If liquids have entered the housing or spilled into the oven, immediately unplug the power cord. Dry the appliance and then allow it to air dry with the oven door open for at least 1 day.
High Temperatures – Burn Hazard!
The appliance is designed for cooking food. The heating elements inside the oven cavity are electrically heated to very high temperatures (up to red heat). Ensure you do not touch the heating elements with your hands or any objects or food items while the oven is in operation or shortly thereafter.
- Do not place any objects (e.g., paper, plastic packaging, plastic film) or cloths in or on the oven during operation to avoid overheating and fire. Remove all unused accessories from the oven.
- Do not place food in the oven that is packaged in unsuitable materials (e.g., cling film, plastic containers) to avoid poisoning, overheating, fire, short circuits, and damage to the appliance. Operate the oven only with the crumb tray correctly inserted.
- The exterior surfaces and the oven door become hot during operation. Do not place the appliance near heat-sensitive objects. Note that metal surfaces near or under the oven can become hot during operation. Only touch the appliance at the control elements during operation and for some time afterward.
- Always let the appliance cool down completely before removing the crumb tray, cleaning the appliance, or moving it. Use oven mitts when moving or touching hot parts.
- Ensure that no food items or objects (e.g., aluminum foil, roasting pans, skewers, cookware) touch the heating elements above and below in the oven to avoid hazards from overheating and fire, and to prevent damage to the oven. Use only fire- and heat-resistant, non-flammable containers (e.g., ovenproof glass, ceramic, or metal).
- Do not use airtight containers, as food and air expand when heated, which can cause the container to explode. Place accessories (e.g., inserts, pizza stone) on heat-resistant surfaces only after use. Let food cool slightly before consuming.
- During operation, hot steam and hot air can escape from the oven door and ventilation slots. This is particularly true when opening the oven door. Never place your hands, arms, or face over the appliance during operation to avoid burns.
- Never cover the crumb tray or other oven parts with foil or baking paper to prevent overheating, fire, and short circuits. Do not cook food on the crumb tray.
- Never operate the appliance near curtains, table decorations, or other flammable, heat- and/or moisture-sensitive materials or flammable liquids (high-proof alcoholic beverages) to avoid hazards from heat, fire, and electricity. Never operate the appliance under hanging lamps or shelves.
- Food can char and catch fire at high temperatures! Ensure you do not exceed the required cooking times and check the food regularly during cooking. Clean the oven after each use and carefully remove all food residues.
- Immediately unplug the power cord if a serious problem occurs during operation (e.g., overheating, fire). If smoke rises from the oven cavity or food catches fire during use, KEEP THE OVEN DOOR CLOSED! Sudden oxygen supply can cause a flashover. Wait under careful observation until the oven has cooled down and the food is no longer smoking, then carefully open the oven door and remove the burnt food. Have the oven inspected by an authorized service center afterward.
Moving Parts
The rotor drive can move during operation and rotate the installed rotisserie. Do not touch the rotisserie with your hands or any foreign objects (e.g., spoon, ladle, fork) during rotor operation to avoid damage to the appliance and burns on hot oven parts. Always pause the oven's running program using the Start/Pause button before reaching into the oven.

Features of Your New Oven
Your new GASTROBACK Design Oven Air Fry & Pizza is an electrically heated oven that can be connected to a standard grounded socket (see: 'Important Safety Information for Handling Electricity'). This means you are not dependent on a fixed power connection.
- Works like a big one: The Design Oven Air Fry & Pizza has all the essential features and capabilities of a 'large' oven, allowing you to cook almost any dish you would prepare in your kitchen oven.
- Special Air-Fry Function and Normal Convection: The convection fan can be operated at 2 speed settings. Select a program with high convection power (Air-Fry) to use the oven as a hot air fryer. At low temperatures, you can dry food (see: 'Convection and Air-Fry Functions'). For standard tasks, use the normal convection setting.
- Efficient Energy Use: Due to its practical design, the oven reaches its maximum temperature in a surprisingly short time (5-6 minutes) with surprisingly low power consumption compared to conventional kitchen ovens.
- Quick Response to Setting Changes: You can change the cooking time and temperature settings at any time. The oven responds to temperature increases within seconds. Due to the compact oven cavity, lower temperatures are also reached quickly. This gives you full control over the cooking process (see: 'Internal Heating Elements').
- Upper and Lower Heat Selectable Separately or Together: Simply select the corresponding program.
- Audible Signals: Every button press is confirmed by an audible signal. Important steps in preparation and operation are also announced. The Pizza program signals when the oven has reached the set temperature. The Fry program signals halfway through the cooking time, prompting you to turn the food. Multiple beeps sound when programs are finished.
- 4 Programs for Special Tasks: Toasting, Defrosting, Pizza baking, and making French fries.
Notes
- Toast Program: Normally, the cooking time is displayed in minutes. However, when you select the Toast program, the time display switches to seconds, as toasting bread slices can lead to significant changes in just a few seconds.
- Pizza Stone and Pizza Program: The pizza stone is recommended for homemade pizza. Place the pizza stone on the grill rack and select the middle rack in the oven if possible (see: '3 Racks in the Oven Cavity'). Note: If you anticipate juice from the filling leaking over the pizza stone, you can place the baking tray under the grill rack to protect the lower heating elements and the crumb tray.
- Preheating: Normally, you do not need to preheat the oven (see: 'Internal Heating Elements'). If you do wish to preheat (e.g., to preheat a baking dish or the pizza stone), use the audible signal that the oven emits when the set oven temperature is reached for the Pizza program. Preheating takes approximately 5 minutes (starting from room temperature). The oven automatically pauses the program after preheating, allowing you to conveniently place the prepared pizza in the oven cavity.
