Aprilaire 1850 Series Dehumidifier Specification Sheet

Product Overview

The Aprilaire 1850 Series Dehumidifiers are designed for whole-home dehumidification, effectively controlling moisture in basements, crawl spaces, and other areas. They can also circulate air to even out humidity and temperature throughout a space.

The units feature a built-in digital control with a display and offer flexible installation options. They are designed for efficient operation and durability.

Principle of Operation

The Aprilaire 1850 Series Dehumidifiers work by drawing in air and passing it over an evaporator coil. This process cools the air below its dew point, causing moisture to condense and be removed from the unit via a drain. The air is then reheated by the condenser coil before being expelled back into the space. Dehumidification continues until the set point is reached, after which the unit cycles off and periodically samples the air to determine if further operation is needed.

Application

The 1850 Series is ideal for a wide range of applications, including whole-home dehumidification and managing moisture levels in basements and crawl spaces.

Circulation

The 1850 Series can be programmed to circulate air, which helps to equalize relative humidity and temperature levels across the treated space, thereby minimizing environmental variations.

Installation Options

The Aprilaire 1850 Series Dehumidifiers can be installed in horizontal or vertical applications. Shown below are common ducting configurations:

Main Return to Main Return - RECOMMENDED

This configuration is suitable when a supply duct is not available. Air is drawn from the return duct, dehumidified, and then returned to the same duct. This method ensures the dehumidified air mixes thoroughly with the existing air before re-entering the house, making it ideal for whole-home dehumidification.

Dedicated Return to Main Supply or Dedicated Return to A/C Return

This option is useful when a dedicated return or supply duct is unavailable. Air is drawn through a dedicated return grille, dehumidified, and then returned to either the supply plenum or the return duct. This is also designed for whole-home dehumidification.

Inlet and Outlet ducted to dedicated grilles

This setup is for homes without existing ductwork. The Model 5546 Living Space Duct Kit is recommended for this application. It is used to dry specific areas with moisture issues, such as basements, crawl spaces, or sealed attics. The dehumidifier can be placed in a closet, mechanical room, or unfinished area and ducted into a finished room.

Main Return to Main Supply

Air is drawn from the return duct, dehumidified, and then returned to the supply plenum. This configuration is intended for whole-home dehumidification.
