Safety Precautions
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, observe the following:
- Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Contact the manufacturer for questions.
- Before servicing or cleaning, switch power OFF at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent accidental power restoration. If locking is not possible, fasten a prominent warning device (e.g., a tag) to the service panel.
- Installation and electrical wiring must be performed by a qualified person according to all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes.
- Ensure sufficient air for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow heating equipment manufacturer guidelines and safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, local codes).
- When cutting or drilling into walls or ceilings, do not damage electrical wiring or other hidden utilities.
- Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.
- This unit must be grounded.
CAUTION
- For general ventilation use only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.
- For installation in flat ceilings only.
- To avoid motor bearing damage and noisy/unbalanced impellers, keep drywall spray, construction dust, etc., away from the power unit.
- Refer to the product specification label for further information and requirements.
Cleaning & Maintenance
For quiet, efficient operation, long life, and attractive appearance, remove the grille and vacuum the interior of the unit with a dusting brush attachment. The motor is permanently lubricated and requires no oiling. If motor bearings make excessive or unusual noises, replace the blower assembly (motor and impeller).
Operation
Operate this ventilator using an on/off switch or a speed control. Refer to the "Wiring Diagram" section for details.
All Installations

Important Note: The ducting from this fan to the outside of the building significantly affects airflow, noise, and energy use. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing for optimal performance. Avoid using ducts smaller than recommended. Duct insulation can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated airflow.
Diagram: Cooking Area Exclusion: Illustrates a cooking appliance with an exclusion zone marked by 45° angles above and around it. The product should not be installed above or within this area.
Installation Components Overview: Shows typical components for installation including a roof cap with damper, fan housing, power cable, 4-inch round duct, wall cap with damper, and insulation. It notes that some components must be purchased separately.
Option: A Hanger Bar Kit (sold separately) is available for mounting the housing between ceiling framing.
- Remove the blower and all packing material from the fan housing.
- Remove the wiring panel from the fan housing (if already installed).
- Attach flanges to the housing if desired or required. Snap both flange pieces under the rolled-over edge of the housing on all four sides.
- Attach grille brackets to the housing. The brackets are located in the Styrofoam packing material in the box.
New Construction Installation
For Retrofit Installation, skip to Page 5.
- Attach the damper/duct connector to the fan housing. Push the connector through the opening from inside the housing, engage the tabs, and secure with a screw from the parts bag.
- Mount the housing to the ceiling structure. Ensure the bottom of the housing is flush with the finished ceiling. For 1/2" ceiling material, bend out the housing tabs to fit against the bottom of the structure. Secure the housing using mounting ears and appropriate fasteners (not included). If mounting to an I-joist, use wood blocking as shown.
- Connect the 4-inch round duct.
- Connect the wiring. Connect the power cable to the housing using an appropriate UL-approved connector (not included). Make wiring connections as shown in the "Wiring Diagram" section. Reinstall the wiring panel and secure it with a screw from the parts bag.
Retrofit Installation
- Remove the old fan. Enlarge the ceiling opening if necessary to 9 3/4 inches (parallel to joist) by 10 1/2 inches (perpendicular to joist). Leave existing ductwork and wiring in place.
- Fold mounting ears flat against the housing.
- Install the blower. Reinstall the blower, secure it with two screws from the parts bag, and plug its connector into the black receptacle.
- Finish the ceiling, then install the grille. Attach the MOUNTING PLATE to the housing using two SCREWS and the GRILLE BRACKETS installed in step 4. Connect the LIGHT PANEL PLUG to the receptacle in the housing corner. Place the LIGHT PANEL SLOT over the HOOK on the MOUNTING PLATE. Swing the opposite side of the LIGHT PANEL up to the MOUNTING PLATE and secure with the ATTACHMENT SCREW. Align the GRILLE FRAME with the three LIGHT PANEL OPENINGS and rotate the GRILLE FRAME clockwise to secure it to the LIGHT PANEL.
Wiring Diagram
The wiring diagram illustrates connections for the fan, light, switch box, and power source (120 VAC LINE IN). It shows connections for optional dual control, light, and fan receptacles, using color codes: BLACK, WHITE, RED, and GROUND (bare).