- Rotisserie and 2 Rotor Programs: The rotisserie is suitable for all foods of appropriate size that can be securely fixed on the rotisserie, do not fall apart during cooking, and do not come too close to the heating elements. You can use the rotor drive with both convection fan settings (normal and Air-Fry). Simply select the corresponding program (see: 'Tips for Best Results / Grilling with the Rotisserie').
- Keypad Lock (Child Lock): Use this function to lock the controls against accidental input (see: 'Using the Keypad Lock').
- Automatic Shut-off: If the oven is inactive for more than 3 minutes (no program running, pause function activated, no input), it will automatically switch to standby mode: the console darkens, only the On/Off button flashes, and paused programs are canceled. This ensures the oven does not run unnecessarily if you forget to turn it off.
Internal Heating Elements
The smaller oven cavity and the internal heating elements offer several advantages over conventional ovens: they save energy, time, and money.
- The set temperature is reached within a few minutes. In most cases, preheating is completely unnecessary. Especially at high temperatures, the cooking process begins within seconds due to the radiant heat from the heating elements.
- Depending on the type of food, the required cooking time can be significantly shorter and the temperature lower.
- The oven reacts particularly quickly to changes in settings (upper and lower heat, temperature). This gives you complete control over the cooking process.
3 Racks in the Oven Cavity
You can insert the accessories (grill rack, wire basket, and baking tray) into the oven cavity in 3 different positions. This allows you to adjust the position of your food in the oven according to the size of the food and the heat distribution in the oven. The following table provides some guidance for selecting the correct rack.
IMPORTANT: Maintain a minimum clearance of 3 cm (the width of a teaspoon) between the heating elements and the food at all times during the cooking process. At high temperatures, maintain even more clearance.
CAUTION: The inserts can be inserted directly under the upper heating elements. Never operate the oven with the baking tray or grill rack in this position to avoid overheating the oven. You can insert the wire basket into this position, but we advise against it due to the small clearance to the heating elements.
Rack | Use |
---|---|
Top | Grill steaks of most meat types on the grill rack or toast simple bread and thinly spread sandwiches. Also, insert the wire basket for hot air frying and drying. CAUTION: Remember that some foods may increase in volume and thickness when heated. Always ensure that the food does not come too close to the heating elements in the oven. If in doubt, use the middle rack. |
Middle | This position is best for baking, roasting, reheating, defrosting, toasting, and for pizza. Also use this rack if the grilled item does not fit on the top rack (e.g., shish kebabs, stuffed meat pieces, thick burgers). |
Bottom | The bottom rack provides ample space for cooking, reheating, and keeping warm all larger items. However, use this position primarily for various roasts. If you only use the top heat (lower heating elements switched off), you will achieve particularly even results on this rack. CAUTION: The wire basket for frying and drying must NOT be inserted into this rack. In the bottom rack, the wire basket will touch the heating elements, which can lead to overheating and damage to the appliance. |
Separately Selectable Upper and Lower Heat
The oven cavity is equipped with 4 upper and 2 lower heating elements that can be switched on and off separately for the cooking process. This allows you to precisely adjust the heat distribution in the oven cavity using upper and lower heat for preparing your dishes. Select the corresponding function.
The convection fan ensures particularly even heat distribution (see: 'Convection and Air-Fry Functions').
Note: At high temperatures, a significant portion of heat transfer occurs through direct radiation from the heating elements, which speeds up the cooking process. The convection function has no influence on this. Therefore, always maintain sufficient distance from the heating elements to ensure even browning of your food.
Convection and Air-Fry Functions
The oven can operate with 2 convection settings. In normal operation, the convection fan runs at reduced power and ensures even heat distribution in the oven cavity.
With the Air-Fry functions, you activate the full power of the convection fan. This allows the oven to perform unusual tasks, such as frying fresh food without any fat. This function operates solely with hot air. Try making French fries from fresh potatoes.
Since the temperature and cooking time are freely adjustable, you can also perform unusual tasks with the Air-Fry functions. For example, at temperatures of 55-80 °C, you can dry fruits, vegetables, herbs, and much more.
Controls, Displays, and Dials
The controls on the oven console, along with the displays and sensor buttons, are located behind a continuous cover plate: without any grooves or crevices. This allows for quick and easy thorough cleaning (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
- The set temperature appears in °C (55-220) as the default setting in the center of the console. While a program is running, the actual temperature in the oven or the remaining cooking time can be displayed.
- You can switch between temperature and cooking time. To do this, briefly press the center of the right dial (dial button).
- Use this right dial button to select the temperature unit: °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit). Press and hold the dial button for approximately 5 seconds while the temperature is displayed.
- Select the desired program by turning the left program dial. The symbol for the selected program will flash, and the preset temperature will appear on the display.
- Press the center of the program dial to confirm your selection. All other program symbols will dim.
- Once a program is selected, you can set the temperature and cooking time by turning the right dial. The appliance will always operate with the values shown on the display.
Available Buttons
The sensor buttons on the console respond to light touch. You do not need to press them.
- Light Button: Switches the oven light on and off. The light symbol on the display illuminates when the oven light is on. This allows you to check the function of the bulb if necessary (see: 'Replacing the Oven Light').
- Lock Button (Keypad Lock): Press and hold this button for approximately 3 seconds to lock or unlock all controls against accidental changes. The corresponding symbol illuminates when the controls are locked. Note: When a program is started, generally only the buttons remain active. The program dial (left) and setting dial (right) are immediately locked (see: 'Pause Function'). With the manual keypad lock, all controls (except the lock button) are locked.
- On/Off Button: Switches the oven on or off. The button flashes when the oven is switched off and all other displays remain dark (standby mode). When a program is running, you can cancel the program with this button and immediately switch to standby mode.
- Start/Pause Button: Press here to start the selected program with the currently set values or to pause a running program (see: 'Pause Function' and 'Operation / Starting the Program'). Press the Start/Pause button again to resume the program. Note: When you pause the program, the current temperature and cooking time settings are retained but can be changed as desired (right dial) without canceling the program. If you select a different program (left dial), the running program is automatically canceled.
