Selection of Mounting Location

The recommended mounting location and approach vary for different Daikin indoor unit types.

1. Wall-mounted unit

Applicable models: CTXS, FAQ, FTK_N, FTX_N, FTX_U, FTXG, FTXR, FTXS, FXAQ.

For wall-mounted units, if refrigerant piping is on the right side and the piping chase is not occupied, mount the adaptor inside the indoor unit for concealment. Otherwise, mount it outside.

Mounting outside of the indoor unit: If refrigerant piping is left-side installed and occupies the chase, mount the adaptor outside. Select a location providing access to the indoor unit electrical box while minimizing visibility of the adaptor and wiring.

2. Ducted and Air Handler Unit

Applicable models: CDXS, CXTQ, FBQ, FDMQ, FDXS, FTQ, FXDQ, FXMQ, FXSQ, FXTQ.

Mount the adaptor to the side or top of the indoor unit using adhesive tape, or to a nearby sturdy surface. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

3. Ceiling Cassette Units

Applicable models: FCQ, FFQ, FXEQ, FXFQ, FXZQ.

Mount the adaptor on top or side of the indoor unit using adhesive tape, or above the ceiling using screws. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

4. Ceiling suspended Units

Applicable models: FHQ, FXHQ, FXUQ.

Mount the adaptor on top of the indoor unit using adhesive tape (for FXUQ), or above the ceiling. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

5. Floor-mounted and Floor Standing Units

Applicable models: FVXS, FXLQ, FXMQ, FXNQ.

Mount the translator box by the side of the indoor unit. Select a location that minimizes the view of the adaptor and wiring, while providing access to the indoor unit electrical box.

Mounting

The Translation Adaptor offers two mounting approaches.

1. Mount with two screws

Use the provided screws to mount the adaptor's backplate to a suitable wall surface. Do not mount the adaptor directly to the indoor unit.

[Diagram description: Shows mounting plate, screws, and adaptor being assembled.]

2. Mount with double-sided adhesive tape

Use the provided double-sided adhesive tape to mount the translator box directly onto the indoor unit. The mounting plate has a recess for the tape. Text "APPLY OPTIONAL ADHESIVE STRIP HERE" indicates the tape placement area.

To ensure durable adhesive performance:

Wiring

1. Overview

The translator box connects the indoor unit and the Daikin One+ Thermostat, powered by the indoor unit or an external source.

For S21 Indoor Units

[Diagram description: Shows wiring from the thermostat terminal plate to the translation adaptor, and then to the S21 connector on the indoor unit or interface adaptor.]

For P1P2 Indoor Units

*Max P1P2 wire length is 1640 ft.

Communication Terminal Usage

Only one communication terminal (S21 or P1P2) can be used per indoor unit. Never use both simultaneously.

2. Thermostat Wiring

The Daikin One+ Smart Thermostat receives power directly from the adaptor. Wire the thermostat wire first, followed by the S21 or P1P2 communication wire. Connect the thermostat terminals (D1, D2, C, R) on the adaptor to the corresponding terminals (1, 2, C, R) on the Daikin One+ Thermostat terminal plate using 18AWG 4-conductor non-shielded wire. Ensure correct termination combinations as shown in the diagram.

[Diagram description: Shows the connection of thermostat wires (D1, D2, C, R) from the adaptor's thermostat terminal to the corresponding terminals on the Daikin One+ Thermostat terminal plate.]

3. S21 Communication Wiring

The S21 communication cable is for S21 indoor units (Single and Multi-splits). Use the provided cable, anchors, and S21/P1P2 wiring slot to route the cable towards the high voltage side of the adaptor.

The S21 wiring cable connects to the S21 connector on the indoor unit PCB or the Interface Adaptor, depending on the indoor unit model. Refer to the indoor unit installation manual for S21 connector location.

Some units may require an Interface Adaptor. The following table lists models requiring an adaptor and its part number.

4. P1P2 Communication Wiring

The P1P2 communication terminal is for P1P2 indoor units only. Use 18-2-non-shielded stranded wire to connect the P1P2 terminal on the adaptor to the P1P2 terminal of the indoor unit. Do not use the S21 terminal if the P1P2 terminal is used.

[Diagram description: Shows the P1P2 communication wire connecting the P1P2 terminal on the adaptor to the P1P2 terminal on the indoor unit.]

5. Power Supply

The P1P2 Communication terminal is used for P1P2 indoor units only. Use 18-2-non-shielded stranded wire to connect the P1P2 terminal on the Adaptor to the P1P2 terminal of the applicable indoor unit. Do not use the S21 terminal if P1P2 terminal is used.

Power can be obtained from the indoor unit or an external power supply.

[Diagram description: Illustrates obtaining power from the indoor unit, showing wiring from the thermostat terminal plate to the translation adaptor, and then to the indoor unit supply terminal (L1, L2, G).]

[Diagram description: Shows an external power supply cord connecting to the translation adaptor.]

6. Check Power Indicators

After wiring and installation are complete, turn on power to the indoor unit. Verify successful wiring using the adaptor's power indicator LEDs.

Once power and communication are verified, use the rubber grommet to cover the LEDs to prevent light bleed-through into the indoor unit.

[Diagram description: Shows the status LEDs on the adaptor for S21 units, labeled PWR, S21, and P1P2.]

[Diagram description: Shows the status LEDs on the adaptor for P1P2 units, labeled PWR, S21, and P1P2.]

For some wall-mounted units, the front cover may need to be removed to fit inside the piping chase. For other units, reattach the front cover by pressing it down until it snaps into place.
