Behringer XD8USB Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information for setting up and operating your Behringer XD8USB 8-Piece Electronic Drum Set.

Assembly Instructions
Follow these steps to assemble your XD8USB drum kit:
- Stand Assembly: Assemble the main stand structure using the provided frame, poles, and brackets. Ensure all connections are securely tightened.
- Cymbal Poles and Drum Brackets: Attach cymbal poles to the stand and secure drum brackets to the poles. Be mindful of any sharp edges on components.
- Drums and Drum Module: Mount the drum pads (snare, toms, kick) onto the respective brackets. Attach the drum module to the frame using the mounting tube.
- Cymbals: Attach the crash and ride cymbals to their designated cymbal poles.
- Kick Drum Stand: Set up the kick drum pedal and connect it to the kick drum pad.
- Adjustments: Position the drum pads and cymbals for comfortable playing.
Hook-up Diagram
Connect the components as follows:
- Drum Module Connections: Connect the Kick, Snare, Toms (1-3), Crash, Ride, and Hi-Hat pads, along with the Hi-Hat pedal, to the DB25 connector (21) using the provided cable harness.
- Audio Outputs: Connect headphones to the PHONES jack (19). Connect the OUTPUT jack (15) to a mixer or active speaker for external sound.
- External Audio Input: Connect an MP3 player, CD player, or computer audio output to the AUX IN jack (16) to play along with external audio sources.
- Power: Connect the DC IN jack (17) to the supplied AC/DC power adapter, and plug the adapter into a mains socket.
- Computer Connection: Use the USB port (14) to connect to a computer for MIDI data transmission.
- External Equipment: Connect other instruments or audio devices (e.g., microphones, keyboards, guitar modelers) to a mixer for a complete setup.
XD8USB Controls
Familiarize yourself with the drum module controls:
- VOLUME Knob: Adjusts the master volume for headphone and main outputs.
- DISPLAY: Shows current KIT, VOICE, PATTERN numbers, TEMPO, and volume. A dot indicates the active mode (KIT, VOICE, or PAT).
- START/STOP Button: Starts or stops pattern playback or recording.
- SAVE/RECORD Button: Press once to save a new kit; press and hold to enter recording mode.
- CLICK Button: Starts or stops the metronome.
- DRUM OFF Button: Mutes or unmutes the drum track of a pattern.
- Minus (-) and Plus (+) Buttons: Navigate selections (KITS, VOICES, PATTERNS) and adjust parameters (TEMPO, volume).
- Pad Select Buttons: Select individual drum pads and cymbals to hear their sounds.
- TEMPO Button: Adjusts the tempo for patterns or recordings.
- VOICE Button: Selects different sounds (voices) for each pad/cymbal. Changes can be saved as a new KIT.
- PAT Button: Selects practice patterns (40 available). Pattern 41 is for user recordings.
- KIT Button: Selects from 10 preset drum kits or 5 user-saved kits.
- VOLUME Button: Adjusts the volume for the current KIT, VOICE, or PATTERN.
- USB: Connects to a computer for MIDI communication.
- OUTPUT: Line-level output for connecting to mixers or active speakers.
- AUX IN: 1/8" stereo input for external audio sources.
- DC IN: Connects to the power adapter.
- ON/OFF Switch: Powers the drum module on or off.
- PHONES: 1/8" stereo output for headphones.
- Mounting Tube: For attaching the module to the drum kit frame.
- DB25 Connector: Connects to the supplied cable harness.
Playing the XD8USB
Playing Techniques:
- Crash and Ride Cymbals: Play on the Bow (main surface) or Edge (rim) for different sounds.
- Snare Drum: Play on the Head or Rim for distinct tones.
- Toms: Play on the Head.
- Hi-Hat: Offers four options: Open (pedal up), Closed (pedal down), Bow Shot (with pedal open or closed), and Chick (pedal press only).
- Kick Drum: Play on the Head.
Selecting Kits:
- Press the KIT button to cycle through 10 preset kits and 5 user-saved kits (11-15).
- Adjust the volume for each kit using the VOLUME button and +/- buttons.
- Save custom kit settings by pressing SAVE/REC, selecting a user kit number (11-15) with +/-, and pressing SAVE/REC again.
Using Patterns:
- Press the PAT button to select from 40 available practice patterns.
- Adjust pattern volume using the VOLUME button and +/- buttons. Lowering pattern volume can help you hear your own playing better.
- Use the START/STOP button to play or pause patterns.
Recording Your Performance:
- Press and hold SAVE/REC to enter recording mode.
- Select a kit if desired.
- Press START/STOP to begin recording (a few seconds delay).
- Play the drum kit; your performance will be recorded as Pattern 41.
- Press START/STOP again to end the recording.
- To play back your recording, select Pattern 41 using the PAT button and +/- buttons, then press START/STOP.
Metronome (CLICK):
- Press the CLICK button to activate the metronome.
- Adjust the time signature and tempo using the +/- buttons and the TEMPO button.
- Press CLICK again to stop the metronome.
Changing Sounds (VOICE):
- Press the VOICE button to select a different sound for each pad or cymbal.
- Press the desired Pad Select button (8) to choose a sound.
- Use the +/- buttons (7) to cycle through the 123 available sounds.
- Save your custom sound assignments as a new user kit using SAVE/REC.
DRUM OFF:
- Press the DRUM OFF button to mute or unmute the drum track within a selected pattern.

The XD8USB features 123 distinct sounds and 10 preset kits, with 5 user-saveable slots.

- Snares: Standard Snare, Rock Snare 1-2, Room Snare, Vintage Snare, Jungle Snare, Fiesta Snare, Jazz Snare, 808 Snare, 909 Snare 1-2, Elektro V Snare, Noise. (Includes rim sounds for many).
- Toms: Rock Tom 1-6, Vintage Tom 1-6, Tom Brush 1-6, 808 Tom 1-6, Electro Tom 1-6.
- Ride Cymbals: Rock Ride 1-2, Metal Ride 1-2, 808 Ride. (Includes Bell and Combo variations).
- Crash Cymbals: Rock Crash 1-2, Vintage Crash, Metal Crash, Jungle Crash, Jazz Crash, 808 Crash.
- Hi-Hats: Open, Closed, Bow Shot, Chick variations for Classic, Rock, Jazz, 808.
