About This Manual
The operational procedures for Modules 3239 and 3240 are identical. All illustrations in this manual show Module 3239. Button operations are indicated using the letters shown in the illustration. Each section provides the information needed to perform operations in each mode. Further details and technical information can be found in the "Reference" section.
Button identification: [Button A], [Button B], [Button C], [Button D], [Snooze Button], [Alarm Button], [Signal Button].
General Guide
Press [Button C] to change from mode to mode. In any mode, press [Button B] to illuminate the display for approximately one second. In any mode, hold down [Button C] for about one second to return to the Timekeeping Mode. In the Alarm, Stopwatch, and Dual Time modes, the watch always shows the current Timekeeping Mode time in the lower display area.
Mode displays: Timekeeping Mode shows time, date, and day of the week. Alarm Mode shows alarm time or Hourly Time Signal status. Stopwatch Mode shows elapsed time. Dual Time Mode shows time in a different time zone.
Timekeeping
Use the Timekeeping Mode to set and view the current time and date.
To set the time and date
1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down [Button A] until the seconds start to flash, indicating the setting screen. 2. Press [Button C] to move the flashing selection in the sequence: Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Year, Month, Day. 3. When the desired setting is flashing, press [Button D] to change it. Press [Button D] to reset seconds to 00. Press [Button D] to increase other settings. Note: Pressing [Button D] when seconds are 30-59 resets them to 00 and adds 1 to minutes. 4. Press [Button A] to exit the setting screen. The day of the week is automatically displayed based on the date settings. The year can be set from 2000 to 2099. The full automatic calendar handles month lengths and leap years.
To toggle between 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping
In the Timekeeping Mode, press [Button D] to toggle between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. With the 12-hour format, a 'P' indicator appears for p.m. times. With the 24-hour format, times range from 0:00 to 23:59. The selected format applies to all modes.
Alarm
The multi-function alarm allows setting for hour, minutes, month, and day. It can sound once or provide a snooze alarm repeating up to seven times every five minutes. An Hourly Time Signal can also be activated to beep twice on the hour.
Alarm Types
The alarm type is determined by the settings:
- Daily alarm: Sounds every day at the set hour and minutes.
- Date alarm: Sounds at the specific time and date set.
- 1-Month alarm: Sounds every day at the set time, only during the set month.
- Monthly alarm: Sounds every month at the set time, on the set day.
To set an alarm time
1. In the Alarm Mode, press [Button D] to display the alarm screen. 2. Hold down [Button A] until the hour setting of the alarm time starts to flash. This automatically turns on the one-time alarm. 3. Press [Button C] to move the flashing selection through Hour, Minutes, Month, Day. 4. While a setting is flashing, press [Button D] to increase it. For alarms not including a month (Daily, Monthly), set the month to 'x'. For alarms not including a day (Daily, 1-Month), set the day to 'xx'. When setting the alarm time in 12-hour format, ensure the correct a.m./p.m. is set. 5. Press [Button A] to exit the setting screen.
Alarm Operation
The alarm tone sounds for about 10 seconds. The snooze alarm repeats every five minutes up to seven times. Pressing any button stops the alarm. The alarm and Hourly Time Signal sound in all modes.
To select the alarm type
1. In the Alarm Mode, press [Button D] to display the alarm screen. 2. Press [Button A] to cycle through alarm settings: Alarm Off, One-time alarm on, Snooze alarm on. An alarm on indicator and snooze alarm on indicator are shown on the display in all modes when active. The snooze alarm indicator flashes during the 5-minute intervals.
Stopping a Snooze Alarm Operation
After a snooze alarm time is reached, during any 5-minute interval, you can stop it: 1. While in the Alarm Mode, press [Button D] to display the alarm screen. 2. Press [Button A] to turn off the alarm or select the one-time alarm. This also changes the alarm type setting.
To test the alarm
In the Alarm Mode, hold down [Button D] to sound the alarm.
To turn the Hourly Time Signal on and off
1. In the Alarm Mode, press [Button D] to display the Hourly Time Signal screen. 2. Press [Button A] to turn it on or off. An indicator is shown on the display in all modes when the Hourly Time Signal is on.
Stopwatch
The stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times, and two finishes. The display range is up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. The stopwatch continues running and restarts from zero after reaching its limit until stopped. Measurement continues even if the Stopwatch Mode is exited. Exiting while a split time is frozen clears the split time and returns to elapsed time measurement.
To measure times with the stopwatch
Elapsed time: Press [Button D] to Start, [Button D] to Stop, [Button D] to Re-start, [Button A] to Clear.
Split time: Press [Button D] to Start, [Button A] to Split (SPL displayed), [Button A] to Split release (displaying first runner's time), [Button D] to Stop, [Button A] to Clear.
Two Finishes: Press [Button D] to Start, [Button A] to Split (displaying first runner's time), [Button A] to Split release (displaying second runner's time), [Button D] to Stop, [Button A] to Clear.
Dual Time
The Dual Time Mode allows tracking time in a different time zone. The seconds count is synchronized with the Timekeeping Mode.
To set the Dual Time
1. Press [Button C] to enter the Dual Time Mode. 2. Hold down [Button A] until the hour setting starts to flash. 3. Press [Button C] to change the selection between Hour, Minutes, Seconds. 4. Press [Button D] to increase the setting. 5. Press [Button A] to exit the setting screen.
Reference
Auto return features
If no operation is performed for two or three minutes while digits are flashing, the watch automatically saves settings and exits the setting screen.
Data and Setting Scrolling
The [Button D] is used to scroll through setting screen data. Holding [Button D] scrolls data at high speed.
Backlight Precautions
The backlight uses an LED and light guide panel for display illumination. Press [Button B] for illumination for about one second. Illumination may be hard to see in direct sunlight. The backlight stops when an alarm sounds. Frequent use of the backlight shortens battery life.