Symbols for Programs and Functions
- Light Button: Illuminates when the oven light is on.
- Lock Button (Keypad Lock): Illuminates when the keypad lock (child lock) is activated.
- Operation Symbol: Rotates while a program is running.
- Toast Symbol: The dots to the right of the toast symbol indicate the selected browning level. The more dots illuminated, the darker the toast. The program operates with upper and lower heat. Note: When using the toast program, the time is displayed in seconds. The entry 'min' behind the time display will dim.
- Defrost Symbol: Use this program to defrost frozen food. The temperature is fixed at 60°C.
- Pizza Symbol: This program is used for baking pizza, among other things, and operates with the Air-Fry function as well as upper and lower heat (2 upper and 2 lower heating elements). Note: The oven emits an audible signal when the set temperature is reached (see: 'Oven Functions and Preset Programs'). You may want to use the pizza stone.
- Fry Symbol: Select this program for preparing French fries from pre-made frozen fries or fresh potatoes. The program operates with the Air-Fry function and top heat (4 upper heating elements). Distribute the prepared potato strips on the wire basket. Note: The oven emits an additional 5 beeps halfway through the set cooking time so you can turn your food at the optimal moment for even browning.
- Air-Fry Top Heat Symbol: This program in the Air-Fry range is for most applications where the convection fan should operate at maximum power with only top heat (4 upper heating elements).
- Air-Fry Rotor Symbol: This rotor program operates with high-speed convection. Grilled food on the rotisserie gets a particularly even, crispy crust (see: 'Oven Functions and Preset Programs'). Only the upper heating elements (4 heating elements) are activated (top heat).
- Top Heat Symbol: Only the upper heating elements (2 heating elements) are activated.
- Bottom Heat Symbol: Only the lower heating elements (2 heating elements) are activated.
- Upper and Lower Heat Symbol: All heating elements (2 upper and 2 lower heating elements) are activated.

Pizza Program Sequence
For baking pizza, we recommend using the supplied pizza stone and the Pizza program. This program is optimized for the pizza stone. However, you can also bake your pizza on the baking tray.
Place the pizza stone on the grill rack and select the middle rack in the oven if possible. If you expect juice from the filling to leak over the pizza stone, you can slide the baking tray under the grill rack. This protects the lower heating elements and the crumb tray.
- Once you start the Pizza program, the oven displays the actual temperature in the oven cavity. The Pizza program operates with the Air-Fry function as well as upper and lower heat.
- Preheating the oven is generally not necessary. If you do preheat, you can orient yourself by the audible signal that the oven emits when the set oven temperature is reached. Preheating takes approximately 5 minutes (starting from room temperature).
- The oven automatically pauses the program after preheating, allowing you to conveniently place the prepared pizza in the oven cavity if you have preheated.
- After a pause of approximately 3 minutes, the oven automatically continues (with Air-Fry operation) and starts counting down the cooking time (10 minutes). Manual intervention is usually not required.
Pause Function
You can pause a running program at any time using the Start/Pause button. In this case, the cooking time will not continue, the heating elements will be switched off, and the rotisserie will stop.
- Use this function to check the condition of your food or to change the temperature and cooking time as desired.
- With the oven program paused, you can change the temperature and cooking time as desired (see: 'Operation / Monitoring the Cooking Process and Adjusting Settings').
- Once you resume the program with the Start/Pause button, the oven will continue with the changed settings.
The paused program will be completely canceled in the following cases:
- You select a different program using the program dial. You can then set the newly selected program (see: 'Operation / Checking and Changing Settings').
- You press the On/Off button to switch off the oven (standby mode).
- You do not make any input for more than 3 minutes. In this case, the oven will automatically switch off (standby mode). After switching off, you cannot resume the canceled cooking process. You must reconfigure and start the oven.
Using the Keypad Lock
When a program is running, the oven will not respond to the right and left dials in any case. Only the sensor buttons remain accessible. With the keypad lock, you can additionally disable the On/Off button and the Start/Pause button.
To activate and deactivate the keypad lock: Press and hold the Lock button for at least 3 seconds to lock the buttons. Repeat this process to unlock the buttons. When the keypad lock is activated, the lock symbol ? illuminates on the console.
Accessories
Accessory | Use |
---|---|
Baking Tray | Baking: Breads and rolls, cookies, yeast dough pastries, and yeast cakes (without baking dish). Roasting/Grilling: Pieces that are too small for the grill rack or fall apart during cooking (e.g., fish); contact grilling of thin slices. All items you would cook in a grill pan. Note: Due to the non-stick coating, you can distribute most foods directly on the baking tray. Alternatively, you can line the baking tray with aluminum foil (e.g., for meat and fish) or baking paper (for cakes and cookies). For contact grilling, use the bottom rack and the program with bottom heat. Preheat the baking tray at 220°C. The food should be at room temperature initially. Depending on the type and condition of the food, you may need to drain excess roasting juices in between. |
Grill Rack | Baking and reheating in ovenproof baking dishes or in aluminum foil packs: gratins, cakes, pizzas, and other baked goods with a yeast dough base on the pizza stone. Roasting and braising in ovenproof roasting dishes or (with limitations) in a Roman pot. Grilling: All items that are large enough and do not fall apart during cooking (e.g., meat, vegetables, shish kebabs, sausages). Place the baking tray under the grill rack to catch drips. Note: For small items, you can also use the wire basket. Place baking dishes, roasting dishes, pizza stones, and foil packs directly on the grill rack and select a rack so that the container is no more than 3 cm from the upper heating elements. Reasonably firm foods can be placed directly on the grill rack. In this case, do not forget to slide the baking tray into the bottom rack to protect the lower heating elements from drips and crumbs. Roman pots must be soaked before use. Always preheat Roman pots slowly in several stages. Otherwise, they could crack! |
Wire Basket | Air-Fry (Hot Air Frying): Foods you would cook in a deep fryer (e.g., French fries and potato chips, breaded meat, breaded cheese). Drying: Arrange the food items individually in the wire basket. Select a temperature of max. 80 °C. The process typically takes 6-10 hours (depending on thickness, moisture content of the food, and set temperature). Baking/Grilling: All items that are too small for the grill rack but do not fall apart too much. Note: When using the Air-Fry function, distribute the food evenly in the wire basket to allow air to circulate freely. If drips or crumbs can fall through (e.g., breaded meat or cheese), place the baking tray in the bottom rack. |
Rotisserie | Grilling: All items that are large enough and do not fall apart during cooking (e.g., meat, vegetables, shish kebab skewers, sausages). |
Pizza Stone | The pizza stone is placed on the grill rack for use. Use this accessory for pizza and similar dishes baked on a yeast dough base. Note: Depending on the desired texture of the pizza base, it may be advisable to preheat the pizza stone. The Pizza program emits an audible signal when the oven reaches the set temperature. |
For special applications, programs with suitable presets are offered (see: 'Oven Functions and Preset Programs').
