Safety and Tools
Safety Precautions
Always use appropriate personal protective equipment: ? [gloves], ? [eye protection], ? [hearing protection].
Required Tools and Fasteners
- Anchor Types: HSW M12x220/60 8.8, M12x140 4.6
- Tools: SIW 6, SIW 8, SF 10W, T30 bit
- Fastener Clearance: 8 mm
Installation Procedure
Step 1: Hole Preparation
Drill a hole with a diameter of Ø 37 mm. Ensure a minimum embedment depth of ≥ 90 mm. Maintain a minimum edge distance of ≥ 54 mm. The required drilling depth is between 20-30 mm.
Step 2: Anchor Insertion
Insert the anchor into the prepared hole. Ensure the anchor is flush with the substrate surface.
Step 3: Fastener Installation
Use the specified HSW fasteners (M12x220/60 8.8 or M12x140 4.6). The anchor requires a 8 mm clearance hole for the fastener.
Step 4: Tightening and Verification
Use the appropriate tool (SIW 6, SIW 8, SF 10W with T30 bit) to tighten the fastener. Ensure a minimum material thickness (t₃) of 45 mm is maintained for secure fastening. Verify correct installation with a visual check. Incorrect installation is indicated by a red cross symbol ❌.
Step 5: Anchor Variants and Applications
Hilti offers various anchor types for different applications: HCW-L, HCW, HCW-S, and HCW-UP. The diagrams illustrate their use in different base materials.
Example Applications:
- HCW-L: Suitable for specific base materials.
- HCW: General purpose anchor.
- HCW-S: For specific substrate conditions.
- HCW-UP: As detailed in this guide.
⚠️ Always consult Hilti's technical documentation for specific load capacities and suitability for your base material and application.
Step 6: Final Assembly
The final step involves securing the component using the installed anchors. Diagrams show the installation of various HCW anchor types in concrete or masonry substrates.
