The Dyson V16 Piston Animal vacuum cleaner comes with various tools and accessories to help you clean your home effectively. Below is a list of included items:
- Vacuum cleaner: The main unit with built-in tool, battery, and bin attached.
- All Floor ConesTM Sense cleaner head: Intelligently detects floor type to adjust performance for deep cleans on carpets and delicate cleaning on hard floors.
- Main body: Features an in-built tool for handheld cleaning and another on the end of the wand for cleaning high and low areas.
- Hair screw tool 2.0: An anti-tangle conical brush bar that spirals hair off and into the bin, designed for motor-driven cleaning in smaller spaces.
- Combi tool: A two-in-one tool with a wide nozzle and brush for quick switching between cleaning and dusting tasks.
- Crevice tool: Engineered for precise cleaning in tricky edges and hard-to-reach narrow spaces.
- Charger: Used to charge your vacuum, with or without the wall dock.
- Wall dock: A wall-mounted charging dock that holds the vacuum and up to two attachments, keeping them ready for use.
- Wand with remote release and built-in-tool: Allows quick tool changes. Press the red button to easily release the wand and access the in-built handheld tool.
- Scratch-free dusting brush: Gentle on delicate surfaces, with a rotating cuff to keep soft bristles clear of dust.
- Stubborn dirt brush: Features stiff nylon bristles to dislodge ground-in dirt from coarse carpets, high traffic areas, and car interiors.
- Flexi hose tool: Adds up to 75cm of flexible reach, with a built-in tool for cleaning high or low areas in your home or car.
- Pet groom tool: Removes hair as you groom, preventing it from spreading around your home. Angled bristles self-clean instantly.
- Awkward gap tool 2.0: A long, slim tool with a 22-degree twist for cleaning tight gaps and hard-to-reach places.
- Low-reach adaptor tool: Engineered to clean further under low furniture by adjusting the wand angle up to 90 degrees. Includes a new in-built tool for quicker cleans.
- Mattress tool 2.0: Re-engineered to remove more dust, hair, allergens, and dust mites from mattresses and upholstery.
- SubmarineTM 2.0 wet roller head: Removes spills and stains from hard floors with hydration level control.

Getting started
This section guides you through the initial setup and operation of your Dyson V16 Piston Animal.
Using the LCD screen
Press the red power button ? on the LCD screen to start the machine. Use the silver Selection button to change power modes or navigate menus.
Connect your machine
Connect your machine using Bluetooth ? or the QR code provided on the box or LCD screen. Follow on-screen instructions.
Power modes
Your machine offers three power modes for different cleaning tasks:
- Eco mode: Provides maximum run time for longer cleaning sessions.
- Auto mode: Balances power and run time, automatically increasing suction for higher dust levels.
- Boost mode: Designed for intensive spot cleaning of ground-in dirt.
Dust particle sensor
The LCD screen displays real-time dust particle detection. Bars indicate the amount of debris detected: Red for high dust, Amber for medium, and Green for a clean area. This helps you see when your floor is clean.
Built-in tools
Access tools hidden within the wand for multi-purpose cleaning at high or low levels.
Remote release
Press the red collar on the wand to easily release it or change tools, allowing for convenient whole-home cleaning without bending down.
The LCD screen
The LCD screen provides information and allows you to control machine settings.
Settings menu
To access the settings menu, press and hold the Selection button until the menu appears. Press the button to scroll through options and hold to open an option. Available settings include:
- Bluetooth ? wireless technology (On/Off)
- Language selection
- System information (including serial number)
- Reset machine
Changing language
Navigate to the 'Language' option in the settings menu. Scroll through the list using the Selection button and press and hold to confirm your choice. A green tick ✔️ will appear upon successful selection.
Finding your serial number
In the settings menu, select 'System' to view your machine's serial number information.
Run time countdown
The screen will display alerts for battery status:
- Low battery: The machine will pulse three times, and a 'Low battery' icon will appear.
- Battery empty: A red warning icon will appear.
- Low run time: An amber circle surrounds the 'Low run time' message when the battery is low. A red circle appears if the battery runs low while in Boost mode.
To exit the settings menu, select the 'Exit menu' option.
Alerts
Your machine will display alerts to inform you of specific conditions:
- Airway blocked: Indicates a blockage needs removing. Ensure the machine is turned off before clearing.
- High storage temperature: Your machine is too warm. Move it to a cooler location.
- Cold temperature: Your machine is too cold. Move it to a warmer environment to warm up.
- Non-Dyson battery: A non-Dyson battery has been detected. This may indicate a counterfeit battery.
- Clean filter: Your filter requires cleaning. Refer to the 'Washing your filter' section. Ensure the filter is completely dry (at least 24 hours) before reattaching.
- Filter not fitted: The filter is not properly attached. Twist it clockwise until it locks into place.
- CleanCompaktorTM mechanism not fitted: Ensure the compression mechanism is correctly positioned and the lever is fully pulled up.
- Brush bar has stalled: The brush bar or cleaner head may be blocked. Remove the machine from the surface, restart, and check for blockages in the airway and around the brush bar.
- Update required: Update your machine via the MyDysonTM app for optimal use with new cleaner heads.