It is best to remove hot accessories using the accompanying handles. This makes handling easier and more hygienic, and you avoid burns on hot oven parts or accessories and your food.
The small handle hooks onto the edge of the insert (baking tray, grill rack, wire basket). Place the bracket for the rotisserie with the two bent ends into the designated grooves in the rotisserie from below.
CAUTION: You can only move the rotisserie safely with the bracket. Do not attempt to pull other accessories out of the oven with it. The grill rack, baking tray, and wire basket may fall or tip over. To avoid damage and injury from hot parts, ensure the handles are properly hooked and handle with care. Hold the handle horizontally so that the accessories and food do not slip. We recommend using oven mitts in all cases.
Tips for Best Results
Due to the oven's design and the convection functions (Air-Fry and normal), the oven operates more efficiently than a standard oven. This allows your food to be cooked in less time and/or at lower temperatures. Therefore, check the cooking status of your food promptly to avoid missing the right time to switch off. Adjust the temperature as needed (see: 'Operation / Monitoring the Cooking Process and Adjusting Settings').
- The Design Oven Air Fry & Pizza heats the oven cavity significantly faster than a normal oven, despite its lower power consumption: starting at 20°C, the oven reaches 100°C in about 2 minutes and 200°C in about 5 minutes with the Air-Fry function. This makes preheating the oven, as often required in recipes, unnecessary in almost all cases. However, when setting the cooking time, please consider the time it takes for the oven to reach the set temperature.
- Depending on the type of food, cooking times can be significantly shorter and/or temperatures lower than you are used to from your kitchen oven. Especially during your first attempts, it is better to check the cooking status too early rather than too late!
- At high temperatures, you should aim for at least 10-20°C below the recommended values. Generally: higher temperatures lead to stronger browning on the outside with lower core temperatures; lower temperatures should be chosen when the food should be cooked through and remain tender on the outside and/or not brown too much (e.g., cakes, gratins, or chicken breast).
- The oven responds very quickly to changes in settings. After a short time (a few seconds), the oven reaches the new conditions when you increase the temperature. Cooling down also happens much faster than you are used to from your kitchen oven due to the compact oven cavity. This allows for better control over the texture of your food. For example, you can easily re-brown cakes, gratins, and meat by briefly increasing the temperature or switching to 'top heat only'. Depending on the food and its current cooking status, a few minutes may be sufficient. Keep an eye on the browning process to avoid burning the food!
- If your recipe requires preheated cookware (e.g., roasting pan or Roman pot), do not forget to place the food in the oven after only 5-10 minutes to avoid unnecessary energy loss.
- A crispy crust can be achieved with many foods using the Air-Fry function.
- When cooking your food in the oven, you do not need additional fat. However, if you coat the food with a little oil, you will often achieve a more even crust. This is especially true when using the Air-Fry function. You can apply the oil with a pastry brush or put some oil in a bowl and toss the food in it.
- Always ensure that the food and accessories (e.g., skewer sticks, aluminum foil) remain at least 3 cm (the width of a teaspoon) away from the heating elements. If you have set high temperatures (above 180 °C), you should maintain an even greater distance.
- At high temperatures, the cooking process is accelerated in areas where the food is very close to the heating elements, even with convection. You can influence the cooking results more significantly than with conventional ovens by choosing a different rack (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / 3 Racks in the Oven Cavity'). In general, results are more even when the food is further away from the heating elements.
- During prolonged storage, food loses moisture and therefore browns faster or even chars. Some fruits and vegetables can be soaked in water for about 30 minutes before cooking to compensate for moisture loss. If your recipe allows, add a little lemon juice to the water. Other foods (e.g., meat, fish) can also be brushed with a little oil.
- Foods treated with a sugar- or protein-rich seasoning paste or marinade brown very quickly at high temperatures. In this case, you should set the temperature significantly lower and increase the cooking time accordingly. Monitor the cooking process carefully.
- Due to the heat radiation from the internal heating elements, convection operation of the oven is always beneficial. Therefore, the convection in the oven cannot be completely switched off. Adjust the settings for your dishes accordingly. In many cases, you should choose a set temperature 20-30°C lower than you are used to when baking without convection.
- If food drips during cooking (e.g., when using the grill rack, wire basket, or rotisserie), you should slide the baking tray into the bottom rack to protect the heating elements and crumb tray. The baking tray is easy to clean due to its non-stick coating (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). However, you can also cover the baking tray with baking paper or aluminum foil.
Special Instructions for Cooking Meat
- If you want to cook meat in a roasting pan, you should preheat the roasting pan in the oven before placing the meat in it. This seals the pores of the meat, keeping it juicier. Alternatively, you can briefly sear the meat on all sides in a pan.
