Installation
The Danfoss 102 programmer consists of a plug-in module and a wallplate/terminal block. For Factory Replacement Units (FRU), proceed directly to step 4 on page 5.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the programmer unit with labels pointing to the 'Pre-Selector wheel' (top right), 'Selector switch' (side), 'Plug-in replacement module' (main unit), and 'Wallplate/Terminal block' (base, not with FRU units).
- Loosen the fixing screw at the base of the unit to release the grey plastic Wiring Cover. Ensure the protective tape over the thumbwheel remains in place.
- Holding the unit clockface downwards, press firmly in the centre of the wallplate and slide the unit from the module. Diagram Description: An illustration shows hands detaching the programmer module from the wallplate/terminal block, with arrows indicating the direction of movement. Labels point to 'wallplate/terminal block' and 'plug-in module'.
- Fix the Wallplate/Terminal Block to the wall using countersunk No.8 woodscrews or to a steel box to BS 4662. 1970, or a surface mounting steel or moulded box with fixing centres of 23/8" (60.3mm).
- Referring to the Wiring Diagrams on page 6, connect the unit as shown. For Mains Voltage applications, ensure that terminals 3 and 6 are linked with insulated cable capable of carrying full load current.
- Ensure all dust and debris is cleared from the area. Plug the module firmly into the wallplate, ensuring the hook at the top of the wallplate engages with the slot at the back of the body. Press the module down until it locates solidly.
- If necessary, cut a cable aperture in the Wiring Cover, replace the Wiring Cover, and tighten the fixing screw.
- Switch on Mains and test for correct operation:
- Remove protective tape from the pre-selector wheel.
- Remove the dial cover and rotate the clock dial two complete revolutions to clear the mechanism.
- Check that all positions of the Selector Switch and Tappets operate correctly. (Refer to the User Booklet for detailed instructions.)
- Replace the dial cover. Leave this booklet, containing the USER instructions, with the Householder.
- If the unit is to be left turned off and is in a dusty atmosphere, protect the pre-selector wheel by re-affixing the protective tape.
IMPORTANT: Remove tape prior to putting unit into service.
Wiring
Diagram Description: The document includes wiring diagrams for the Danfoss 102 programmer, illustrating terminal connections for various heating system configurations.
Top Schematic: Shows the TIMER unit connected to terminals 1 (DHW), 2 (HTG), 3 (COM), 5 (N), and 6 (L). A switch labeled N/O (Normally Open) is shown in series with the timer's output. Mains supply (L, N) is indicated.
Left Wiring Diagram (102 Terminals): Depicts a typical domestic gas or oil fired system with gravity hot water and pumped heating. Terminals are connected to a Room Stat (Call, Com, N), a Pump (L, N), and a Boiler (L, N). A link is shown between terminals 3 and 5. Mains supply (L, N) is connected.
Right Wiring Diagram (102 Terminals): Illustrates a fully pumped system with a cylinder stat and a room stat. Terminals are connected to a Room Stat (Call, Com, N), a Cylinder Stat (L641A, Orange), a Motor (Brown, Blue, Grey), and a zone valve (HP2 spring return zone valve). A link is shown between terminals 3 and 5. Mains supply (L, N) is connected.
User Instructions
Your programmer
The Danfoss 102 mini-programmer allows you to switch your heating and hot water on and off at times that suit your schedule. Normally, the 102 provides 2 ON periods and 2 OFF periods each day. It is possible to achieve 1 ON and 1 OFF period by using the Pre-Selector Wheel (refer to page 11). You can select whether the 102 controls your hot water and heating together, just the hot water, or neither system (OFF) using the manual rocker switch.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the programmer unit with labels pointing to the 'Dial cover', 'Wiring cover', 'Preselector wheel', and 'Rocker switch to manually select programme operation'.
Setting the time of day
The dial on the front of the 102 displays the hours of the day using a 24-hour clock.
- Remove the dial cover by turning it slightly to the left and pulling it off. Diagram Description: An illustration shows a hand turning the dial cover counter-clockwise and pulling it off, with an arrow pointing to the 'TIME mark' on the dial.
- Turn the dial clockwise until the correct time is aligned with the TIME mark.
Important Note: Turn the dial clockwise only.
Remember: You will need to re-set the time after a power cut, and also when clocks change for daylight saving (Spring and Autumn).
Setting the programme (Tappets A, B, C, D)
- If not already done, remove the dial cover (turn slightly to the left and pull off).
- Decide when you want your hot water and heating to come on and go off. While gripping the dial knob, slide the RED tappets to the required ON times and the BLUE tappets to the required OFF times. Note that the tappets may be stiff to move.
Note: Tappets can be moved around the dial in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction, as convenient.
Example: If you want your system ON between 8 am and 10 am, and again between 4 pm and 11 pm, set the tappets as follows: (A to 8, B to 10, C to 16, D to 23).
Tappet Key:
- A = 1st ON
- B = 1st OFF
- C = 2nd ON
- D = 2nd OFF
Reminder: Red tappets (A and C) switch ON; Blue tappets (B and D) switch OFF.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows hands adjusting the red and blue tappets on the programmer's dial to set specific ON and OFF times.
- Ensure that the installer has removed the protective tape covering the pre-selector wheel.
- Using the dial knob, rotate the dial completely at least twice, clockwise only, to clear the mechanism.
Selecting operating mode
The rocker switch on the side of the unit is used to select how your 102 controls your hot water and heating system. You can manually select one of the following:
- Hot water only
- Hot water & heating together
- Neither (system OFF)
Diagram Description: Illustrations show the different positions of the rocker switch:
- 'Hot water only' position.
- 'System OFF' position.
- 'Heating & Hot Water together' position.
The 102 unit is now set. The current status of the mini-programmer can be seen on the wheel at the top righthand corner of the unit (e.g., "OFF UNTIL C").
Overriding the programme using the Pre-Selector wheel
The pre-selector wheel can be used to override the set programme on occasions when you need to change from your normal heating routine. By turning the wheel anti-clockwise, you can turn the unit ON when it is OFF, and vice versa.
Example: Your programme is set so that your heating comes on at 4 pm, but you arrive home earlier, at 2 pm, and need the heating ON immediately. Turn the wheel anti-clockwise until it displays "ON UNTIL D" as shown. The system will be turned ON manually at 2 pm but will revert to the set programme at the next operation (i.e., OFF at 11 pm).
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the pre-selector wheel being turned anti-clockwise, with text indicating "ON UNTIL D".
Some other useful pre-selections:
- ALL DAY ON (1 ON/1 OFF): Turn the Wheel to display "ON UNTIL D".
- ALL DAY OFF: Turn the Wheel to display "OFF UNTIL A".
Note: Do not operate the pre-selector whilst a tappet is close to the TIME mark. This may cause the time of day setting of the clock to be altered, and the time would then need to be reset as shown on page 8.
