Product Models
Thetford offers several models of permanent RV toilets, including:
- Aqua-Magic VI
- Bravura
- Aqua-Magic Residence
- Aqua-Magic Style II & Style Plus (China Bowl)
Diagrams on page 1 show visual representations of these models.
Operation
The toilet is operated using a single pedal:
- To add water: Press the pedal halfway.
- To flush: Press the pedal all the way down.
Figure 1 illustrates these operations.
Installation
Required Tools
- Adjustable wrench
- 1/2" ratchet or box wrench
If Carpeted
- Carpet cutting tool
- Marker or chalk
Plumbing Required
For adequate flush, a 3/8" I.D. water supply line with good flow is required.
Installing the Toilet
- Remove the old toilet and closet flange seal.
- Attach the new closet flange seal to the new toilet, lip side down.
- For Style Plus and Bravura models ONLY: Remove the shroud from the base of the unit.
- With mounting bolts in place, position the toilet over the closet flange.
- If the floor is not carpeted, proceed to step 4.
- If the floor is carpeted, trace around the toilet, remove the toilet, and cut away the carpet to expose the floor. Carpet beneath the pedal may also need to be removed.
- Connect the water line to the water valve/elbow using 1/2" NPT tube fittings.
- Reset the toilet. Using body weight, press the toilet firmly to the floor.
- Tighten nuts until the toilet is stable. Do not overtighten.
- Turn on the water and flush. Check for leaks.
- For Bravura models ONLY: Install the shroud.
- For Style Plus models ONLY: Attach the shroud to the toilet by depressing the pedal, placing the pedal opening over the pedal, and pushing it firmly against the base. Press the sides of the shroud to the toilet and attach two o-rings on the hooks to secure it. Ensure dual lock engages under the front of the shroud by tapping the shroud above the pedal.
Removing the Toilet
Follow the installation directions in reverse order. Place a towel behind the toilet under the water connection to catch any spills.
Cleaning
Recommendation: Use Thetford Aqua-Clean™ non-abrasive cleaner with a soft-bristle, non-abrasive bowl brush, sponge, or soft cloth.
⚠️ CAUTION: To avoid damage, DO NOT use petroleum-based products. DO NOT USE SCOURING POWDERS, ACIDS OR CONCENTRATED CLEANERS, WHICH CAN DAMAGE SURFACES, PLASTIC PARTS AND RUBBER SEALS. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
Treatments
This toilet is designed to be compatible with Thetford brand holding tank deodorants.
Winterizing
⚠️ CAUTION: To avoid damage, when using air pressure to blow water from lines, ensure the toilet valve is open. If water is frozen in the toilet, do not attempt to flush until the ice thaws. Use RV (potable) antifreeze only. Never use automotive type antifreeze.
Steps for Winterizing:
- Turn off the RV's water supply.
- Drain the toilet bowl.
- Disconnect the supply line at the water valve.
- Completely drain the toilet's water supply line.
- Add antifreeze solution and 1/4 bottle of Thetford's Toilet Seal Lubricant and Conditioner to the toilet bowl.
Troubleshooting
Leaks
- Back of toilet: Check the water supply line connection at the water valve. Secure or tighten as necessary. If the leak persists from the water valve, replace it.
- Vacuum breaker leaks while flushing: Replace the Vacuum Breaker or water module, depending on the model.
- Between closet flange and toilet: Check flange nuts for tightness. If the leak continues, remove the toilet and check the flange height. Use Thetford spacers to adjust, if necessary, to 7/16" above the floor. Replace the flange seal.
Toilet Does Not Hold Water
Thetford Premium RV Slide-Out Rubber Seal Conditioner often corrects leaks.
- Check for and remove any debris from the blade/ball seal track.
- Check the blade/ball seal compression with the mechanism. If the blade/ball seal is worn, replace it.
Difficult Pedal Operation
Use Thetford Toilet Seal Lubricant and Conditioner on the blade/ball to improve operation.
⚠️ CAUTION: To avoid damage, do not use petroleum-based lubricants.
Poor Flush
- Pedal levers must be held fully open during flush.
- A good flush should be obtained within two to three seconds.
- If the problem persists, remove the water supply line and check the flow rate. The flow rate should be at least 2.5 gallons per minute.
Options
Thetford Toilet Riser
This accessory increases comfort by raising the toilet 2.5 inches. It fits all Aqua-Magics and Bravura models.
Hand Spray
This accessory attaches easily to the existing water valve. It is available for Bravura, Aqua-Magic V, Aqua-Magic Style, and Aqua-Magic Residence models only.