- The meat should reach room temperature before you put it in the oven. The required cooking time for a piece of meat depends on its thickness, type of meat (e.g., fillet or roast), and the chosen oven temperature. You can use a suitable meat thermometer to determine the temperature in the center of the meat (core temperature). Always insert the meat thermometer into the thickest part up to the center. The optimal core temperature is between 65 °C (rare) and 75 °C (well-done). Poultry should reach a core temperature of 85 °C.
- Meat loses more weight the higher the oven temperature is. For normal convection, 130°C is usually sufficient.
- If the meat has not yet formed a crust, even though the desired core temperature has been reached, you can set the oven temperature to 175-200 °C (upper and lower heat) for a short time (a few minutes!) to crisp it up. Monitor the process to avoid burning the meat. You can also use the Air-Fry function for this.
- After roasting, you can keep meat warm at 70 °C for 25-45 minutes.
Suitable Cookware
You can use cookware made of metal (aluminum, stainless steel), porcelain, ovenproof glass, and stoneware (casserole dishes) in your oven. However, note that cookware may be coated with a glaze or coating that is not suitable for very high temperatures. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions for your cookware.
WARNING: Do not use containers that may burst, melt, or deform during cooking in the oven to avoid hazards from splinters, spilled liquids, and/or harmful substances.
IMPORTANT: You may be able to use a small Roman pot (clay pot) in the oven. However, we advise that the Roman pot could crack due to the oven's very rapid heating process. To avoid this, you must begin heating the Roman pot at low temperatures and gradually increase to the desired temperature. Maintain the greatest possible distance from the heating elements. Slide the baking tray and grill rack together into the bottom rack of the oven to protect the Roman pot from direct heat radiation from the lower heating elements. Then place the Roman pot on the grill rack.
Grilling with the Rotisserie
You can use the rotisserie for all foods of suitable size that can be securely fixed on the rotisserie, do not fall apart during cooking, and do not come too close to the heating elements (e.g., chicken legs).
- If you want to use the rotor drive for the rotisserie, you must select one of the rotor programs: Air-Fry or normal convection. You can set the temperature and cooking time for these programs as desired.
- Your food must not come too close to the heating elements at any time: minimum distance approx. 3 cm (width of a teaspoon). Secure loose parts (e.g., legs, wings) firmly to the rotisserie so that they do not touch the heating elements when the rotisserie rotates (see: 'Operation / Preparing the Rotisserie').
- For fastening, use temperature-resistant and untreated cords made of natural fibers (e.g., hemp) or temperature-resistant, food-safe skewers and clips (e.g., made of metal or wood).
- If you need to work at high temperatures, you should choose a slightly lower temperature than specified in recipes for conventional ovens. Remember that food can also loosen during the cooking process. Therefore, monitor the cooking process carefully.
- If you want the crust to become crispier when the desired core temperature of your food is reached, simply increase the temperature for a short time (a few minutes at the end of the cooking time) (see: 'Operation / Monitoring the Cooking Process and Adjusting Settings').
Preparing the Rotisserie
CAUTION: The piece you are cooking on the rotisserie should not be longer than 15 cm and not thicker than 10 cm. It should be possible to clamp it securely with the rotisserie clips and should not protrude more than 4-5 cm beyond the rotisserie at any point, otherwise it may come too close to the heating elements. It must not detach from the rotisserie, even partially, during the cooking process. Also note that some foods may fall apart during cooking (e.g., fish). These foods are generally not suitable for cooking with the rotisserie.
IMPORTANT: For your safety, both rotor programs (Air-Fry and normal convection) operate only with top heat, so that drips and food particles do not char on the lower heating elements and catch fire. You should still insert the baking tray into the bottom rack to catch drips and crumbs.
Fastening Food to the Rotisserie
IMPORTANT: Use only stainless steel skewers and clips and/or food-safe, heat-resistant, natural cords (e.g., for roulades). When fastening food to the rotisserie, remember that food may lose firmness, shrink, or expand during the cooking process.
- If necessary, loosen the two clips on the rotisserie and remove one clip from the spit. The clips can be moved easily by loosening the screws on the clip holder (turn counterclockwise).
- Insert the rotisserie through the food item. Narrow, elongated pieces (e.g., chicken legs) can be secured to the rotisserie with cooking cords or skewers. The rotisserie should be as close to the center of the pieces as possible. At no point should the food protrude more than 6-7 cm beyond the axis of the rotisserie. There should be enough space at each end of the rotisserie to fasten the food with the supplied clips. These clips ensure that your food rotates with the rotisserie when the rotor is running.
- Insert the clips with the tips facing inward onto the rotisserie and clamp the food as centrally as possible. The food should no longer rotate on the rotisserie or detach from it. However, do not use force to avoid damaging the clips. Tighten the screws on the clips clockwise to fix the clips on the rotisserie.
- Tie loose parts (e.g., legs, wings) securely with suitable cords. Alternatively, you can secure the parts with clips or skewers for shish kebabs or roulades.
- Turn the rotisserie by hand to ensure that all food parts are securely fastened and do not protrude too far.
Inserting the Rotisserie into the Oven
Note: The rotisserie has 3 grooves directly at the ends: 2 on the left side and 1 on the right. The wider grooves (at both ends) are for inserting the bracket, which you use to insert and remove the rotisserie from the oven after cooking.
- Insert the rotisserie into the oven cavity at a slight angle. Guide the left side (2 grooves) of the rotisserie along the recess above the top rack while inserting the right side into the rotor drive opening.
- Then, place the left side of the rotisserie into the notch in the center of the rotisserie mount and ensure that the rotisserie does not slip off the mount.
Selecting the Program
You can recognize the selected program by the flashing symbol. When you turn on the appliance, the Fry program () ) is always selected. The preset temperature for the currently selected program appears on the display (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / Oven Functions and Preset Programs').
