Congratulations on your purchase of the MAX Music KB1 keyboard. Please read this manual thoroughly to benefit fully from all features. Follow the instructions to avoid invalidating the warranty and take precautions to prevent fire and electrical shock. Repairs should only be carried out by qualified technicians.
Important Safety Precautions
- Consult a specialist before use. A slight smell may occur on first use, which is normal.
- Do not open the housing as it contains voltage-carrying parts.
- Do not place metal objects or liquids into the product.
- Avoid placing the product near heat sources, on vibrating surfaces, or covering ventilation holes.
- The product is not designed for continuous use.
- Handle the mains lead with care; a damaged lead can cause shock or malfunction.
- Always pull the plug, not the lead, when unplugging.
- Do not plug or unplug with wet hands.
- Damaged plugs or leads must be replaced by a qualified technician.
- If internal parts are visible due to damage, do not plug in or switch on; contact your dealer.
- Do not connect to a rheostat or dimmer.
- Protect the product from rain and moisture to prevent fire and shock hazards.
- All repairs must be performed by a qualified technician.
- Connect to an earthed mains outlet (220-240Vac/50Hz) protected by a 10-16A fuse.
- Unplug during thunderstorms or when not in use for extended periods.
- Allow the unit to reach room temperature before switching on if exposed to drastic temperature fluctuations to prevent condensation damage.
- Never use in humid rooms or outdoors.
- The housing may become hot during operation.
- Follow applicable guidelines to prevent accidents.
- Avoid repeatedly switching the product on and off, as this shortens its lifespan.
- Keep out of reach of children and do not leave unattended.
- Do not use cleaning sprays on switches; use a dry cloth for cleaning.
- Operate with clean hands and do not force controls.
- If the product is dropped, have it checked by a qualified technician before use.
- Do not use chemicals for cleaning; they can damage the finish.
- Keep away from equipment that may cause interference.
- Use only original spare parts for repairs.
- Switch off and unplug all leads and cables before moving the product.
- Ensure the mains lead is not damaged by foot traffic.
- Verify mains voltage matches your power outlet (220-240Vac/50Hz).
- Keep original packing material for safe transport.
- The product is CE certified; unauthorized modifications will invalidate the certificate and guarantee.
- Operate within a temperature range of 5°C/41°F to 35°C/95°F.
- Dispose of electric products responsibly at a recycling centre.
- Do not attempt self-repairs; this invalidates the warranty and MAX is not responsible for personal injury due to misuse or disregard of warnings.

Unpacking Instruction
Upon receiving the product, carefully unpack and check all parts. Notify the shipper immediately of any damage and retain packing material for inspection. Save the original factory box and packing for potential returns.
If the device has been exposed to drastic temperature fluctuations, do not switch it on immediately. Allow it to reach room temperature to prevent condensation damage.

