For a full reset, see page 19.

1.4 Choice of 24hr or AM/PM display

To toggle between 24-hour clock and AM/PM display, press and hold the DAY/HOL and NEXT ON/OFF buttons for 2 seconds.

1.5 Setting the Date and Time

These settings are usually made during manufacture and only need changing if the unit loses its settings.

Setting the Date

To set the year, press and hold PROG for 5 seconds. Use the '+' or '-' buttons to adjust the year. Then, press DAY/HOL to display the day and month. Use the '+' or '-' buttons to set the correct month (e.g., Jan = 1, Feb = 2). Press DAY/HOL again to display the day of the month and use the '+' or '-' buttons to set it.

Setting the Time

Press PROG to display the time. The words 'SET TIME' will appear, and the time will flash. Use the '+' or '-' buttons to set the correct time. Pressing and holding these buttons will change the time in 10-minute increments.

The day of the week is set automatically.

1.6 Accepting the preset programmes

If the preset programmes are suitable, no further action is needed. To accept them, press the PROG button once until the time appears and the colon in the display begins to flash. Your unit is now in RUN mode and will operate according to the preset programmes.

1.7 Before you change the preset programmes

Your installer will have set your unit to operate in one of the following modes:

  • 5/2 day: One set of programmes for weekdays and another for weekends (pages 10-11).
  • 7 day: Different settings for each day of the week (pages 11-12).
  • 24 hour: One set of programmes for the whole week (page 13).

Check the 'INSTALLER SETTING' tick box on the inside flap label to determine your unit's mode.

Your installer may have set the unit for 2 or 3 ON/OFF periods per day. If you do not wish to use one of the ON/OFF settings, set the ON time to be the same as the OFF time; the setting will then not operate.

1.8 Running Your Programme

To run the programme, press the SELECT button. Each press of the SELECT button cycles the display through ON, OFF, ALLDAY, and AUTO modes:

  • AUTO: The system will come on and go off at the programmed times.
  • ON: The system will remain on constantly.
  • OFF: The system will not come on.
  • ALLDAY: The clock will turn the system on at the first programmed ON time and keep it on until the last programmed OFF time.

Select the option required based on your circumstances, time of year, etc.

2.0 Advanced Settings

2.1 Temporary Override Buttons

The TS715 Si offers two convenient overrides for temporary changes, such as during unusually cold weather, without affecting the set programme.

  • +1HR: When the unit is in AUTO or ALLDAY mode, pressing this button keeps the system on for an extra hour. If pressed while the programme is OFF, the system will turn on for 1 hour and then turn off again. '+1HR' will be displayed.
  • MAN: When the unit is in AUTO or ALLDAY mode, pressing this button turns the system OFF until the next programmed ON time. Conversely, if the system is OFF, pressing MAN turns it ON. 'MAN' will be displayed.

2.2 Holiday Programme

The TS715-Si features a holiday function to automatically bring the heating back on when you return from holiday. Follow these steps to set the date the system should resume operation:

  1. Press DAY/HOL.
  2. Use the '+' or '-' buttons to select the year.
  3. Press DAY/HOL, then use the '+' or '-' buttons to select the month.
  4. Press DAY/HOL again, then use the '+' or '-' buttons to select the day of the month.
  5. Press DAY/HOL to turn heating off and enter holiday mode.

To cancel holiday mode, press DAY/HOL.

2.3 Changing Clocks Forward and Backward

This function is usually handled automatically. If your installer has disabled Automatic Time Change, follow these instructions:

Open the flap on the front of the unit to reveal the programming buttons.

  • To change from Summer to Winter (clocks back): Press and hold the '-' button.
  • To change from Winter to Summer (clocks forward): Press and hold the '+' button.

⚠️ Take care when making this change for the first time. If it is made in the wrong direction, the unit will need to be reset, and all user settings re-entered. Refer to pages 7-8 for instructions on resetting the unit and setting the date, time, and day.

2.4 Service Interval Timer

This feature may be set by your installer for gas safety reasons, especially if the property is landlord-owned.

  • If set, 28 days before the boiler service is due, a momentary visual and audible warning will alert you that the boiler needs servicing within the next 28 days. This warning repeats daily at noon.
  • If the boiler is not serviced within 28 days, a daily audible warning will sound for 1 minute at the beginning of each hour. This warning must be cancelled daily by pressing any button on the unit.
  • In addition, all override and programming buttons will be disabled, and the heating and hot water will operate only for a set portion of each programmed hour.
  • The installer will cancel or reset the service interval timer as part of the boiler service.
  • This is a gas safety feature accessible only by an installer.
  • When the service interval timer is set, the service due date can be viewed in RUN mode by pressing and holding the COPY button.

2.5 Making a Full Reset

If a full reset of the unit is necessary (excluding date and time), follow these instructions:

  1. Press and hold the +1HR and MAN buttons on the left side of the unit.
  2. Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.
  3. Release the RESET button. The display will change to show the current time.
  4. Finally, release both the +1HR and MAN buttons.

The unit is now fully reset and requires reprogramming (see pages 10-14).
