Selection of Mounting Location

The recommended mounting location varies by Daikin indoor unit type.

1. Wall-mounted unit

Applicable models: CTXS, FAQ, FTK_N, FTX_N, FTX_U, FTXG, FTXR, FTXS, FXAQ

For wall-mounted units, if refrigerant piping is on the right and the piping chase is not occupied, mounting the adaptor inside the indoor unit is recommended for concealment. Otherwise, mount it outside.

  • Mounting inside the indoor unit piping chase: Utilize available space near the indoor unit mounting plate. Mount the adaptor's backplate to the wall, ensuring the high voltage power side faces the indoor unit electrical box. The front cover is optional in the piping chase. Some units may require front plate removal. If mounted inside, the adaptor cover is not needed.

2. Ducted and Air Handler Unit

Applicable models: CDXS, CXTQ, FBQ, FDMQ, FDXS, FTQ, FXDQ, FXMQ, FXSQ, FXTQ

Mount the adaptor to the side or top of the indoor unit using adhesive tape. It can also be mounted to a nearby sturdy surface. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

3. Ceiling Cassette Units

Applicable models: FCQ, FFQ, FXEQ, FXFQ, FXZQ

Mount the adaptor on top or the side of the indoor unit using adhesive tape. It can also be mounted above the ceiling using screws. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

4. Ceiling suspended Units

Applicable models: FHQ, FXHQ, FXUQ

Mount the adaptor on top of the indoor unit using adhesive tape (for FXUQ). It can also be mounted above the ceiling. Ensure access to the indoor unit electrical box.

5. Floor-mounted and Floor Standing Units

Applicable models: FVXS, FXLQ, FXMQ, FXNQ

Mount the translator box to the side of the indoor unit. Select a location that minimizes the visibility of the adaptor and wiring, while providing access to the indoor unit electrical box.

Illustration shows an indoor unit mounting plate and space for a translator box.

Mounting outside of the indoor unit

If refrigerant piping is left-side installed and occupies the piping chase, mount the adaptor outside the indoor unit. Select a location that provides access to the indoor unit electrical box and minimizes the visibility of the adaptor and wiring cables.

Mounting

The Translation Adaptor offers two mounting methods.

1. Mount with two screws

Use the provided screws to mount the adaptor to a suitable wall surface. Do not use screws to mount directly to the indoor unit. Mount the backplate to the selected surface using the two screws.

Illustration shows the adaptor, mounting plate, and screws for wall mounting. The front cover is shown as optional.

2. Mount with double-sided adhesive tape

Use the provided double-sided adhesive tape to mount the translator box directly onto the indoor unit. The mounting plate has a recess for the tape to minimize the gap.

To ensure durable adhesive performance:

  • Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. A 50:50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixture is recommended to remove dust and oils. Improper cleaning will prevent a proper chemical bond.
  • For flat surfaces, use the provided adhesive tape. Apply firm pressure for 30 seconds to improve adhesive contact and bond strength.
  • For non-flat surfaces, consider using thicker adhesive tape, such as 3M Super Strength Molding Tape 03609, for better contact compliance on curved surfaces.

Illustration shows adhesive tape applied to the mounting plate, which attaches to the adaptor. The front cover is also shown.

Wiring

1. Overview

The translator box connects between the indoor unit and the Daikin One+ Thermostat, drawing power from the indoor unit or an external source.

For S21 Indoor Units

2. Thermostat Wiring

The Daikin One+ Smart Thermostat receives power directly from the adaptor. Wire the thermostat wire first, followed by the S21 or P1P2 communication wire. Connect the thermostat terminals (D1, D2, C, R) on the adaptor to the corresponding terminals (1, 2, C, R) on the Daikin One+ Thermostat's terminal plate using 18AWG 4-conductor non-shielded wire. Ensure correct termination combinations as shown in the diagram.

3. S21 Communication Wiring

The S21 Communication terminal is for S21 indoor units (Single and Multi-splits). Use the included S21 wiring cable, utilizing the anchors and S21/P1P2 wiring slot to route the cable towards the high voltage side of the Adaptor.

Interface Adaptor Requirements

The S21 wiring cable connects to the S21 connector on the indoor unit PCB or the Interface Adaptor, depending on the indoor unit model. Refer to the indoor unit installation manual for S21 connector location.

Some single-zone and multi-zone indoor units lack an S21 connector on the PCB. For these, an Interface Adaptor must be ordered separately.

4. P1P2 Communication Wiring

The P1P2 Communication terminal is for P1P2 indoor units only. Use 18-2-non-shielded stranded wire to connect the P1P2 terminal on the Adaptor to the P1P2 terminal of the applicable indoor unit. Do not use the S21 terminal if the P1P2 terminal is used.

5. Power Supply

The P1P2 Communication terminal is for P1P2 indoor units only. Use 18-2-non-shielded stranded wire to connect the P1P2 terminal on the Adaptor to the P1P2 terminal of the applicable indoor unit. Do not use the S21 terminal if P1P2 terminal is used.

HIGH VOLTAGE WARNING
DISCONNECT ALL POWER BEFORE SERVICING OR INSTALLING THIS UNIT. MULTIPLE POWER SOURCES MAY BE PRESENT. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

6. Check Power Indicators

After wiring and installation are complete, turn on power to the indoor unit. Use the 'Power' indicator LED on the Adaptor to confirm successful wiring. The 'S21' LED will illuminate if the indoor unit uses S21 termination, and the 'P1P2' LED will illuminate if it uses P1P2 termination. Once power and communication are verified, use the rubber grommet to cover the LEDs to prevent light bleed-through when the unit and adaptor are fully installed.
