Safety Warnings
WARNING ⚠️
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have questions, contact the manufacturer at the address or telephone number listed in the warranty.
- Before servicing or cleaning unit, switch power off at service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
- Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by a qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction codes and standards.
- Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer's guideline and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the local code authorities.
- When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
- Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.
- Acceptable for use over a tub or shower when connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) - protected branch circuit (ceiling installation only).
- This unit must be grounded.
- Do not use this fan with any solid-state speed control device.
- Do not use replacement parts that have not been recommended by Broan NuTone LLC.
- If the fan makes excessive noise or if there is unusual noise or smells of smoke. Disconnect power supply and contact customer service.
- The wearing of safety glasses and gloves is recommended when installing, maintaining or cleaning the unit to reduce the risk of injury that could be caused by the presence of thin metal and/or moving parts.
CAUTION ⚠️
- For general ventilating use only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.
- Install the fan at least 8 feet (2.4 m) above the floor.
- To avoid motor bearing damage and noisy and/or unbalanced impellers, keep drywall spray, construction dust, etc. off power unit.
- Please read specification label on product for further information and requirements.
Cleaning & Maintenance
To Clean the Grille:
Remove the grille and grille trim. Plastic parts can be cleaned with mild detergent, such as dishwashing liquid. Dry with a soft cloth. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLOTH, STEEL WOOL PADS OR SCOURING POWDERS.
To Clean Interior of the Unit:
Once the grille and grille trim are removed, gently vacuum interior of the unit with the dusting brush attachment.
The motor is permanently lubricated and never needs oiling. If the motor bearings are making excessive or unusual noises, replace the blower assembly (includes motor and impeller).
Operation
Use an on/off switch to operate the fan/light. The fan and light can be operated separately. Use appropriate 2-function wall control. Refer to Broan-NuTone catalog for a complete line of accessories/ controls to effectively adapt these fans to your requirements.
Installation Instructions
General Installation Notes & Diagrams
Cooking Area Restriction: Do not install above or inside a cooking area.
Ducting Recommendations: The ducting from this fan to the outside of the building has a strong effect on the air flow, noise, and energy use of the fan. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing possible for best performance. Avoid installing the fan with smaller ducts than recommended. Insulation around the ducts can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated airflow.
Diagram 1 (Page 1): Illustrates installation restrictions, showing a 45-degree angle from cooking equipment. It also shows recommended ducting: keep duct runs short, use 4-inch round ducting, seal duct joints with tape, and use 4-inch round elbows. It shows placement of insulation around the fan housing, a roof cap with a built-in damper, and a wall cap with a built-in damper.
Diagram 2 (Page 1): Shows the option to mount housing anywhere between ceiling framing using an optional Hanger Bar Kit.
Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Remove Components
Remove the blower assembly and wiring panel from the packaging.
Diagram (Page 2): Shows the blower assembly being lifted out and the wiring panel being accessed.
Step 2: Mount Housing
Choose one option to mount the housing to the ceiling structure:
- New Construction: Mount the housing to the ceiling joist, using wood blocking if required. The housing has mounting ears for this purpose.
- Retrofit: For retrofit installations, bend the housing ears inward and use the packaging mask to cut the opening to the correct size if needed. The housing can be secured using angled screw holes.
Other Options: Hanger bars (sold separately, Model Number MHB4) or Flange Install (refer to installation video).
Diagram (Page 2): Illustrates New Construction mounting to an I-joist with optional wood blocking, and Retrofit mounting with angled screw holes.
Step 3: Attach Duct Connector
Choose one option to attach the duct connector:
- New Construction: Install the duct connector using a screw from the parts bag, ensuring tabs engage in the housing. Then, attach new construction ductwork with foil tape.
- Retrofit: Pull ductwork into the housing and attach to the duct connector with foil tape. Then, install the duct connector (use screw from parts bag and ensure tabs engage in housing).
Pro Tip: The first and last 18 inches of the ducting should be rigid or stretched straight for expected performance.
Diagram (Page 3): Shows attaching the duct connector with tabs and screws, and sealing with foil tape for both New Construction and Retrofit.
Step 4: Connect Wiring
Connect the wiring according to the diagram. Wires are typically color-coded:
- Black: Hot/Switched
- White: Neutral
- Ground (Green/Copper): Ground
- Red: Hot/Switched (if applicable, e.g., for separate light control)
Connect to the 2-function wall control.
Diagram (Page 3): Shows the wiring connections from the unit to a wall control, with color-coded wires. A QR code is present for helpful hints.
Step 5: Attach Wire Enclosure
Attach the wire enclosure by its tab and secure with a screw.
Diagram (Page 3): Shows securing the wire enclosure.
Step 6: Re-install Wiring Panel
Re-install the wiring panel and secure it with a screw from the parts bag.
Diagram (Page 3): Shows re-installing the wiring panel.
Step 7: Install Blower Assembly & Plug In
Install the blower assembly with the provided screws. Plug in the blower. Note: For new construction, use the mask from the packaging to protect the blower until the ceiling is finished.
Diagram (Page 4): Shows installing the blower assembly and plugging it in.
Step 8: Install Grille Trim
Install the grille trim with screws from the parts bag.

Step 9: Plug in LED Module
Connect the LED module wiring.
Diagram (Page 4): Shows plugging in the LED module.
Step 10: Install Grille
Install the grille by sliding its clips into the grille trim.
Diagram (Page 4): Shows the grille being slid into the trim, with an arrow indicating the motion. Note: Grille may look different depending on the model.
