Safety Instructions

General Safety Warnings for Power Tools

⚠ WARNING! Read all safety instructions, instructions, illustrations, and technical data provided with this power tool. Failure to follow the instructions below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

Keep all warnings and instructions for future reference.

1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2. Electrical Safety

  • Ensure the power tool's plug fits the socket. Never modify the plug. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • Keep power tools away from rain or wet conditions. Water penetrating a power tool increases the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not misuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or tangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Using a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operating a power tool in a damp environment is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD). Using an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. Personal Safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention can result in serious injury.
  • Use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses. Wearing personal protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip safety footwear, hard hat, or hearing protection, as appropriate for the type and use of the power tool, will reduce injuries.
  • Avoid unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power and/or battery pack, picking up, or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  • If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
  • Do not be lulled into a false sense of security and do not override the safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the tool after repeated use. Careless handling can cause severe injury in a fraction of a second.

Specific Safety Instructions for Nibblers

  • Hold the tool firmly.
  • Secure the workpiece properly.
  • Keep hands away from rotating parts.
  • The edges and chips of the workpiece are sharp. Wear gloves. For injury prevention, it is also recommended to wear shoes with thick soles.
  • Do not place the tool on workpiece chips. This may damage the tool or cause malfunctions.
  • Do not let the tool run unattended. Operate the appliance only while holding it.
  • Always ensure you have a stable stance.
  • When working at elevated workstations, ensure that no persons are located underneath.
  • Avoid touching the splined pin, die, or workpiece immediately after machining, as these parts may still be very hot and cause burns.
  • Avoid cutting electrical cables. This can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock.

Original Accessories/Attachments

Only use accessories and attachments specified in the operating instructions or whose mounting is compatible with the appliance.

Before Use

⚠ WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! Before performing any work on the appliance, switch it off and unplug it from the mains socket.

Changing the Die Holder Position (see Fig. A)

The die position can be adjusted by 360°. Four preset positions with 90° increments are available. The working positions can be set as follows:

  • Loosen the hex socket screw 2 using the supplied Allen key (large) 7.
  • Rotate the die holder 5 to the desired working position so that the respective bore in the die holder 5 points towards the hex socket screw 2.
  • Retighten the hex socket screw 2 firmly using the supplied Allen key (large) 7.
  • By lightly rotating the die holder 5, check if it is securely held in its correct position.

Permissible Material Thickness

The maximum cutting capacity depends on the material quality and strength. The measurement grooves 3 and 4 on the die holder 5 serve as a thickness gauge for the permissible cutting thickness. Never cut materials thicker than those indicated in the technical specifications.

Mounting and Dismounting the Splined Pin and Die Holder (see Fig. B + C)

To remove the splined pin 9 and the die holder 5, loosen the hex socket screw 2 using the supplied Allen key (large) 7.

Pull the die holder 5 off the appliance.

Loosen the hex socket screw (support) 8 using the supplied Allen key (small) 10 to remove the splined pin from the tool holder 11.

NOTE: If the splined pin 9 cannot be removed easily, use pliers, for example, to assist with removal.

For mounting, insert the new supplied splined pin into the tool holder 11 such that the bore in the splined pin 9 points towards the hex socket screw (support) 8.

Tighten the hex socket screw (support) 8 to secure the splined pin 9.

Guide and reinsert the die holder 5 via the tool holder 11 into the appliance.

Rotate the die holder 5 to the desired working position so that the respective bore in the die holder 5 points towards the hex socket screw 2.

Retighten the hex socket screw 2 firmly using the supplied Allen key (large) 7.

By lightly rotating the die holder 5, check if it is securely held in its correct position.

Operation

Switching On/Off

  • Switching on the appliance: Press the ON/OFF switch 1 to position "I".
  • Switching off the appliance: Press the ON/OFF switch 1 to position "0".

Lubrication

Apply commercially available machine oil to the cutting line to extend the service life of the splined pin 9 and the die 6. This is particularly important when cutting aluminum.

Cutting Operation

  • During machining, hold the appliance at a right angle (90°) to the workpiece.
  • Move the appliance in the cutting direction with light pressure.

Cutouts

For internal cutouts, a hole larger than 22.5 mm is required to insert the die holder 5.

Maintenance and Cleaning

⚠ WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! Before performing any work on the appliance, switch it off and unplug it from the mains socket.

The appliance must always be clean, dry, and free of oil or grease.

Use a dry cloth to clean the housing.

The carbon brushes must be removed and checked regularly. If they are worn down to the wear limit, they must be replaced. Always keep the carbon brushes clean so they can slide freely in the holders. Both carbon brushes must be replaced at the same time. Use only identical carbon brushes.

Unscrew the brush caps (lateral) 12 with a screwdriver. Remove the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones, and then screw the brush caps back on.

⚠ WARNING! If the power cord needs replacement, it must be carried out by the manufacturer or its representative to avoid hazardous situations.