- If necessary, turn the program dial (left) if you want to select a different program. Orient yourself by the functions for top heat and bottom heat (recognizable by the symbols) and convection (normal or Air-Fry). The area with the Air-Fry programs is marked accordingly below the symbols. The other programs operate with normal convection.
- You can immediately start the selected program without changes using the Start/Pause button. Alternatively, first set the temperature and cooking time (see below).
Checking and Changing Settings
Numerous useful tips for setting temperature and cooking time can be found in the chapter 'Tips for Best Results'.
Note: If the oven is inactive for 3 minutes (no program running or program paused) and you do not make any input during this time, the oven will switch back to standby mode and your settings will be lost (see: 'Features of Your New Oven').
Note: When setting the temperature and cooking time with the setting dial (right), you can go beyond the respective minimum or maximum value to switch directly between maximum and minimum.
- Press the center of the program dial (left). The selected program symbol illuminates continuously. All other program symbols dim. The oven's control system releases the settings for temperature and cooking time.
- Turn the setting dial (right) to set the temperature. You can select values between 55 °C and 200 °C (Air-Fry programs) or 220 °C (normal convection). The only exception is the Defrost program. For this program, the temperature is fixed at 60°C.
IMPORTANT: If you press and hold the center of the program dial for approximately 5 seconds while the temperature is displayed, the temperature unit will switch between °C and °F. The corresponding symbol appears to the right of the temperature display. Ensure that the temperature unit displayed is the one used in your recipe.
- Briefly press the center of the setting dial. The cooking time appears on the display.
- Turn the setting dial to set the cooking time.
Note: If you have selected a Toast program, the 'min' entry on the display will disappear, and the browning time will be set in seconds, as toasted bread browns in just a few seconds.
Starting the Program
WARNING: Please note that the exterior sides of the oven also become hot during operation. Only touch the appliance at the control elements (door handle and console) during operation and for some time afterward. Use oven mitts and the supplied handles when handling the hot oven.
Note: To insert the rotisserie, you should pause the oven program in any case, as the rotor continues to run when the oven door is opened.
- Start the oven with the Start/Pause button ▶️||. The oven light turns on, the operation symbol on the console rotates, and the oven immediately begins to heat. Once the oven program has started, you can no longer change the program settings. To do this, you must pause the program (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / Pause Function'). The Light button, Keypad Lock, On/Off button, and Start/Pause button remain freely accessible. If necessary, you can lock the buttons (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / Using the Keypad Lock').
- If you have preheated the oven, place the food in the oven or insert the rotisserie into the oven within a maximum of 5 minutes (see: 'Preparing the Rotisserie').
- Depending on the selected program, the oven emits additional audible signals during program execution: The Pizza program signals when the set temperature is reached and automatically pauses the program for approximately 3 minutes, allowing you to insert the pizza. The Fry program signals halfway through the cooking time. This is the best moment to turn your food.
- If necessary, check the condition of your food promptly during the cooking process. For this, you should pause the running program to switch off the heating elements and convection fan for a while. Depending on the results already achieved, you can then adjust the settings accordingly (see: 'Monitoring the Cooking Process and Adjusting Settings').
- When the set cooking time has elapsed, the oven will in any case emit a series of tones, the program will automatically end, and the oven will switch off the heating elements. The display will show 'End'. After approximately 3 minutes without input, the oven will automatically return to standby mode, and the console will darken.
Monitoring the Cooking Process and Adjusting Settings
Especially during your first attempts with the oven, it is important to check the condition of your food promptly. To do this, you should pause the program using the Pause function so that the heating elements and convection fan remain switched off when the oven door is open (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / Pause Function').
If the food does not reach the desired consistency with the selected settings, you can adjust the settings accordingly while the program is paused. Use this option for the following adjustments:
- Adjust the remaining cooking time;
- Increase the temperature for a short time to achieve a crispy crust;
- Lower the temperature to reach the required core temperature of the food without burning the crust.
Note: If you want to change the setting for upper and lower heat or convection, you must select a different program. In this case, the oven will automatically cancel the paused program. The paused program will also be canceled if you do not make any input for more than 3 minutes.
- To pause the oven program, press the Start/Pause button ▶️||. The cooking time is paused, and the heating elements and convection fan are switched off. All controls on the console are available again.
- Check your food and make the necessary adjustments (see: 'Checking and Changing Settings').
- If you want the oven to continue working, please remember to restart the paused oven program in a timely manner. Press the Start/Pause button ▶️||. Once the program is running again, you can no longer change the settings.
- If you want to completely end/cancel the paused program, press the On/Off button. The oven returns to standby mode, and the console darkens. After that, there is no way to resume the oven program from the last reached point.
After Baking
CAUTION: Only place hot food and/or hot accessories on surfaces that are resistant to heat, grease, and moisture. Have a suitable base ready (e.g., heat-resistant tray, large porcelain plate, or coaster).
Note: You may want to keep the oven on before removing the food, as the oven light can be helpful when handling items inside the oven.
- Have a suitable base ready. Put on oven mitts. Do not stand too close to the oven and carefully open the oven door.
- Baking tray, grill rack, or wire basket: Hook the smaller of the two handles onto the edge of the accessory. Ensure that the accessory does not slip out of the handle. Carefully pull out the accessory. When using heavy containers (e.g., roasting pans, stoneware baking dishes for gratins or cakes), additionally support the accessory with your other hand. Place the accessory with the food on the prepared base.
- Rotisserie: Hook the bracket holder on both sides into the grooves of the rotisserie and lift the rotisserie on the left side so that you can pull this side forward into the recess above the top rack. The right side will automatically come out of the rotor drive.
Note: When a program has finished, all values are reset to the factory presets. However, you can immediately reconfigure the oven for further food items.
- If you no longer intend to use the oven, press the On/Off button to switch off the oven (console darkens). Unplug the power cord from the socket.