Download the MyDysonTM app from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new account.

Getting started on the MyDysonTM app
After downloading the MyDysonTM app, connect your machine:
- Scan the QR code on your machine's LCD screen or find your machine within the app.
- Hold your mobile device next to your machine.
- Press the power button to activate pairing mode.
- Once paired, follow the in-app instructions to set your language and activate your warranty.
Caring for your floors
Before vacuuming, check that the cleaner head or tool is clean and free from objects that could cause damage. Always consult your flooring manufacturer's recommended cleaning instructions. The brush bar can damage certain carpet types and floors; if fuzzing occurs, consider vacuuming without the motorised floor tool and consult your manufacturer.
Charging your machine
You can use your machine immediately or charge it partially. Connect the charger directly to the machine or place it in the dock. Blue LEDs on the battery flash during charging and remain lit for five seconds when fully charged (displaying 100%). The machine will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F) to protect the motor and battery.
The battery and bin can be charged while attached to the machine in the Wall Dock.
Charging your click-in battery
If you have additional click-in batteries, alternate them for consistent performance.
- Removing your battery: Press the release button and detach the battery.
- Refitting your battery: Align the battery with the handle, slide it in, and push firmly until it clicks into place.
Compressing dust
To compress dust in the bin, push the red compression lever down and then move it back up. The machine's power will cut out during compression.
Emptying your bin
Empty the bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level to maintain performance and avoid inaccurate particle readings. Ensure the machine power is turned off before emptying.
- Remove your wand: Press the red wand release button on top of the wand and pull it away from the bin.
- Release the dirt: Compress the bin contents. Hold the machine over a bin, pointing downwards. Push the silver bin release lever to open the bin base, then firmly push the red compression lever. The bin will slide down, cleaning its interior. The bin base will not open if the silver lever is not fully pushed down.
- Minimise dust contact: Cover the bin tightly in a dustproof bag while emptying. Press the silver button to open the bin base, carefully remove the bin, seal the bag, and dispose of it.
- Close the bin: Push the bin base upwards until the bin and base click into place.
Cleaning your bin
To clean the bin:
- Remove your bin: Open the bin base, then press the buttons on either side of the bin to release it and slide it off the runner.
- Refit your bin: Insert the spine onto the bin runner. Push the bin base upwards until the bin and bin base click into place.
Clearing blockages
Disconnect the machine from the charger and ensure the power is turned off before checking for blockages. Be aware of sharp objects and allow the machine to cool down. Do not use the machine while checking for blockages to avoid injury. If a blockage is detected, the motor will pulse, and the machine will cut out until the blockage is cleared.
- Check the main body: Remove the bin and inspect the main body for blockages. Ensure all parts are refitted securely before use.
- Check the wand and cleaner head: Inspect the wand and cleaner head for obstructions. Remove the brush bar if necessary, following specific instructions.

