Introduction
The T7 Shield Portable Solid-State Drive (PSSD) combines exceptional performance for photographers and videographers with the durability required for everyday life. Intelligently designed by Samsung, this lightweight and pocket-sized drive offers confidence for storing data on-the-go, protected from drops, water, dust, or desert heat. It is the latest addition to the popular Samsung Portable SSD T-series and includes Samsung software for enhanced security and access to Samsung's Magician management software.
Professional Grade Performance and Great Capacity
The T7 Shield utilizes the NVMe™ protocol and the USB 3.2 Gen2 interface, providing maximum bandwidth of up to 10Gbps. This enables fast and easy transfer of photos and videos, with read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000MB/s. This is over 1.9 times faster than current SATA-based portable SSDs and more than 9.5 times faster than external HDDs. The drive is optimized for outstanding sustained read and write performance, even as it fills up, supporting demanding tasks like high-quality video recording, editing, and encoding. The T7 Shield is available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, allowing users to store extensive amounts of data.

Designed for Durability – Dust, Water and Drop Resistance
Building on the T-series' reputation for being compact and reliable, the T7 Shield adds robust durability. It features a strong aluminum body covered with a rubber coating for toughness. The aluminum provides excellent heat dissipation, while the rubber coating offers a secure grip and protection against scratches, stains, and external shocks. Integrated barriers around the USB-connector port help prevent water and dust ingress. The T7 Shield has achieved IP65 certification from an accredited lab and has passed internal tests involving drops from up to three meters (9.8 feet). This design allows users to take the T7 Shield on outdoor adventures without worry.
Management Software & Compatibility
The T7 Shield includes upgraded software for PCs and Macs to help set up passwords and manage firmware updates. A mobile app is also available for Android smartphones and tablets. The drive is compatible with Samsung's Magician software (version 7.0), which offers features like performance benchmarking, PSID revert, security functions, and firmware updates.
The T7 Shield is designed for broad compatibility with various devices due to its power efficiency and adherence to USB power standards. It operates on low power for mobile devices to extend battery life and provides fast, sustained write performance, making it suitable for content creators and professionals. Samsung's expertise in device manufacturing ensures wide compatibility.

System Requirements
USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) Interface Support
The T7 Shield performs optimally with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) interface. Using lower versions like USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps), USB 2.0, or 1.1 may result in reduced performance due to interface limitations. Performance can vary based on the connected system. Support for UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) is recommended for optimal performance.
Operating System Requirements
- Windows OS: Windows 7 or higher
- Mac OS: Mac OS X 10.10 or higher
- Android: Android Lollipop or higher
Note: The 4TB version of the T7 Shield is compatible only with 64-bit operating systems.
File Formats
The T7 Shield is pre-formatted with exFAT files, supported by Windows, Mac, and Android. The table below outlines read/write restrictions for different file systems across operating systems. For single-OS use, formatting with the appropriate file system is recommended.
File Formats | Windows OS | Mac OS |
---|---|---|
exFAT | Both read and write | Both read and write |
NTFS | Both read and write | Read only |
HFS/HFS+/APFS | Not recognizable | Both read and write |
When using exFAT across multiple operating systems, data writing may become locked, allowing only data reading. To restore write access, reconnect the T7 Shield to your Mac and perform Eject, or on Windows, run "Scan and fix" (Check Disk) if prompted, or manually perform Check Disk via drive properties. For Time Machine on Mac, format the drive to APFS.
Capacity Displayed on System
The capacity reported by your system may differ from the labeled capacity due to differences in decimal vs. binary measurement systems, partitioning, and blocking. Labeled capacity uses the decimal system (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, 1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes), while systems may use binary (e.g., 1 GB = 1,024MB). Your computer may show a lower capacity if it uses a different measurement standard.