- Let the oven cool down with the oven door open (at least 20 minutes). Clean the oven and the crumb tray, as well as all used accessories, after each use to prevent food residues from burning onto the surfaces and causing smoke or fire during the next use (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
IMPORTANT: Always unplug the power cord from the socket when you are no longer using the oven or leaving it unattended.
Troubleshooting
Here you can find solutions if problems arise during operation.

You cannot set the desired temperature or the set temperature is not maintained. | The desired temperature is not within the possible temperature range of the selected program. | The Air-Fry programs reach a maximum of 200°C. The Defrost program is fixed at 60°C. Select a suitable program if necessary. Please note that for this oven, you should often choose a significantly lower temperature than you are used to. |
The wrong temperature unit is selected. | Ensure that the correct temperature unit appears to the right of the set temperature on the display. If necessary, press and hold the center of the setting dial (right) for approximately 5 seconds to switch between °C and °F. | |
You cannot switch off the convection. | The oven only offers two convection settings: Air-Fry (intensive) and normal. | Adjust the settings for convection operation. In most cases, set the temperature 20-30°C lower (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). |
Smoke rises in the oven cavity during the heating phase. | Initial heating: The cleaning agent on the heating elements evaporates during the first heating phase. | If smoke development only occurs during the first heating, this is completely normal. The cleaning agent is harmless. Ensure good ventilation and clean the oven cavity after the first heating (see: 'First-Time Use'). |
Food residues are on the heating elements. | Food residues on the heating elements can catch fire! Immediately switch off the appliance, unplug the power cord from the socket, and let the oven cool down. Clean the oven cavity and especially the heating elements (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). Then heat the oven to maximum temperature and check if the problem recurs. | |
Food is burnt in some areas, although you have set the correct cooking time and temperature. | The food is possibly too close to the heating elements AND/OR the food is too large for the oven. | Ensure that there is always a clearance of at least 3 cm to the heating elements. - When cooking at very high temperatures, choose a larger clearance (a different rack). Place the food in the center of the oven cavity. - Cut large pieces into smaller pieces and cook in portions if necessary. - Ensure you have selected the correct combination of heating elements (see: 'Features of Your New Oven / Separately Selectable Upper and Lower Heat'). It might help to switch from the Air-Fry function to normal convection. - In the lower area of the oven, you achieve better heat distribution by additionally sliding the baking tray into the bottom rack. |
The food in the oven is too close to one of the heating elements AND/OR food has fallen/dripped onto the lower heating elements during cooking and is burning. | Cooking time and/or temperature is set too high. | Immediately switch off the appliance, unplug the power cord from the socket, and wait for the oven to cool down. Then clean the oven (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). - Before switching on, ensure that the food has at least 3 cm clearance (width of a teaspoon) to the heating elements throughout the entire cooking process. - If food drips or crumbs fall through during cooking, you should additionally slide the baking tray into the bottom rack (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). Your new oven performs many tasks significantly faster at lower temperatures than conventional large ovens. Furthermore, the set temperature is reached within a few minutes (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). Monitor the cooking process particularly carefully during your first attempts. Check the cooking status of your food promptly (after half the cooking time). - Choose a lower temperature to reach the desired core temperature before the crust burns. |
A heating element is damaged or overheated. | The food is possibly too close to the heating elements AND/OR the food is too large for the oven. | Immediately switch off the appliance and unplug the power cord from the socket. Check if the air circulation in the oven cavity is obstructed by large items, aluminum foil, or baking paper. Check if baking dishes or aluminum foil are too close to any heating elements. A minimum clearance of 3 cm is required. If in doubt, contact GASTROBACK Customer Service, Tel: 04165/2225-0 or by email: info@gastroback.de. Do not use the oven anymore if malfunctions occur. |

The light in the oven cavity remains dark even during operation. | You have switched off the oven light. | You can switch the oven light on or off as desired with the Light button ◉. If the keypad lock is activated, first press and hold the Lock symbol ? until a beep is heard, then press the Light button. |
The oven has switched to standby mode. The oven light is also switched off. | Switch the oven back on with the On/Off button if necessary, then press the Light button. | |
You have replaced the oven light bulb, but the bulb has burned out again after a very short time. | The bulb is defective. The inserted bulb is not suitable for use in ovens. | Replace the bulb. Use the correct special bulb for high temperatures (see: 'Replacing the Oven Light'). If you are unsure, take the appliance to your dealer. Do not use normal light bulbs for the oven light! Special bulbs adapted for use at high temperatures are required. Contact GASTROBACK Customer Service if necessary. |
The bulb's glass bulb was dirty. | Grease from fingerprints or other contaminants burns into the glass bulb during oven use and causes overheating. Do not touch the new bulb's glass bulb with your fingers. When installing the new bulb, hold the glass bulb with a piece of clean cloth (e.g., kitchen towel). | |
The oven switches off, although the cooking time has not fully elapsed. | You have activated the pause function and then not restarted the oven. | If you pause the oven program with the Start/Pause button ▶️||, the oven waits for approximately 3 minutes after the last operation step and then completely cancels the program if you have not resumed it during this time. This ensures that the oven does not remain switched on unnecessarily if you forget to switch it off. |
Condensation and/or steam forms on the oven door glass, and/or steam escapes. | Depending on the food in the oven, large amounts of steam can be generated during operation, which condenses on cooler appliance parts. | This is completely normal. You do not need to do anything. The glass will clear on its own after a few minutes. |

The food is burnt in some areas, although you have set the correct cooking time and temperature. |
Cakes or pastries collapse after baking. | You have opened the oven door during baking or did not wait long enough after baking before opening the oven door. | Please remember that due to its small size, the oven cavity cools down much faster when the oven door is opened compared to a large oven. You may need to let delicate baked goods cool down with the oven door closed. |
The temperature is set too high. | In most cases, you should choose a temperature slightly lower than you are used to from your kitchen oven. Otherwise, the food will brown too quickly on the surface while still being undercooked inside, causing it to collapse. | Cook the food at lower temperatures. Choose a longer cooking time if necessary. Brush your food with some cooking oil before cooking. |
You have taken over the cooking time from a conventional oven (kitchen stove). | The Design Oven Air Fry & Pizza cooks your food significantly faster than a conventional oven in many cases. Check the cooking status promptly (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). | |
The condition of your food varied significantly. | Dry or highly sugary or protein-rich foods brown and burn significantly faster than fresh, very moist, or fatty foods. Prepare the food accordingly for the cooking process (see: 'Tips for Best Results'). |
Care and Cleaning
WARNING: Always ensure that the appliance and its accessories are inaccessible to children under 8 years of age! Always switch the appliance to standby mode first (console darkens, only the On/Off button flashes), unplug the power cord from the socket, and wait for the appliance to cool down completely before moving and/or cleaning it.