Clearing obstructions from your All Floor ConesTM Sense cleaner head
The All Floor ConesTM Sense cleaner head does not have a washable brush bar. Regularly check and clear obstructions to maintain performance. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and turned off. Do not use dishwashers, detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
- Remove the cover and brush bars: Lift the plastic clips at the back of the cleaner head (left and right) to release the cover. Twist and pull each brush bar to remove.
- Look for obstructions: Clear any debris from the brush bar and inside the cleaner head. Wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth. The brush bar and cleaner head are not washable.
- Re-assemble: Reattach each brush bar by matching the colour of the plastic fitting to the cleaner head. Refit the cover by slotting it back into place and snapping the clips.
Clearing blockages from your Hair screw tool 2.0
The Hair screw tool 2.0 does not have a washable brush bar. Regularly check and clear obstructions. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and turned off. Do not use dishwashers, detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
- Remove the cover and brush bars: Remove the tool from the wand or machine. Push the base plate open. Press the red lever down to release the cleaner head cover and pull it off.
- Look for obstructions: Pull the brush bar firmly to remove it. Check and clear obstructions from all three parts of the tool. Wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth. The tool is not washable.
- Re-assemble: Put the brush bar back into position and press until it clicks. Ensure the red locking lever is unlocked. Align the cleaner head cover with the guide on the main body and push until it clicks. Push the red locking lever up until it clicks, then push the base plate back into place.
How to use your Dyson SubmarineTM 2.0 wet roller head
This section details how to use the wet roller head for cleaning hard floors.
- Remove the cassette: Hold the wet roller head, press the red Quick-release button, and slide out the removable cassette.
- Remove the cap: Unscrew the cap on the water reservoir.
- Fill with water: Fill the water reservoir with clean water up to the 'MAX' line.
- Replace the cap: Securely fit the cap back onto the water reservoir.
- Reassemble and attach: Slide the waste extraction tray and water reservoir back into the main roller head until it clicks. Attach the main wet roller head to your vacuum's wand.
Cleaning can continue until the water reservoir is low or the battery runs out. Refill and resume as needed. Do not wet clean with an empty reservoir to prevent motor overheating.
Remaining battery life is displayed as a percentage on the LCD screen.
How to clean your Dyson SubmarineTM 2.0 wet roller head
Proper cleaning of the wet roller head is essential for performance.
- Detach and place: Turn off the machine and detach the wet roller head. Place it immediately in the drip tray to prevent spillage.
- Hold level: Keep the wet roller head level in the drip tray.
- Disassemble and empty: Hold the wet roller head over a sink, remove it from the drip tray. Press the red Quick-release button and slide out the cassette. Remove the red dirty water tank cap to empty the waste extraction tray.
- Wash components: Empty any leftover water from the reservoir. Do not expose the neck of the water roller head to water. All washable parts (roller, waste extraction tray, water reservoir, drip tray) can be cleaned with water and a diluted household anti-bacterial solution.
- Dry components: Wipe away dirt and excess water from the main roller head, waste extraction tray, and water reservoir with a cloth. Leave the wet roller to air dry in a warm, well-ventilated space.
It is recommended to replace the wet roller every six months, depending on usage, to maintain performance.
Washing your filter
Wash your filter at least once a month to maintain suction power. Ensure the filter is completely dry (at least 24 hours) before reattaching, as a damp filter can damage the machine.

- Remove filter: Twist the filter anti-clockwise and pull it away from the machine.
- Tap off dust: Gently tap the filter over a bin to remove loose dust and debris.
- Wash filter: Wash the pleated paper element under warm running tap water, with the foam element facing downwards. Then, wash the foam element, still pointing downwards. Hold the filter on its side and run warm water over the outside of the foam element, gently rubbing to remove dirt. Repeat until water runs clear.
- Shake and dry: Empty the filter and shake firmly to remove excess water. Keep shaking until no more water comes out. Place the filter on its end in a well-ventilated, warm place to dry for at least 24 hours.
- Refit filter: Once completely dry, position the filter unit in place on the main body and twist clockwise until it clicks.
Do not dry the filter in a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven, microwave, or near a naked flame.
Washing your All Floor ConesTM Sense brush bars
The All Floor ConesTM Sense cleaner head has washable brush bars. Regularly check and wash them to maintain optimum performance. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and turned off. Do not use dishwashers, detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
- Remove cover and brush bars: Lift the plastic clips at the back of the cleaner head (left and right) to release the cover. Unscrew each brush bar to remove.
- Wash and dry: Hold each brush bar under running water and gently rub to remove lint or dirt. Stand the brush bars upright to dry completely for at least 24 hours.
- Refit brush bars: Before refitting, ensure each brush bar is completely dry. Reattach them by matching the colour of the plastic fitting to the cleaner head. Refit the cover by slotting it back into place.
Cleaning your optic lens
To maintain optimum performance, keep the lens clean. Clean the lens only when the cleaner head is not attached to the machine. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the lens.
Cleaning your tools
General instructions for cleaning tools:
- Do not put any part of your machine in a dishwasher or use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
- Wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth, avoiding the connector end.
- Ensure tools are completely dry before use.
