- Standard-sized, 19" wide rack with a minimum of 1U height available.
- For indoor applications: Use Category 5 (or above) UTP cabling approved for indoor use.
- For outdoor applications: Shielded Category 5 (or above) cabling should be used for all wired Ethernet connections and should be grounded through the AC ground of the power supply.
Ubiquiti recommends protecting networks from harmful outdoor environments and destructive ESD events using industrial-grade, shielded Ethernet cable. For more details, visit: ui.com/toughcable.
Note: While cabling can be located outdoors, the UDM-Pro itself should be housed inside a protective enclosure.
Installing an HDD
Ensure the device is powered off before installing a 3.5" or 2.5" HDD (not included).
The process involves sliding the HDD into a drive bay and securing it with screws. Specific steps are illustrated in the original document, showing how to remove a front cover, slide the drive in, and use screws to fasten it.
Removing an HDD
The process for removing an HDD involves releasing a latch or screw and sliding the drive out of its bay.
Hardware Installation (Rack Mounting)
To mount the UDM-Pro in a standard 19" rack:
- Attach the Rack-Mount Brackets to the sides of the UDM-Pro using the provided Bracket Screws.
- Secure the UDM-Pro with the attached brackets into the rack using appropriate rack screws (not included).
The document shows two methods for attaching the brackets, one using screws directly into the chassis and another using cage nuts and screws.
Connecting Power
Connect the included Power Cord to the Power Port on the rear of the UDM-Pro and plug the other end into a grounded power outlet.
Connecting to the Internet
Connect your internet source to the UDM-Pro:
- Via SFP+ Port: Use an SFP+ module and compatible cable (e.g., DAC or fiber optic) to connect to your modem or ISP equipment. For information about compatible fiber SFP modules, visit: ubnt.link/UniFi_SFP_DAC_Compatibility.
- Via RJ45 WAN Port: Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to the RJ45 WAN port (Port 9).
Connecting to the LAN
Connect your local network devices (computers, switches, etc.) to the UDM-Pro's RJ45 LAN ports (Ports 1-8) using Ethernet cables.
Configuration
You can configure the UDM-Pro using one of the following methods:
UniFi Network App:
Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device and use the UniFi Network app. Follow the on-screen instructions within the app.
The app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
Chrome Browser:
Ensure your computer is on the same Layer 2 network as the UDM-Pro.
Launch the Chrome web browser and navigate to https://setup.ui.com.
Follow the on-screen instructions of the Setup Wizard.
After completing the Setup Wizard, a login screen for the UniFi Network Controller management interface will appear. Enter the Username and Password created during the setup process and click Sign in.
