Light Distribution Angle

Lighting distribution angle refers to the spread of light emitted from a light source. It is an important factor when selecting a fixture or bulb, as it affects how it will illuminate an area.

There are two main types of lighting distribution angles:

  • Symmetric lighting distribution: Emits light evenly in all directions, creating a cone-shaped pattern that provides a pool of light. Ideal for general lighting and illuminating large areas. Common applications include general area illumination, security lighting, and perimeter lighting.
  • Asymmetric lighting distribution (beam angle): Creates a pattern that focuses light in a specific direction. Ideal for task lighting as it reduces glare and light spill. Common applications include task lighting in spaces like landscape settings, retail stores, and museums.

The lighting distribution angle can also be affected by factors such as the reflector design, the type of lens used, and the distance between the light source and the illuminated surface.

Diagram Description: The document includes a polar plot showing the average beam angle (50%) as 114.2 degrees, with specific readings for C0/180 (114.5°) and C90/270 (114.0°). The text notes that this page can be skipped if not interested in technical details.
