USG-PRO-4 Quick Start Guide

Introduction

This guide provides instructions for setting up and installing the Ubiquiti UniFi Security Gateway Pro (USG-PRO-4).

Note: Although cabling can be outdoors, the UniFi Gateway itself should be housed inside a protective enclosure.

IMPORTANT: Using a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and power regulation is strongly recommended to prevent equipment damage due to power stability issues.

Hardware Overview

The UniFi Security Gateway Pro features several ports and indicators:

Hardware Installation

1. Rack Mounting:

Attach the rack ears to the sides of the UniFi Security Gateway Pro using the provided screws. Mount the gateway into a standard 19" rack.

2. Power Connection:

Connect the provided power cord to the gateway and then to a power source.

Connecting Ethernet

Connect your network cables to the appropriate ports on the UniFi Security Gateway Pro.

Using SFP Ports

1. SFP Module Insertion:

Insert a compatible SFP module into one of the SFP ports (Ports 1-2).

Note: When an SFP module is used, the corresponding WAN port (RJ45) will be deactivated.

2. Fiber Optic Cable Connection:

Connect a fiber optic cable to the inserted SFP module.

Software Installation and Setup

Connect the UniFi Security Gateway Pro to your network and a management station. Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the UniFi Controller software.

If you already have UniFi Controller v4.8 or higher installed, access it to manage the gateway.

After installing the software and running the UniFi Installation Wizard, a login screen will appear for the UniFi Controller management interface. Enter the username and password you created and click Sign In.

You can manage your network and view statistics using the UniFi Controller management interface. For detailed information, refer to the User Guide available at ui.com/download/unifi.

Adopting the UniFi Gateway

  1. From the UniFi Controller dashboard, click Devices in the left menu bar.
  2. Locate the UniFi Gateway in the list of devices under the 'Model' column and click Adopt.

3. Confirmation: The System LED on the UniFi Gateway will turn blue to confirm successful adoption.

Optional WAN Port Configuration via Layer 3

By default, the WAN1 port is set to DHCP to automatically receive network settings from the service provider. To change this setting, connect a computer directly (or through a switch) to the LAN1 port of the UniFi Gateway.

  1. From a web browser, navigate to: https://setup.ui.com.
  2. Enter your username and password, then click Sign In.

Note: If the UniFi Gateway has not been adopted by a UniFi Controller, the login window will be skipped, and the Setup window will appear.

3. Edit Configuration: Click Edit Configuration to set the WAN1 port to DHCP, Static IP, or PPPoE.

Electrical Safety Information:

Ensure proper operation and prevent damage. Service should be provided only by qualified technicians. The equipment is provided with a detachable power cord with an integral safety ground wire intended for connection to a grounded safety outlet. Do not substitute the power cord with a non-approved type. Never use an adapter plug to connect to a 2-wire outlet, as this defeats the grounding wire continuity. The use of the ground wire is essential for safety certification; modification or misuse can create a shock hazard. Contact a qualified electrician for installation questions. Protective earthing is provided by a Listed AC adapter. Building installation should provide appropriate short-circuit backup protection. Protective bonding must comply with local national wiring rules and regulations.