WARNING: Food residues in the oven cavity can catch fire during oven operation! Always keep the oven cavity clean. Dry the components thoroughly after cleaning. Protect the appliance from splashing water. This applies particularly to the oven cavity and the ventilation slots in the housing. Never allow liquids to drip over or into the appliance, the oven door, or the power cord, or place or immerse these components in liquids to avoid hazards from electricity and damage to the appliance.
CAUTION: Work carefully to avoid damaging the oven door hinges, the oven door window, the heating elements, and the temperature sensor. Never scratch, scrape, or cut the surfaces of the appliance or accessories. The oven cavity and baking tray are coated with a non-stick coating. Never use hard or sharp-edged objects or aggressive chemicals (e.g., bleach, oven cleaner, metal pot scrubber) to clean the appliance or its components to avoid damaging the surfaces. Never use sharp-edged or hard objects for cleaning the surfaces. This also applies to cleaning the bare metal parts (e.g., grill rack, rotisserie, wire basket, handles). Never use force.
Never place the appliance in the dishwasher! The pizza stone, baking tray, handle, and bracket holder are also not dishwasher safe.
- Ensure the oven is switched OFF (standby mode, only the On/Off button flashes), unplug the power cord from the socket, and wait with the oven door open for the oven to cool down (approx. 20 minutes).
- Remove all movable parts from the oven cavity (inserts, pizza stone, rotisserie, crumb tray). Clean these parts and the used handle in warm soapy water with a soft sponge. For stubborn food residues, it is best to soak them in warm soapy water for approx. 10 minutes and then remove them with a nylon pot scrubber.
Note: The crumb tray, rotisserie, wire basket, and grill rack can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- Clean the oven door glass inside and out with a little soapy water and a soft sponge. Stubborn residues can be removed with a nylon pot scrubber.
- The interior surfaces of the oven cavity can be cleaned with a damp cloth or a soft sponge with a little soapy water. Do not let any liquids drip into the oven cavity.
- If necessary, wipe the exterior surfaces of the appliance and the power cord with a soft, damp cloth. If necessary, you can use a little soapy water for this. Ensure that no liquids drip into the ventilation slots in the housing, over the console, or onto the power cord.
- Wipe all surfaces again. Dampen a soft cloth with clean water. Then dry the surfaces with a dry cloth.
- Allow the appliance and all components to air dry for at least 1/2 hour after cleaning. Leave the oven door open.
- Insert the crumb tray into the oven cavity at the bottom, under the lower heating elements, with the curved edge facing the rear of the oven.
Replacing the Oven Light Bulb
The oven light bulb is located in the upper right part of the oven cavity. If the oven light does not respond to the Light button, even though the light symbol illuminates, the oven light bulb may be burned out. You can replace the bulb yourself with a few simple steps. If you are unsure, have the bulb replaced by an electrician who will also select the required bulb: G9 base, 25 W.
WARNING: Never unscrew the glass cover of the oven light while the oven is still connected to the power supply. Always unplug the power cord first and let the oven cool down completely with the oven door open. Never use normal light bulbs for the oven! A special type of bulb is required due to the high temperatures. Contact GASTROBACK Customer Service if necessary.
WARNING: The glass bulbs of light bulbs can burst, especially when the bulb burns out! Ensure the glass bulb is intact before removing the light source to avoid injury. If necessary, protect your hands with gloves. If in doubt, contact an authorized service center.
- Switch off the oven (only the On/Off button flashes), unplug the power cord from the socket, and let the oven cool down completely with the oven door open.
- Unscrew the hemispherical glass cover of the oven light counterclockwise. Be careful not to let the glass cover fall onto the heating element below.
WARNING: Handle the glass cover with care. The glass cover must not have any cracks or chipped edges. Otherwise, glass splinters may detach during oven operation due to temperature fluctuations, enter your food, and cause serious injury if accidentally swallowed. Replace the glass cover with an original spare part if it is damaged. Contact GASTROBACK Customer Service.
Note: This is a good opportunity to thoroughly clean the glass cover and remove any burnt-on grease and streaks. You can soak the glass cover in warm soapy water and then clean it with a soft sponge. Then dry the glass cover thoroughly and let it air dry completely.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT attempt to unscrew the light bulb; it is only plugged in! Do not touch the glass bulb of the new light bulb with your hand. Fingerprints burn into the glass during oven use and blacken it. This not only reduces brightness but can also cause the glass bulb to burst.
- Ensure that the glass bulb of the old light source is intact and stable to avoid injury. Pull the light bulb out of the socket (do not twist!).
- Hold the new light bulb by the glass bulb with a small, clean cloth, keeping the flat connection area perpendicular. Carefully insert the light bulb into the socket in the oven cavity.
- Ensure that the glass cover is completely intact and dry. The glass must not have any splinters, cracks, or chipped edges.
- Screw the glass cover clockwise onto the oven light socket. The glass cover must be screwed on hand-tight, as it may loosen from the holder due to temperature fluctuations. However, do not use tools for screwing!
The oven light should then be operational again. If not, contact GASTROBACK Customer Service.
