User Instructions
CAUTION: The unit operates at mains voltage and should only be opened by a qualified engineer after disconnection from the mains supply.
Model 841 Control Panel Description:
Features a liquid crystal display (LCD) showing Day and Time. Below the display are 10 numeric keypads (0-9), 3 function keypads (e.g., Set Time, Set Programme, Verify), a 3-position keyswitch (Auto/Off/Manual), and a 3-position selector switch.
Model 842 Control Panel Description:
Features a liquid crystal display (LCD) showing Day and Time. Below the display are 10 numeric keypads (0-9), 3 function keypads (e.g., Set Time, Set Ch.1, Set Ch.2, Verify, Cancel), a 3-position keyswitch (Auto/Off/Manual), and two 3-position selector switches (one for each channel).
DESCRIPTION
Model 841 is a single channel unit. Model 842 is a two channel unit. The two channels operate totally independently of each other and can have different programmes set. Both models share common features.
The Day and Time are displayed as five digits on the liquid crystal display (LCD). The first digit, marked 'Day', is numerical (1-7), assignable at the user's discretion (conventionally Monday = 1, Sunday = 7). The remaining four digits, marked 'Time', display the time with a resolution of one minute (0000 to 2359).
A short 'bleep' is heard when a keypad is pressed. Numeric keypad presses cause the associated digit on the LCD to blink or change.
The 3-position selector switch (one for each channel on Model 842) can be set to 'Off' to override programmes, 'Auto' to follow programmes, or 'Manual' for continuous ON (while held down).
The output status indicator light illuminates when the selector switch is at 'Auto' and a programme event occurs, or when the selector switch is held in the 'Manual' position.
The unit can be configured at installation for an ON duration from 1 to 15 seconds in half-second pulses, or a continuous pulse. For Model 842, each channel can be set to different pulse types but of the same duration.
It is recommended that the key be removed from the keyswitch when in the 'Run' position to prevent unauthorized or accidental changes to settings.
TIME OF DAY
To set the time, the mains electricity supply must be ON, the key inserted, and turned to the 'Set Time' position.
Initially, or after a full battery discharge and mains power restoration, the display shows ' - - - - - '. Decide which day of the week you wish to assign as Day 1, then press the corresponding number key (listen for the 'bleep').
Key in the time using the four numeric keypads. For example, 8:30 a.m. is keyed as 0830, and 6:15 p.m. is keyed as 1815.
The unit rejects invalid day or time entries (e.g., day 8, time 3600). Out-of-range key presses will not register; the LCD digit will blink until an acceptable number is keyed. Do not press any function keypads during time entry.
Returning the key to the 'Run' position enters the displayed time.
SETTING SWITCHING TIMES
The mains electricity supply must be ON, the key inserted, and turned to either the 'Set Programme' position (Model 841) or 'Set Channel 1' position (Model 842) before setting programmes.
Initially, the display shows 'E EEEE', indicating that the memory is empty.
The timeswitch can automatically carry out up to 200 switching operations. It is recommended to tabulate the required programme before setting. The day number displayed corresponds to the current day of the week.
Programmes are automatically sorted into chronological order. To set a programme event:
- Press the number key representing the day of the week.
- Key in the time using four numeric keypads (0000 to 2359).
- Press 'Enter' to save the event.
Invalid day or time entries are rejected. If an attempt is made to exceed 200 programme events, the display shows 'F FFFF'. If an incorrect key is pressed, press 'Cancel' and restart the sequence.
Keyring Simplification: Key in the first event using the normal sequence. Then, key in the new day number and press 'Enter' to copy the event.
For Model 842: After setting Channel 1, turn the key to 'Set Channel 2' and enter the programme for that channel.
Note: Common event times on both channels count as a single switching operation.
Verification: Press the 'Verify' key to advance the programme by one event for chronological review. To review a specific day's programme, key the day number followed by '0000' and 'Verify'.
Clearing Events: To clear unwanted events, advance to the event using 'Verify' and then press 'Cancel'.
Clearing Entire Programme: Press and hold the 'Cancel' key for approximately 3 seconds until the display shows 'E EEEE'.
Upon completion of programming, return the key to 'Run' and the selector switch(es) to 'Auto'.

BATTERY RESERVE
The unit does not rely on the internal battery to operate when mains power is connected. The battery's purpose is to memorize the Time of Day and selected Switching Times in the event of a power failure or disconnection of supply.
When first connected, the unit requires a minimum of 24 hours to charge sufficiently for this memory function. The battery is automatically recharged thereafter.
If the mains power supply is lost, the unit's display will go out. The battery will maintain the memory for up to 3 months. When power is restored, the unit will automatically switch on and resume the set programme without needing any resetting.
