Working Theory

Low oxygen combustion. The smoke leak detector employs a forced combustion smoke generation method in a low oxygen environment. It is energized by a conductive column to the heating wire, which rapidly heats up to more than 300° C so that the mineral oil reaches the ignition point and enters the state of combustion. Due to the small intake of air flow, it is insufficient to provide sufficient oxygen to maintain full combustion, thus the combustion mainly occurs on the surface of the heating wire. Subject to high-temperature heating, the mineral oil retention object can continue to burn insufficiently around the heating wire, thus producing a large amount of smoke.

Preparation

  1. Mount the Hook to the Hook Port, used for carrying the unit around or hanging somewhere under the hood.
  2. Open the Oil Refill Port, fill about 10-20ml of the smoke oil into the reservoir. Note: If the smoke oil is overfilled, open the end cover of the Oil outlet (C) and drain some oil.
  3. Now the unit is ready to use.

Main Functions and Features

  1. The kit is equipped with a dedicated testing adapter, suitable for detecting leaks in automotive pipelines and chambers, but not limited to.
  2. The air source of the kit is a built-in air pump, which is convenient to use. The smoke flow rate and pressure are automatically established, and leakage points as small as 0.25mm can be detected.
  3. Small and portable equipment, with a compact and lightweight design, can be placed in the toolbox.
  4. The power supply of this equipment is externally connected to a DC12V battery, with a socially recognized safe voltage and no risk of high-voltage electric shock.

Equipment Maintenance

  1. The correct way to store equipment is to avoid exposure to sunlight, rain, impact, and dumping, and to hang it for storage.
  2. When the equipment is not in use for a long time, the remaining oil fumes inside the equipment should be completely poured out.
  3. When the smoke from the equipment is not obvious, new oil should be added. When working for more than 3 hours in total, the oil should be replaced. Adding new oil needs to be done while the equipment is cooling, 30ml each time.
  4. This unit uses paraffin wax, baby oil/mineral oil as smoke oil, available in supermarket or pharmacy.
  5. Every three months, drain all the old oil out and refill with new.

Safety Instructions

  1. Keep this product in good working order and condition, take immediate action to repair or replace damaged parts if necessary.
  2. Use approved parts only. Unapproved parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.
  3. Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area.
  4. Keep work area clean and tidy and free from unrelated materials.
  5. Ensure the work area has adequate lighting.
  6. DO NOT use the kit to perform a task for which it is not designed.
  7. DO NOT allow untrained persons to use the kit.
  8. DO NOT use while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or intoxicating medication.
  9. After use, clean equipment and store in a cool, dry, childproof area.
  10. Dispose of waste liquids in accordance with local authority regulations.

Warning

  1. DO NOT pollute the environment by allowing uncontrolled discharge of fluids.
  2. DO NOT use DC12V power sources other than DC12V, as this may affect the effectiveness of work and use. It is strictly prohibited to use power sources of other voltage categories besides DC12V batteries to supply power to the device, otherwise there will be serious risks of harm.

Smoke Test

  1. Mount the Smoke Hose to the Smoke Outlet and the Power Cord to the Power Socket.
  2. Connect the Power Cord to a 12V vehicle battery. Note: Red clamp to Positive(+), Black clamp to Negative(-). For best performance, the vehicle battery shall be fully charged. Note: ONLY a 12V vehicle battery is allowed to be used as the power supply for the unit. Do NOT use a DC12V switch power supply.
  3. Switch the function button to the air mode gear, now the air mode indicator LED (E) will be on. The built-in air pump of this unit begins to work. At this time, pressurized air will be transported through the smoke outlet(A) to the smoke outlet hose port and discharged. This mode can be used to detect leakage points that require or only require pressurized air, and that do not require or must not smoke. Switch the function button(D) to the smoke mode gear. At this time, the smoke mode indicator LED(F) and the air indicator LED(E) are all on, and the device starts to work. Wait for about 20 seconds, and smoke will be transported through the smoke outlet to the port of the smoke outlet hose and discharged. This smoke is used to detect leakage points.

Generic Operation

LEAK TEST OF VEHICLE SYSTEMS REQUIRES THE ENGINE TO BE OFF.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition of the vehicle.
  2. Dismantle the air filter and the throttle connections.
  3. Clean the inner wall of the intake opening to avoid sharp objects and put the Universal Intake Adapter into the opening.
  4. Mount the Smoke Hose to the Smoke Outlet (A) and the Power Cord to the Power Socket and connect the Power Cord to a 12V vehicle battery.
  5. Open the oil inlet(L) and fill about 10-20ml of smoke test oil into it.
  6. Turn on the smoke switch. Now both the air indicator LED(E) and smoke indicator LED(F) are on and the unit begins to work. Wait for about 20 seconds, and the smoke will be discharged through the smoke outlet (A) to the port of the smoke outlet hose. The smoke is used to detect leakage points.
  7. Introduce the smoke nozzle into the system via the Cone Adapter and the testing work starts. Please check the Pressure Gauge (G) reading for leak status and carefully check the smoke leakage points.
  8. Collect the Smoke Hose and the Power Cord with the Velcro Straps for storage. Hang the unit or make it stand in an UPRIGHT position only. Do NOT lay it down.

NOTE: Cap Stoppers (Optional) could be used to block off various openings if a test on a partial portion of the whole system is required. They also could be used to block off the intake opening, as the smoke nozzle connects to the system via other openings available.