Power Supply
Check the product label for the correct power supply voltage (100-240Vac/50Hz). Mismatched voltages can cause irreparable damage. Connect directly to the mains, not through a dimmer or adjustable power supply. Always connect to a protected circuit (circuit breaker or fuse) and ensure proper electrical grounding to prevent electrocution or fire.
Controls
The MAX KB1 features a comprehensive control panel. Below is a description of the main controls:
- 1. SPEAKERS:
- Reproduce the music's sound. Volume is adjusted via the volume setting.
- 2. POWER ON/OFF:
- Switch to turn the keyboard on or off.
- 3. FINGERED CHORD:
- Enables playing chords with individual notes in the left hand. Pressing the button activates "FIN" on the display, allowing chord input in the chord zone. Pressing again disables the function.
- 4. SINGLE CHORD:
- Enables playing single chords when rhythm is active. Pressing the button activates "SIN" on the display, allowing single chord input in the chord zone. Pressing again disables the function.
- 5. RECORD:
- Enables recording function ("REC" displayed). All played notes are recorded. "REC" flashes when storage is full, stopping recording. Press [Play] to playback recorded notes ("PLAY" displayed). Press [Start/Stop] or [Record] again to disable recording.
- 6. START/STOP:
- Starts or stops the selected program.
- 7. PROGRAM:
- Enables rhythm programming ("PRG" displayed). Allows creation of custom rhythms by playing percussion keys. Up to 32 percussions can be recorded. Press [Play] to playback programmed rhythms. Press [Start/Stop] or [Program] again to disable and clear recorded rhythms.
- 8. SYNC:
- When in rhythm mode, pressing [Sync] displays "SYN". Playing any key in the chord zone activates the accompaniment rhythm.
- 9. PLAY:
- Plays back recorded notes or rhythms.
- 10. FILL-IN:
- Adds a fill to the accompaniment rhythm. The type of fill depends on the selected rhythm. The accompaniment continues after the fill.
- 11. KEYBOARD PERCUSSION:
- Provides 61 keyboard percussions. Pressing [Percussion] turns the keyboard into a percussion instrument mode, with each key corresponding to an instrument. Pressing again disables this function.
- 12. SUSTAIN:
- Activates the sustain effect ("SUS" displayed). Pressing again disables it.
- 13. VIBRATO:
- Activates the vibrato effect ("VIB" displayed). Pressing again disables it.
- 14. LCD DISPLAY:
- Shows current mode, notes to play, rhythm, tempo, etc.
- 15. ONE-KEY TRAINING:
- Enables single-key training ("LEARN", "SONG" displayed). Use +/- to select songs. Focuses on duration learning, allowing mistakes but playing correct notes. Repeats the current song after completion. Press [Start/Stop] or [One Key] to disable.
- 16. FOLLOW TRAINING:
- Enables follow training ("LEARN", "SONG" displayed). Use +/- to select songs. Learn by following correct playing notes or displayed notes. The keyboard waits for correct input. Press [Start/Stop] or [Follow] to disable.
- 17. ENSEMBLE TRAINING:
- Enables ensemble training ("LEARN", "SONG" displayed). Use +/- to select songs. Aims for correct duration and notes. Keynote is shielded; play correct notes within 3 seconds or the keyboard plays it. Press [Start/Stop] or [Ensemble] to disable.
- 18. TIMBRE:
- Enables tone selection. Default is "000", adjustable via number buttons or +/-.
- 19. RHYTHM:
- Provides 255 rhythms (000-254), defaulting to "000". Select rhythms using the [Rhythm] button and number pad or +/- buttons. Press [Start/Stop] to start accompaniment. Press [Sync] to activate accompaniment by playing a key in the chord zone. Press [Fill-in] for interludes. Press [Start/Stop] to stop accompaniment.
- 20. DEMO SONG:
- Features 24 stored demo songs (000-023). Press [Demo Song] to play songs in order. Press [Demo Song] again to play the next song. Press [Start/Stop] to stop. Use num pad or +/- to select other demo songs.
- 21. NUM PAD:
- Numeric keys for entering values.
- 22. MASTER VOLUME:
- Adjusts master volume using [Master Vol +] or [Master Vol -]. Pressing both resets to default (10).
- 23. ACCOM VOLUME:
- Adjusts accompaniment volume using [Accomp Vol +] or [Accomp Vol -]. Pressing both resets to default (10).
- 24. TEMPO:
- Displays tempo value. Use number pad or +/- buttons to adjust tempo. Pressing both +/- buttons resets tempo to default (120 tempo/min).
- 25. PERCUSSIONS:
- Offers 8 panel percussions. Press one to play the corresponding percussion.
- 26. CHORD ZONE:
- The first 19 keys from the left, used for chord input.
Connections
The keyboard features the following connection ports:
- 27. AUDIO INPUT:
- Connect external audio devices here. Turn off both devices before connecting.
- 28. MICROPHONE INPUT:
- Connect a microphone to sing along while playing.
- 29. HEADPHONES/OUTPUT:
- Connect headphones here. This will automatically disable the loudspeakers, allowing private practice.
- 30. DC 9V INPUT:
- Socket for the supplied power adapter.
Auto Rhythm
The keyboard provides 255 rhythms (000-254), defaulting to "000". Select rhythms using the [Rhythm] button and number pad or +/- buttons.
Rhythm Control:
- Rhythm Enabling: Press [Start/Stop] to start accompaniment. In the enabled state, press [Sync] and play a key in the chord zone to activate the accompaniment rhythm.
- Interlude: Press [Fill-in] during accompaniment for a temporary rhythm play.
- Stop Rhythm: Press [Start/Stop] during accompaniment to stop it.
Tempo Adjustment:
The default tempo is 120 tempo/min. Use [Tempo +] or [Tempo -] to increase or decrease tempo by 1. Pressing both buttons simultaneously resets to the default tempo.
Effect Control
Sustain Function: Press [Sustain] to activate the sustain effect ("SUS" displayed). Press again to disable.
Vibrato Function: Press [Vibrato] to activate the vibrato effect ("VIB" displayed). Press again to disable.
Recording and Rhythm Programming
Recording:
Press [Record] to enable recording ("REC" displayed). All played notes are recorded. If storage is full, "REC" flashes, and recording stops. Press [Play] to playback recorded notes ("PLAY" displayed). Press [Start/Stop] or [Record] again to disable recording, which also removes all recorded rhythms.
Rhythm Programming:
Press [Program] to enable rhythm programming ("PRG" displayed). Keyboard percussion is activated. Create custom rhythms by playing percussion keys. Up to 32 percussions can be recorded. "PRG" flashes when programming stops. Press [Play] to playback programmed rhythms. Press [Start/Stop] or [Program] again to disable and clear all recorded rhythms.
Training Methods
The keyboard offers three training modes:
- Training I: One Key: Enables single-key training. Select songs using +/-. Focuses on duration, allowing mistakes but playing correct notes. Repeats the current song. Press [Start/Stop] or [One Key] to disable.
- Training II: Follow: Enables follow training. Select songs using +/-. Learn by following correct playing notes or displayed notes. The keyboard waits for correct input. Press [Start/Stop] or [Follow] to disable.
- Training III: Ensemble: Enables ensemble training. Select songs using +/-. Aims for correct duration and notes. Keynote is shielded; play correct notes within 3 seconds or the keyboard plays it. Press [Start/Stop] or [Ensemble] to disable.

MAX Music recommends the following apps to enhance piano learning:
- PIANO DUST BUSTER: An introductory app for kids, requiring no prior experience. It helps with reading notation and offers challenges. (iOS compatible only)
- PIANO MAESTRO: An in-depth educational tool for learning piano, including sight-reading, rhythm, and technique. It offers personalized learning paths and includes digital piano method books. (iOS-iPad compatible only)
- SIMPLY PIANO: An app for beginners and experienced players, guiding users from scratch to playing with both hands. It provides instant feedback and covers various genres and levels. (iOS and Android compatible)

The keyboard includes 255 built-in rhythms, categorized by genre and style. These range from popular music styles like Disco, Rock & Roll, Pop, Jazz, and Latin, to ballads, dance, and classical influences. Specific examples include 8 Beat Modern, Country Ballad, Hard Rock, Waltz, Bossa Nova, Hully Gully, Jive, Love Song, Medium Jazz, Modern Country Pop, Modern R&B, Pasodoble, Samba, Schlager Rock, Tarantella, Electro Pop, Fusion, Hip Shuffle, and many others, offering a diverse selection for accompaniment.
