Aprilaire Humidifier Control: Safety and Installation

This guide provides essential safety and installation instructions for the Aprilaire Humidifier Control. It is crucial that installation is performed by a qualified heating and air conditioning contractor to prevent electrical shock and ensure proper operation.

Important Warnings and Cautions

  • WARNING: 120 volts can cause serious injury or death. Always disconnect electrical power to the furnace before installation.
  • WARNING: Sharp edges may cause injury. Handle components with care.
  • CAUTION: Do not set humidity levels too high, as this may result in condensation damage.
  • CAUTION: Avoid mounting the control on supply plenums or ducts, as unit temperatures may cause malfunction.

Installation Steps Overview

Follow these steps for a successful installation:

  1. Unpack and Verify Components: Ensure all parts, including the Humidifier Control, Outdoor Temperature Sensor, and Manual Mode Label, are present.
  2. Prepare the Control: Remove the door from the Humidifier Control.
  3. Check Mode Switch: Set the BYPASS/POWER switch according to your humidifier model.
  4. Set Water Panel Indicator: Adjust the setting to remind you when to change the Water Panel, if necessary.
  5. Determine Location: Mount the Humidifier Control in the return duct, at least 6 inches upstream of the humidifier or bypass ductwork.
  6. Mount the Sensor: Install the Outdoor Temperature Sensor on the North, East, or West side of the house, out of direct sunlight and away from exhaust vents.
  7. Wire the Control: Connect the sensor and power source (24 VAC) to the appropriate terminals. Refer to wiring diagrams for specific connections.
  8. System Checkout: Perform a system test to ensure the humidifier operates correctly.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the detailed troubleshooting guide within the document for common issues such as the humidifier not operating in 'Test' mode, the 'Change Water Panel' indicator being lit, or the control 'chattering'. Ensure correct wiring and sensor resistance for proper function.
