About This Manual

This manual provides instructions for operating the Casio 5679 watch. Sample displays use dark figures on a light background. Button operations are indicated by letters (A, B, C, D). Product illustrations are for reference only and may differ slightly from the actual product.

Watch Features

Selecting a Mode

Press button C to cycle through the different modes: Timekeeping, Telememo, World Time, Alarm, Timer, and Stopwatch. Pressing C after any operation returns the watch to the Timekeeping Mode.

Mode Indicators:

Timekeeping

This watch offers both digital and analog timekeeping. Button A toggles between the date and time displays in the Timekeeping Mode.

Digital Time and Date

Use the Timekeeping Mode to set and view the digital time and date. You can also configure Daylight Saving Time (DST).

To set the digital time and date:

  1. In Timekeeping Mode, press and hold button A until the seconds digits flash, indicating the setting screen.
  2. Press button C to cycle through the settings to be changed: Seconds, DST, Hour, Minute, Day, Month, Year.
  3. When the desired setting is flashing, use buttons B (to decrease) and D (to increase) to change the value.
  4. Press button A to exit the setting screen.

Notes:

12-Hour and 24-Hour Timekeeping

In Timekeeping Mode, press button D to toggle between 12-hour (indicated by 'A' for AM or 'P' for PM) and 24-hour formats. This setting applies to all modes.

Digital Time Daylight Saving Time (DST) Setting

Daylight Saving Time advances the digital time by one hour. Not all regions observe DST.

To toggle DST:

  1. In Timekeeping Mode, press and hold button A until the seconds digits flash.
  2. Press button C once to display the DST setting screen.
  3. Press button D to toggle between 'ON' (Daylight Saving Time) and 'OFF' (Standard Time).
  4. Press button A to exit.

The 'DST' indicator appears on the display when DST is active.

Setting the Analog Time

Adjust the analog hands if they do not match the digital time.

  1. In Timekeeping Mode, press button C six times to enter the Hand Setting Mode.
  2. Press and hold button A until the digital time starts flashing, indicating the analog setting screen.
  3. Press button D to advance the analog time by 20 seconds. Holding D advances the hands at high speed. Pressing B and D simultaneously locks high-speed movement until any button is pressed.
  4. Press button A to exit.

Telememo

Telememo allows you to store up to 30 records, each containing a name and telephone number. Records are automatically sorted by name.

Enter Telememo Mode by pressing button C.

To create a new Telememo record:

  1. In Telememo Mode, press buttons B and D simultaneously to display the new data screen. If the screen does not appear, memory is full.
  2. Press and hold button A until a flashing cursor appears in the name field.
  3. Use buttons B and D to change the character at the cursor position. Press button C to move the cursor to the right.
  4. Input the name (up to 8 characters). You can use spaces, letters (A-Z), and symbols.
  5. Press button C repeatedly to move the cursor to the number field.
  6. Use buttons B and D to change characters in the number field. Press button C to move the cursor.
  7. Input the telephone number (up to 16 digits).
  8. Press button A to store the data and return to the record screen. The name will flash briefly as records are sorted. A name must be entered to store a record.

To recall Telememo records:

In Telememo Mode, press button D to scroll through stored records. Press button A to toggle the display between the name and number fields.

To edit a Telememo record:

  1. In Telememo Mode, use button D to scroll to the record you wish to edit.
  2. Press and hold button A until the cursor flashes.
  3. Use button C to move the cursor, and buttons B/D to change characters.
  4. Press button A to save changes.

To delete a Telememo record:

  1. In Telememo Mode, use button D to scroll to the record you wish to delete.
  2. Press and hold button A until the cursor flashes.
  3. Press buttons B and D simultaneously to delete the record. 'CLR' will appear briefly.
  4. Press button A to return to the record screen.

World Time

The World Time function displays the current time in 32 cities (29 time zones) worldwide. Timekeeping Mode and World Time Mode settings are independent.

Enter World Time Mode by pressing button C.

To set the World Time:

  1. In World Time Mode, press button D to scroll through city codes.
  2. Press and hold button A until the DST On/Off setting flashes.
  3. Press button C to cycle through settings: DST, Hour, Minute.
  4. When a setting flashes, use buttons B/D to change it. Pressing B and D together syncs the displayed time with the current Timekeeping Mode time. Press D to toggle DST ON/OFF.
  5. Press button A to exit.

To view the time in another city code:

In World Time Mode, press button D to scroll through city codes.

To toggle a city code time between Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time:

  1. In World Time Mode, use button D to display the desired city code.
  2. Press and hold button A until the DST On/Off setting flashes.
  3. Press button D to toggle between 'ON' (DST) and 'OFF' (Standard Time). This setting applies to all World Time city codes simultaneously.
  4. Press button A to exit.

Alarm

Set up to three independent daily alarms (AL1, AL2, SNZ) and an Hourly Time Signal (SIG). Alarms sound at the set time for approximately 10 seconds.

Enter Alarm Mode by pressing button C.

To set an alarm time:

  1. In Alarm Mode, use button D to scroll through the alarm screens (AL1, AL2, SNZ, SIG).
  2. Press and hold button A until the hour setting flashes, indicating the setting screen. This automatically turns the alarm on.
  3. Press button C to move between the hour and minute settings.
  4. When a setting flashes, use buttons B () and D (+) to change the value. Pay attention to the AM/PM indicator if using the 12-hour format.
  5. Press button A to exit.

Alarm Operation:

Alarms sound at the preset time. The snooze alarm repeats every five minutes. To stop an alarm, press any button. Certain operations during snooze intervals can cancel the snooze function.

To test the alarm:

In Alarm Mode, press and hold button D to sound the alarm.

To turn an alarm and the Hourly Time Signal on and off:

  1. In Alarm Mode, use button D to select the desired alarm (AL1, AL2, SNZ) or the Hourly Time Signal (SIG).
  2. Press button A to toggle the function ON or OFF.

Indicators (AL1, AL2, SNZ, SIG) appear on the display when the respective functions are turned on. These indicators are visible in all modes.

Timer

The countdown timer can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours. An alarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero.

Enter Timer Mode by pressing button C.

To set the countdown start time:

  1. In Timer Mode, press and hold button A until the hour setting flashes.
  2. Press button C to move between hour and minute settings.
  3. Use buttons B () and D (+) to change the values. Set 0:00 for a 24-hour countdown.
  4. Press button A to exit.

To use the timer:

The countdown continues even if you change modes.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times, and two finishes. It has a measuring capacity of 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.

Enter Stopwatch Mode by pressing button C.

To measure times with the stopwatch:

The stopwatch continues measuring even if you change modes.
