Understanding Heat Pump Performance Metrics
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)
This rating determines a heat pump's cooling efficiency. A higher SEER rating indicates greater energy efficiency.
Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF)
This is a heating efficiency rating for heat pumps. A higher-rated HSPF heat pump uses less energy and provides increased energy savings over its lifespan.
Dual-Fuel Compatibility
An HVAC system that pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace, alternating between the two fuel sources to maximize comfort and efficiency based on outdoor conditions.
ENERGY STAR® Certified
HVAC equipment bearing the ENERGY STAR label meets or exceeds federal guidelines for energy-efficient performance, contributing to lower energy consumption.
Quantum™ Coil
Lennox's exclusive Quantum™ Coil is constructed from a proprietary aluminum alloy, offering improved resistance to corrosion. This design results in enhanced performance and greater energy savings.
5-Year Limited Warranty on Covered Components
Covered components may be eligible for an extended 10-year warranty. To qualify, online equipment registration at lennoxregistration.com is required within 60 days of installation (exceptions apply in California and Quebec). If registration is not completed, Lennox's base warranty terms will apply. This warranty applies to residential applications only. Please refer to the actual warranty certificate for complete details.
Understanding Stage Control in Heat Pumps
Heat pumps operate using different control stages to manage heating and cooling output. Understanding these stages helps in appreciating the comfort and efficiency differences:
Single-Stage Operation
The unit operates at one fixed capacity – either fully on or fully off. This can lead to noticeable temperature swings within your home as the system cycles on and off.
Two-Stage Operation
The unit has two operating speeds: low and high. It typically runs at the lower speed for about 80% of the time, providing more consistent temperatures and improved efficiency compared to single-stage systems.
Variable-Capacity Operation
This advanced system offers the highest level of comfort and efficiency. The unit can adjust its output to numerous levels, running at low capacity most of the time. It precisely modulates its operation to use only the necessary amount of energy to maintain your desired comfort level.
