  4. Step 4: Wait for the device LEDs to light up! The modem will automatically turn on. It will then download available updates for approximately 2-10 minutes to become ready for operation. The establishment of an internet connection is indicated by the continuous green illumination of the LEDs.

The following LEDs should be continuously lit green:

The following LEDs will light up when devices are connected to the inputs:

Step 5: Connect your wired devices! Connect your wired devices to the ports on the back of the modem.

Note: The RESET button should only be used for troubleshooting.

Step 6: Connect your wireless devices to Wi-Fi using one of the following methods!

Connecting by entering network details:

  1. On the device's side label, you will find your new Wi-Fi network name (Network Name).
  2. Select this network in your mobile phone's, laptop's, or other wireless device's Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Enter the password (Security Key) and connect to the network.

Connecting via QR code On the same label, you will find a QR code. Scanning this with any mobile device equipped with a camera will allow you to connect to Wi-Fi instantly.

Connecting using the WPS button If the Wi-Fi device you wish to connect supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) technology, you can easily connect your Wi-Fi device to the Wi-Fi by briefly pressing the WPS button on the top of the modem (for 2 seconds).

  1. Briefly press the WPS button on the front of the modem; the button's LED will start flashing green.
  2. Within two minutes, initiate WPS on your Wi-Fi device as well. Consult your Wi-Fi device's user manual for instructions on how to do this.

Important Considerations:

If you have set-top boxes, remember to restart them after connecting them to the modem.

Useful Tips:

Certain environmental conditions can affect Wi-Fi signal propagation. Try to minimize the number of walls between the modem and your Wi-Fi devices. For this purpose, try to place the modem in the center of your home, at a height of at least 1 meter, in a visible location. Place your Wi-Fi devices at a similar height and in a visible location.

Do not place the devices near TVs, microwave ovens, refrigerators, or other large metal surfaces, as they can interfere with Wi-Fi signal propagation. For more information on Wi-Fi operation and internet networking, visit www.telekom.hu/jonet.

What if Something Isn't Working?

Please check:

If the modem is still not working correctly after these checks, restart it. If the problem persists after restarting, call Customer Service at 1414!

Personalizing Your SAGEMCOM F@ST 3896 TELEKOM HOME BOX (MODEM)

To personalize your modem's settings, open a web browser and go to https://192.168.0.1. On the admin page that appears, enter the 'Web access' details from the label on the side of the modem: the 'Username' and its corresponding 'Password'.

Once logged into the web interface, you will find the device's setting options and a brief summary of its current status.

Wi-Fi Operation

The Sagemcom F@st 3896 Telekom Home Box provides Wi-Fi on two different frequency bands. By default, the 'Band Steering' function automatically optimizes device connections between the two frequency bands, ensuring the best Wi-Fi band for the device's capabilities.

The network name and password set for the 5 GHz channel apply to the entire Wi-Fi network as long as 'Band Steering' is enabled.

You can change the Wi-Fi name and password in the 'Basic' settings under the Wi-Fi menu:

  1. In the 'SSID' field, you can overwrite the network name. In the 'Password' field, you can set a new password, which must be between 8 and 63 characters long.
  2. Save the settings by clicking the 'Apply' button.

After saving, the Wi-Fi connection details will be automatically updated on the QR code, allowing you to connect to the newly created Wi-Fi network instantly by scanning it with any mobile device equipped with a camera.

You can also set the Wi-Fi network name and password of a replaced modem on the new modem, so you don't have to reconnect individual household appliances, computers, etc., to the network.

Band Steering

The Sagemcom F@st 3896 Telekom Home Box provides Wi-Fi on two different frequency bands. If you want to separate the unified Wi-Fi network into two parallel networks, allowing you to individually choose which frequency band your home devices connect to, turn off the 'Band Steering' function. This function can be found in the Wi-Fi menu.

The 'Band steering' tab is where this is accessible. If you want to connect to the Wi-Fi network with greater coverage but lower speed, choose the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If you want to connect to a Wi-Fi network with smaller coverage but faster data transfer, choose the 5 GHz network. The method for setting up Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks is the same.

You can find more useful information and tips on the operation of 2.4 and 5 GHz networks and enhancing your home internet experience at www.telekom.hu/jonet.

Note: Not all Wi-Fi devices are compatible with the 5 GHz system!

Guest Wi-Fi If you want to create a separate Wi-Fi network for your guests or acquaintances in your home, use either the 'Guest 2.4 GHz' or 'Guest 5GHz' menu options. Enable the function by clicking the 'Allow wireless connection' button, then set a desired name (SSID) and password for the new guest Wi-Fi network. Save the settings by clicking the 'Apply' button to create the new network.
